Hebrews 7
American Standard Version
1For this MelchizedekG3198, kingG935 of SalemG4532, priestG2409 of GodG2316 MostG5310 HighG5310, who met AbrahamG11 returningG5290 from the slaughter of the kingsG935 and blessedG2127 him, 2to whom alsoG2532 AbrahamG11 divided a tenth part of all (beingG1510 firstG4413, by interpretation, KingG935 of righteousnessG1343, and then alsoG2532 KingG935 of SalemG4532, which isG1510, KingG935 of peaceG1515; 3without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of daysG2250 nor endG5056 of lifeG2222, but made like unto the SonG5207 of GodG2316), abideth a priestG2409 continually.
4NowG1161 consider howG4080 great this manG3778 was, unto whom AbrahamG11, the patriarchG3966, gaveG1325 a tenth out of the chief spoils. 5And they indeed of the sonsG5207 of LeviG3017 that receiveG2983 the priest’s office have commandmentG1785 to takeG2983 tithes of the peopleG2992 accordingG2596 to the lawG3551, that isG1510, of their brethren, though these have comeG1831 out of the loinsG3751 of AbrahamG11: 6but he whose genealogy is not counted from them hath taken tithes of AbrahamG11, and hath blessedG2127 him that hath the promisesG1860. 7But without any dispute the less is blessedG2127 of the better. 8And hereG5602 menG444 that dieG599 receiveG2983 tithes; but there one, of whom it is witnessedG3140 that he liveth. 9And, so to sayG3004, through AbrahamG11 evenG2532 Levi, who receiveth tithes, hath paid tithes; 10for he wasG1510 yetG2089 in the loinsG3751 of his fatherG3962, whenG3753 MelchizedekG3198 met him.
11Now if there wasG1510 perfection through the Levitical priesthoodG2420 (for under it hath the peopleG2992 received the law), what further needG5532 wasG1510 there that another priestG2409 should ariseG450 after the orderG5010 of MelchizedekG3198, and not beG1510 reckoned after the orderG5010 of AaronG2? 12For the priesthoodG2420 being changed, there is made of necessityG318 a change alsoG2532 of the lawG3551. 13For he of whom these thingsG3778 are saidG3004 belongeth to another tribeG5443, from which no manG3778 hath given attendance at the altarG2379. 14For it is evidentG4271 that our LordG2962 hath sprung out of JudahG2455; as to which tribeG5443 MosesG3475 spake nothing concerningG4012 priestsG2409. 15And what we say isG1510 yet moreG2089 abundantly evident, if after the likeness of MelchizedekG3198 there ariseth another priestG2409, 16who hath been made, not after the lawG3551 of a carnal commandmentG1785, but after the powerG1411 of an endless lifeG2222: 17for it is witnessedG3140 of him,
18For there is a disannulling of a foregoing commandmentG1785 because of its weaknessG772 and unprofitableness 19(for the lawG3551 madeG5048 nothing perfectG5048), and a bringing in thereupon of a better hopeG1680, through which we drawG1448 nigh unto GodG2316. 20And inasmuch as it isG1510 not without the taking of an oathG3728 21(for they indeed have been made priestsG2409 without an oathG3728; but he with an oathG3728 by him that saith of him,
22by so muchG5118 alsoG2532 hath JesusG2424 becomeG1096 the surety of a better covenantG1242. 23And they indeed have beenG1510 made priestsG2409 manyG4183 in number, because that by deathG2288 they areG1510 hinderedG2967 from continuingG3887: 24but he, because he abideth for ever, hath his priesthoodG2420 unchangeable. 25Wherefore alsoG2532 he is ableG1410 to saveG4982 to the uttermost them that drawG4334 near unto GodG2316 through him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26For such a highG749 priestG749 becameG1096 us, holyG3741, guileless, undefiledG283, separatedG5563 from sinnersG268, and made higher than the heavensG3772; 27who needeth not daily, like those highG749 priestsG749, to offerG4374 up sacrificesG2378, first for his ownG2398 sinsG266, and thenG1899 for the sinsG266 of the peopleG2992: for this he did onceG2178 for all, when he offeredG4374 up himself. 28For the lawG3551 appointeth menG444 highG749 priestsG749, having infirmityG769; but the wordG3056 of the oathG3728, which was after the lawG3551, appointeth a SonG5207, perfectedG5048 for evermore.
