2 Chronicles 6
American Standard Version
1ThenH227 spake SolomonH8010, Jehovah hath saidH559 that he would dwellH7931 in the thickH6205 darknessH6205. 2But I have builtH1129 thee a houseH1004 of habitation, and a placeH4349 for thee to dwellH3427 in for everH5769. 3And the kingH4428 turnedH5437 his faceH6440, and blessedH1288 all the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478: and all the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478 stoodH5975.
4And he saidH559, BlessedH1288 be Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, who spake with his mouthH6310 unto DavidH1732 my fatherH1, and hath with his handsH3027 fulfilled it, sayingH559, 5Since the dayH3117 that I broughtH3318 forthH3318 my peopleH5971 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, I choseH977 no cityH5892 out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 in, that my nameH8034 might beH1961 there; neither choseH977 I any manH376 to beH1961 princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478: 6but I have chosenH977 JerusalemH3389, that my nameH8034 might beH1961 there, and have chosenH977 DavidH1732 to beH1961 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 7Now it was in the heartH3824 of DavidH1732 my fatherH1 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 8But Jehovah saidH559 unto DavidH1732 my fatherH1, Whereas it was in thy heartH3824 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for my nameH8034, thou didst wellH2895 that it was in thy heartH3824: 9nevertheless thou shalt not buildH1129 the houseH1004; but thy sonH1121 that shall comeH3318 forthH3318 out of thy loinsH2504, he shall buildH1129 the houseH1004 for my nameH8034. 10And Jehovah hath performed his wordH1697 that he spake; for I am risenH6965 up in the room of DavidH1732 my fatherH1, and sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478, as Jehovah promised, and have builtH1129 the houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 11And there have I setH7760 the arkH727, wherein is the covenantH1285 of Jehovah, which he madeH3772 with the children of IsraelH3478.
12And he stoodH5975 before the altarH4196 of Jehovah in the presenceH6440 of all the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478, and spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709 13(for SolomonH8010 had madeH6213 a brazen scaffold, fiveH2568 cubitsH520 long, and fiveH2568 cubitsH520 broad, and threeH7969 cubitsH520 high, and had setH5414 it in the midstH8432 of the court; and upon it he stoodH5975, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478, and spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709 toward heavenH8064); 14and he saidH559, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, there is no GodH430 like thee, in heavenH8064, or on earthH776; who keepest covenantH1285 and lovingkindness with thy servantsH5650, that walkH1980 before thee with all their heartH3820; 15who hast keptH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouthH6310, and hast fulfilled it with thy handH3027, as it is this dayH3117. 16NowH6258 thereforeH6258, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, keepH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that which thou hast promised him, sayingH559, There shall not fail thee a manH376 in my sight to sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478, if onlyH7535 thy children takeH8104 heedH8104 to their wayH1870, to walkH1980 in my lawH8451 as thou hast walkedH1980 before me. 17NowH6258 thereforeH6258, O Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, let thy wordH1697 be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servantH5650 DavidH1732.
18But will GodH430 in very deed dwellH3427 with menH120 on the earthH776? behold, heavenH8064 and the heavenH8064 of heavensH8064 cannot containH3557 thee; how much less this houseH1004 which I have builded! 19Yet have thou respect unto the prayerH8605 of thy servantH5650, and to his supplicationH8467, O Jehovah my GodH430, to hearken unto the cryH7440 and to the prayerH8605 which thy servantH5650 prayeth before thee; 20that thine eyesH5869 may beH1961 openH6605 toward this houseH1004 dayH3119 and nightH3915, even toward the placeH4725 whereof thou hast saidH559 that thou wouldest putH7760 thy nameH8034 there; to hearken unto the prayerH8605 which thy servantH5650 shall prayH6419 toward this placeH4725. 21And hearken thou to the supplicationsH8469 of thy servantH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whenH834 they shall prayH6419 toward this placeH4725: yea, hearH8085 thou from thy dwelling-place, even from heavenH8064; and whenH834 thou hearest, forgiveH5545.
22If a manH376 sinH2398 against his neighborH7453, and an oathH423 be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he comeH935 and swear before thine altarH4196 in this houseH1004; 23then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, and do, and judgeH8199 thy servantsH5650, requiting the wickedH7563, to bringH7725 his wayH1870 upon his own headH7218; and justifyingH6663 the righteousH6662, to giveH5414 him according to his righteousnessH6666.
