2 Chronicles 26
American Standard Version
1And all the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 tookH3947 UzziahH5818, who was sixteen yearsH8141 old, and made him kingH4427 in the room of his fatherH1 AmaziahH558. 2He builtH1129 Eloth, and restoredH7725 it to JudahH3063, after that the kingH4428 slept with his fathersH1. 3Sixteen yearsH8141 old was UzziahH5818 when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 fiftyH2572 and twoH8147 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was Jechiliah, of JerusalemH3389. 4And he did that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, according to all that his fatherH1 AmaziahH558 had done. 5And he set himself to seekH1875 GodH430 in the daysH3117 of ZechariahH2148, who had understandingH995 in the vision of GodH430: and as long as he soughtH1875 Jehovah, GodH430 made him to prosperH6743.
6And he wentH3318 forthH3318 and warred against the PhilistinesH6430, and brake down the wallH2346 of GathH1661, and the wallH2346 of Jabneh, and the wallH2346 of AshdodH795; and he builtH1129 citiesH5892 in the country of AshdodH795, and among the PhilistinesH6430. 7And GodH430 helpedH5826 him against the PhilistinesH6430, and against the Arabians that dweltH3427 in Gur-baal, and the MeunimH4586. 8And the AmmonitesH5984 gaveH5414 tributeH4503 to UzziahH5818: and his nameH8034 spread abroad even to the entrance of EgyptH4714; for he waxed exceeding strongH2388. 9Moreover UzziahH5818 builtH1129 towersH4026 in JerusalemH3389 at the cornerH6438 gateH8179, and at the valleyH1516 gateH8179, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. 10And he builtH1129 towersH4026 in the wildernessH4057, and hewed out manyH7227 cisternsH953, for he had muchH7227 cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plainH4334: and he had husbandmen and vinedressersH3755 in the mountainsH2022 and in the fruitful fields; for he lovedH157 husbandry. 11Moreover UzziahH5818 had an armyH2428 of fighting men, that wentH3318 out to warH4421 by bandsH1416, according to the numberH4557 of their reckoning madeH6213 by JeielH3273 the scribeH5608 and MaaseiahH4641 the officer, under the handH3027 of HananiahH2608, one of the king’sH4428 captains. 12The whole numberH4557 of the headsH7218 of fathers’H1 houses, even the mightyH1368 menH1368 of valor, was twoH3967 thousandH505 and sixH8337 hundredH3967. 13And under their handH3027 was an armyH2428, threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505 and sevenH7651 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 hundredH3967, that madeH6213 warH4421 with mighty power, to helpH5826 the kingH4428 against the enemyH341. 14And UzziahH5818 preparedH3559 for them, even for all the hostH6635, shieldsH4043, and spearsH7420, and helmetsH3553, and coats of mail, and bowsH7198, and stonesH68 for slinging. 15And he madeH6213 in JerusalemH3389 engines, invented by skilful men, to beH1961 on the towersH4026 and upon the battlements, wherewith to shootH3384 arrowsH2678 and greatH1419 stonesH68. And his nameH8034 spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helpedH5826, till he was strongH2388.
16But when he was strong, his heartH3820 was lifted up, so that he did corruptlyH7843, and he trespassed against Jehovah his GodH430; for he wentH935 into the templeH1964 of Jehovah to burn incenseH7004 upon the altarH4196 of incenseH7004. 17And AzariahH5838 the priestH3548 wentH935 in after him, and with him fourscore priestsH3548 of Jehovah, that were valiant men: 18and they withstood UzziahH5818 the kingH4428, and saidH559 unto him, It pertaineth not unto thee, UzziahH5818, to burn incenseH6999 unto Jehovah, but to the priestsH3548 the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, that are consecratedH6942 to burn incenseH6999: goH3318 out of the sanctuaryH4720; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honorH3519 from Jehovah GodH430. 19Then UzziahH5818 was wroth; and he had a censerH4730 in his handH3027 to burn incenseH7004; and while he was wroth with the priestsH3548, the leprosy brake forth in his foreheadH4696 before the priestsH3548 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, beside the altarH4196 of incenseH7004. 20And AzariahH5838 the chiefH7218 priestH3548, and all the priestsH3548, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprousH6879 in his foreheadH4696, and they thrust him out quickly from thence; yea, himself hasted alsoH1571 to goH3318 out, because Jehovah had smitten him. 21And UzziahH5818 the kingH4428 wasH1961 a leper unto the dayH3117 of his deathH4194, and dweltH3427 in a separate houseH1004, being a leper; for he wasH1961 cutH1504 off from the houseH1004 of Jehovah: and JothamH3147 his sonH1121 wasH1961 over the king’sH4428 houseH1004, judgingH8199 the peopleH5971 of the landH776. 22Now the restH3499 of the acts of UzziahH5818, firstH7223 and lastH314, did IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030, the sonH1121 of AmozH531, writeH3789. 23So UzziahH5818 slept with his fathersH1; and they buriedH6912 him with his fathersH1 in the fieldH7704 of burialH6900 which belonged to the kingsH4428; for they saidH559, He is a leper: and JothamH3147 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
