2 Chronicles 18

American Standard Version

1Now JehoshaphatH3092 had richesH6239 and honorH3519 in abundanceH7230; and he joined affinity with AhabH256. 2And after certain yearsH8141 he wentH5927 downH3381 to AhabH256 to SamariaH8111. And AhabH256 killed sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 for him in abundanceH7230, and for the peopleH5971 that were with him, and moved him to goH5927 up with him to Ramoth-gilead. 3And AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth-gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971; and we will be with thee in the warH4421.

4And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the wordH1697 of Jehovah. 5Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908, fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376, and saidH559 unto them, Shall we goH5927 to Ramoth-gilead to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And they saidH559, GoH5927 up; for GodH430 will deliver it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 6But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there not hereH6311 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him? 7And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, There is yetH5750 oneH259 manH376 by whom we may inquire of Jehovah: but I hateH8130 him; for he never prophesieth goodH2896 concerning me, but always evilH7451: the same is MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of Imla. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Let not the kingH4428 sayH559 soH3651. 8Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121 an officer, and saidH559, Fetch quicklyH4116 Micaiah the sonH1121 of Imla. 9Now the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 satH3427 each on his throneH3678, arrayed in their robes, and they were sittingH3427 in an open place at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; and all the prophetsH5030 were prophesyingH5012 before them. 10And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of Chenaanah madeH6213 him hornsH7161 of ironH1270 and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed. 11And all the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 soH3651, sayingH559, GoH5927 up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosperH6743; for Jehovah will deliver it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428.

12And the messengerH4397 that wentH1980 to callH7121 MicaiahH4321 spake to him, sayingH559, Behold, the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 declare goodH2896 to the kingH4428 with oneH259 mouthH6310: let thy wordH1697 therefore, I pray thee, beH1961 like oneH259 of theirs, and speakH1696 thou goodH2896. 13And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, what my GodH430 saith, that will I speakH1696. 14And when he was comeH935 to the kingH4428, the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, Micaiah, shall we goH935 to Ramoth-gilead to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And he saidH559, GoH935 ye up, and prosperH6743; and they shall be delivered into your handH3027. 15And the kingH4428 saidH559 to him, HowH4100 many timesH6471 shall I adjureH7650 thee that thou speakH1696 unto me nothing but the truthH571 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah? 16And he saidH559, I sawH7200 all IsraelH3478 scatteredH6327 upon the mountainsH2022, as sheepH6629 that have no shepherdH7462: and Jehovah saidH559, These have no masterH113; let them returnH7725 every manH376 to his houseH1004 in peaceH7965. 17And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JehoshaphatH3092, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning me, but evilH7451? 18And Micaiah saidH559, ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of Jehovah: I sawH7200 Jehovah sittingH3427 upon his throneH3678, and all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 standingH5975 on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his left. 19And Jehovah saidH559, Who shall entice AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that he may goH5927 up and fallH5307 at Ramoth-gilead? And oneH2088 spake sayingH559 after this manner, and another sayingH559 after that manner. 20And there cameH3318 forthH3318 a spiritH7307, and stoodH5975 before Jehovah, and saidH559, I will entice him. And Jehovah saidH559 unto him, Wherewith? 21And he saidH559, I will goH3318 forthH3318, and will beH1961 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of all his prophetsH5030. And he saidH559, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevailH3201 alsoH1571: goH3318 forthH3318, and do soH3651. 22NowH6258 thereforeH6258, behold, Jehovah hath putH5414 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of these thy prophetsH5030; and Jehovah hath spokenH1696 evilH7451 concerning thee.

23Then ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of Chenaanah came near, and smote MicaiahH4321 upon the cheekH3895, and saidH559, Which wayH1870 went the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah from me to speakH1696 unto thee? 24And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 on that dayH3117, when thou shalt goH935 into an innerH2315 chamberH2315 to hideH2244 thyself. 25And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, TakeH3947 ye MicaiahH4321, and carry him backH7725 unto AmonH526 the governor of the cityH5892, and to JoashH3101 the king’sH4428 sonH1121; 26and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, PutH7760 this fellow in the prison, and feed him with breadH3899 of affliction and with waterH4325 of affliction, until I returnH7725 in peaceH7965. 27And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, If thou returnH7725 at all in peaceH7965, Jehovah hath not spokenH1696 by me. And he saidH559, HearH8085, ye peoplesH5971, all of you.

28So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH5927 up to Ramoth-gilead. 29And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, I will disguiseH2664 myself, and goH935 into the battleH4421; but putH3847 thou on thy robes. So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 disguisedH2664 himself; and they wentH935 into the battleH4421. 30Now the kingH4428 of Syria had commandedH6680 the captains of his chariotsH7393, sayingH559, FightH3898 neither with smallH6996 nor greatH1419, save onlyH905 with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 31And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 JehoshaphatH3092, that they saidH559, It is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. Therefore they turnedH5437 about to fightH3898 against him: but JehoshaphatH3092 criedH2199 out, and Jehovah helpedH5826 him; and GodH430 moved them to depart from him. 32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 that it wasH1961 not the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that they turnedH7725 backH7725 from pursuing him. 33And a certain manH376 drewH4900 his bowH7198 at a venture, and smote the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 between the joints of the armorH8302: wherefore he saidH559 to the driver of the chariot, TurnH2015 thy handH3027, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore woundedH5221. 34And the battleH4421 increased that dayH3117: howbeit the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 stayed himself up in his chariotH4818 against the Syrians until the even; and about the timeH6256 of the goingH935 down of the sunH8121 he diedH4191.