24And if thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 be smitten down before the enemyH341, because they have sinnedH2398 against thee, and shall turnH7725 again and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and prayH6419 and make supplication before thee in this houseH1004; 25then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and bringH7725 them again unto the landH127 which thou gavest to them and to their fathersH1.
26When the heavensH8064 are shutH6113 up, and there is no rainH4306, because they have sinnedH2398 against thee; if they prayH6419 toward this placeH4725, and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and turnH7725 from their sinH2398, when thou dost afflictH6031 them: 27then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy servantsH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, when thou teachest them the goodH2896 wayH1870 wherein they should walk; and send rainH4306 upon thy landH776, which thou hast givenH5414 to thy peopleH5971 for an inheritanceH5159.
28If there beH1961 in the landH776 famineH7458, if there beH1961 pestilenceH1698, if there beH1961 blasting or mildewH3420, locustH697 or caterpillar; if their enemiesH341 besiege them in the landH776 of their cities; whatsoever plagueH1698 or whatsoever sicknessH4245 there beH1961; 29what prayerH8605 and supplicationH8467 soever beH1961 madeH3045 by any manH376, or by all thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, who shall knowH3045 every manH376 his own plagueH5061 and his own sorrow, and shall spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709 toward this houseH1004: 30then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064 thy dwelling-place, and forgiveH5545, and render unto every manH376 according to all his waysH1870, whose heartH3824 thou knowest (for thou, even thou onlyH905, knowest the heartsH3824 of the children of menH376); 31that they may fearH3372 thee, to walk in thy waysH1870, soH4616 long as they live in the landH127 which thou gavest unto our fathersH1.
32Moreover concerningH413 the foreignerH5237, that is not of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whenH834 he shall comeH935 from a farH7350 country for thy greatH1419 name’sH8034 sakeH4616, and thy mightyH2389 handH3027, and thine outstretchedH5186 armH2220; whenH834 they shall comeH935 and prayH6419 toward this houseH1004: 33then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, even from thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreignerH5237 calleth to thee for; that all the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 thy nameH8034, and fearH3372 thee, as doth thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and that they may knowH3045 that this houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 is calledH7121 by thy nameH8034.
34If thy peopleH5971 goH3318 out to battleH4421 against their enemiesH341, by whatsoever wayH1870 thou shalt sendH7971 them, and they prayH6419 unto thee toward this cityH5892 which thou hast chosenH977, and the houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034; 35then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064 their prayerH8605 and their supplicationH8467, and maintain their cause.
36If they sinH2398 against thee (for there is no manH120 that sinneth not), and thou be angryH599 with them, and deliver them to the enemyH341, so that they carry them away captiveH7617 unto a landH776 farH7350 off or near; 37yet if they shall bethink themselves in the landH776 whither they are carried captiveH7617, and turnH7725 again, and make supplication unto thee in the landH776 of their captivityH7633, sayingH559, We have sinnedH2398, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedlyH7561; 38if they returnH7725 unto thee with all their heartH3820 and with all their soulH5315 in the landH776 of their captivityH7633, whither they have carried them captiveH7617, and prayH6419 toward their landH776, which thou gavest unto their fathersH1, and the cityH5892 which thou hast chosenH977, and toward the houseH1004 which I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034: 39then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayerH8605 and their supplicationsH8467, and maintain their cause, and forgiveH5545 thy peopleH5971 who have sinnedH2398 against thee.
40NowH6258, O my GodH430, let, I beseech thee, thine eyesH5869 beH1961 openH6605, and let thine earsH241 beH1961 attent, unto the prayerH8605 that is made in this placeH4725. 41NowH6258 thereforeH6258 ariseH6965, O Jehovah GodH430, into thy resting-place, thou, and the arkH727 of thy strengthH5797: let thy priestsH3548, O Jehovah GodH430, be clothedH3847 with salvationH8668, and let thy saints rejoiceH8055 in goodness. 42O Jehovah GodH430, turnH7725 not awayH7725 the faceH6440 of thine anointedH4899: rememberH2142 thy lovingkindnesses to DavidH1732 thy servantH5650.
