Romans 7:1-13

1Or are ye ignorantG50, brethren (for I speakG2980 to menG444 who knowG1097 the lawG3551), that the lawG3551 hath dominion over a manG444 for soG3745 long timeG5550 as he liveth? 2For the womanG1135 that hath a husbandG435 is boundG1210 by lawG3551 to the husbandG435 while he liveth; but if the husbandG435 dieG599, she is discharged from the lawG3551 of the husbandG435. 3So thenG3767 if, while the husbandG435 liveth, she beG1510 joined to another manG435, she shall beG1510 called an adulteressG3428: but if the husbandG435 dieG599, she isG1510 freeG1658 from the lawG3551, so that she isG1510 no adulteressG3428, though she beG1510 joined to another manG435. 4Wherefore, my brethren, ye alsoG2532 were made deadG3498 to the lawG3551 through the bodyG4983 of ChristG5547; that ye should be joined to another, evenG2532 to him who was raisedG1453 from the deadG3498, that we might bring forth fruitG2592 unto GodG2316. 5For whenG3753 we wereG1510 in the fleshG4561, the sinful passionsG3804, which wereG1510 through the lawG3551, wrought in our membersG3196 to bring forth fruitG2592 unto deathG2288. 6But nowG1161 we have been discharged from the lawG3551, having diedG599 to that wherein we were held; so that we serveG1398 in newnessG2538 of the spiritG4151, and not in oldness of the letterG1121.

7What shall we sayG3004 thenG3767? Is the lawG3551 sinG266? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not knownG1097 sinG266, except through the lawG3551: for I had not knownG1097 coveting, except the lawG3551 had saidG3004, Thou shalt not covetG1937: 8but sinG266, finding occasionG874, wrought in me through the commandmentG1785 all manner of coveting: for apartG5565 from the lawG3551 sinG266 is deadG3498. 9And I was aliveG2198 apartG5565 from the lawG3551 onceG4218: but when the commandmentG1785 cameG2064, sinG266 revived, and I died; 10and the commandmentG1785, which was unto lifeG2222, this I foundG2147 to be unto deathG2288: 11for sinG266, finding occasionG874, through the commandmentG1785 beguiled me, and through it slew me. 12So that the lawG3551 is holyG40, and the commandmentG1785 holyG40, and righteousG1342, and goodG18. 13Did thenG3767 that which is goodG18 becomeG1096 deathG2288 unto me? God forbid. But sinG266, that it might be shown to be sinG266, by working deathG2288 to me through that which is goodG18;—that through the commandmentG1785 sinG266 might becomeG1096 exceeding sinfulG268.
