Deuteronomy 4:5-31
5Behold, I have taughtH3925 you statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941, even as Jehovah my GodH430 commandedH6680 me, that ye should do soH3651 in the midstH7130 of the landH776 whither ye goH935 in to possessH3423 it. 6KeepH8104 therefore and do them; for this is your wisdomH2451 and your understandingH995 in the sight of the peoplesH5971, that shall hearH8085 all these statutesH2706, and sayH559, Surely this greatH1419 nationH1471 is a wiseH2450 and understandingH995 peopleH5971. 7For what greatH1419 nationH1471 is there, that hath a godH430 so nigh unto them, as Jehovah our GodH430 is whensoever we callH7121 upon him? 8And what greatH1419 nationH1471 is there, that hath statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941 so righteousH6662 as all this lawH8451, which I setH5414 before you this dayH3117?
9OnlyH7535 take heedH8104 to thyself, and keepH8104 thy soulH5315 diligently, lestH6435 thou forgetH7911 the thingsH1697 which thine eyesH5869 sawH7200, and lestH6435 they departH5493 from thy heartH3824 all the daysH3117 of thy lifeH5315; but makeH3045 them knownH3045 unto thy children and thy children’s children; 10the dayH3117 that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy GodH430 in HorebH2722, when Jehovah saidH559 unto me, AssembleH6950 me the peopleH5971, and I will makeH8085 them hearH8085 my wordsH1697, that they may learnH3925 to fearH3372 me all the daysH3117 that they live upon the earthH127, and that they may teachH3925 their children. 11And ye came near and stoodH5975 under the mountainH2022; and the mountainH2022 burnedH1197 with fireH784 unto the heartH3820 of heavenH8064, with darknessH2822, cloudH6051, and thickH6205 darknessH2822. 12And Jehovah spake unto you out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784: ye heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of wordsH1697, but ye sawH7200 no formH8544; only ye heardH8085 a voiceH6963. 13And he declaredH5046 unto you his covenantH1285, which he commandedH6680 you to perform, even the tenH6235 commandments; and he wroteH3789 them upon twoH8147 tables of stoneH68. 14And Jehovah commandedH6680 me at that timeH6256 to teachH3925 you statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941, that ye might do them in the landH776 whither ye go over to possessH3423 it.
15TakeH8104 ye therefore good heedH8104 unto yourselves; for ye sawH7200 no manner of formH8544 on the dayH3117 that Jehovah spake unto you in HorebH2722 out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784; 16lestH6435 ye corruptH7843 yourselves, and makeH6213 you a graven imageH6459 in the formH8544 of any figure, the likenessH8403 of maleH2145 or femaleH5347, 17the likenessH8403 of any beast that is on the earthH776, the likenessH8403 of any wingedH3671 birdH6833 that flieth in the heavensH8064, 18the likenessH8403 of anything that creepeth on the groundH776, the likenessH8403 of any fishH1710 that is in the waterH4325 under the earthH776; 19and lestH6435 thou liftH5375 up thine eyesH5869 unto heavenH8064, and whenH834 thou seest the sunH8121 and the moonH3394 and the starsH3556, even all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, thou be drawn awayH5375 and worship them, and serveH5647 them, which Jehovah thy GodH430 hath allotted unto all the peoplesH5971 under the whole heavenH8064. 20But Jehovah hath takenH3947 you, and broughtH3318 you forthH3318 out of the ironH1270 furnaceH3564, out of EgyptH4714, to beH1961 unto him a peopleH5971 of inheritanceH5159, as at this dayH3117. 21Furthermore Jehovah was angryH599 with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not goH935 over the JordanH3383, and that I should not goH935 in unto that goodH2896 landH776, which Jehovah thy GodH430 giveth thee for an inheritanceH5159: 22but I must dieH4191 in this landH776, I must not go over the JordanH3383; but ye shall go over, and possessH3423 that goodH2896 landH776. 23TakeH8104 heedH8104 unto yourselves, lestH6435 ye forgetH7911 the covenantH1285 of Jehovah your GodH430, which he madeH6213 with you, and makeH6213 you a graven imageH6459 in the formH8544 of anything which Jehovah thy GodH430 hath forbidden thee. 24For Jehovah thy GodH430 is a devouringH398 fireH784, a jealousH7067 GodH430.
25When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have been long in the landH776, and shall corruptH7843 yourselves, and makeH6213 a graven imageH6459 in the formH8544 of anything, and shall do that which is evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah thy GodH430, to provokeH3707 him to angerH3707; 26I call heavenH8064 and earthH776 to witness against you this dayH3117, that ye shall soon utterly perishH6 from off the landH776 whereunto ye go over the JordanH3383 to possessH3423 it; ye shall not prolongH748 your daysH3117 upon it, but shall utterly be destroyedH8045. 27And Jehovah will scatterH6327 you among the peoplesH5971, and ye shall be leftH7604 few in numberH4557 among the nationsH1471, whither Jehovah shall lead you awayH5090. 28And there ye shall serveH5647 godsH430, the workH4639 of men’sH120 handsH3027, woodH6086 and stoneH68, which neither seeH7200, nor hearH8085, nor eatH398, nor smellH7306. 29But from thence ye shall seekH1245 Jehovah thy GodH430, and thou shalt findH4672 him, when thou searchest after him with all thy heartH3824 and with all thy soulH5315. 30When thou art in tribulation, and all these thingsH1697 are come upon thee, in the latterH319 daysH3117 thou shalt returnH7725 to Jehovah thy GodH430, and hearken unto his voiceH6963: 31for Jehovah thy GodH430 is a merciful GodH430; he will not fail thee, neither destroyH7843 thee, nor forgetH7911 the covenantH1285 of thy fathersH1 which he sware unto them.
