2 Chronicles 36

American Standard Version

1Then the peopleH5971 of the landH776 tookH3947 JehoahazH3059 the sonH1121 of JosiahH2977, and made him kingH4427 in his father’sH1 stead in JerusalemH3389. 2Joahaz was twentyH6242 and threeH7969 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 threeH7969 monthsH2320 in JerusalemH3389. 3And the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 deposed him at JerusalemH3389, and fined the landH776 a hundredH3967 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 and a talentH3603 of goldH2091. 4And the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 made EliakimH471 his brotherH251 kingH4428 over JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, and changedH5437 his nameH8034 to JehoiakimH3079. And Neco tookH3947 Joahaz his brotherH251, and carried him to EgyptH4714.

5JehoiakimH3079 was twentyH6242 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 eleven yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah his GodH430. 6Against him cameH5927 up NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and boundH631 him in fettersH5178, to carry him to BabylonH894. 7NebuchadnezzarH5019 also carried of the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah to BabylonH894, and putH5414 them in his temple at BabylonH894. 8Now the restH3499 of the acts of JehoiakimH3079, and his abominationsH8441 which he did, and that which was foundH4672 in him, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063: and JehoiachinH3078 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.

9JehoiachinH3078 was eightH8083 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 threeH7969 monthsH2320 and tenH6235 daysH3117 in JerusalemH3389: and he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah. 10And at the return of the yearH8141 kingH4428 NebuchadnezzarH5019 sentH7971, and broughtH935 him to BabylonH894, with the goodly vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and made ZedekiahH6667 his brotherH251 kingH4428 over JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389.

11ZedekiahH6667 was twentyH6242 and oneH259 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 eleven yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: 12and he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah his GodH430; he humbledH3665 not himself before JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 speaking from the mouthH6310 of Jehovah. 13And he alsoH1571 rebelledH4775 against kingH4428 NebuchadnezzarH5019, who had madeH553 him swearH7650 by GodH430: but he stiffenedH7185 his neckH6203, and hardenedH7185 his heartH3824 against turningH7725 unto Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 14Moreover all the chiefsH8269 of the priestsH3548, and the peopleH5971, trespassed very greatlyH7235 after all the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471; and they polluted the houseH1004 of Jehovah which he had hallowed in JerusalemH3389. 15And Jehovah, the GodH430 of their fathersH1, sentH7971 to them by his messengersH4397, risingH7925 up earlyH7925 and sendingH7971, because he had compassionH2550 on his peopleH5971, and on his dwelling-place: 16but they mocked the messengersH4397 of GodH430, and despisedH959 his wordsH1697, and scoffed at his prophetsH5030, until the wrathH2534 of Jehovah arose against his peopleH5971, till there was no remedy.

17Therefore he broughtH5927 upon them the kingH4428 of the ChaldeansH3778, who slewH2026 their youngH970 menH970 with the swordH2719 in the houseH1004 of their sanctuaryH4720, and had no compassionH2550 upon youngH970 manH2205 or virginH1330, oldH2205 manH2205 or hoary-headed: he gaveH5414 them all into his handH3027. 18And all the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, greatH1419 and smallH6996, and the treasuresH214 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and the treasuresH214 of the kingH4428, and of his princesH8269, all these he broughtH935 to BabylonH894. 19And they burntH8313 the houseH1004 of GodH430, and brake down the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fireH784, and destroyedH7843 all the goodly vesselsH3627 thereof. 20And them that had escaped from the swordH2719 carried he away to BabylonH894; and they wereH1961 servantsH5650 to him and his sonsH1121 until the reignH4438 of the kingdomH4438 of PersiaH6539: 21to fulfil the wordH1697 of Jehovah by the mouthH6310 of JeremiahH3414, until the landH776 had enjoyed its sabbathsH7676: for as long as it lay desolateH8074 it kept sabbathH7676, to fulfil threescore and ten yearsH8141.

22Now in the first yearH8141 of CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539, that the wordH1697 of Jehovah by the mouthH6310 of JeremiahH3414 might be accomplished, Jehovah stirredH5782 up the spiritH7307 of CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539, so that he made a proclamationH6963 throughout all his kingdomH4438, andputH3615 italsoH1571 in writing, sayingH559, 23ThusH3541 saith CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539, All the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 hath Jehovah, the GodH430 of heavenH8064, givenH5414 me; and he hath charged me to buildH1129 him a houseH1004 in JerusalemH3389, which is in JudahH3063. Whosoever there is among you of all his peopleH5971, Jehovah his GodH430 be with him, and let him goH5927 up.
