1 Samuel 30:1-18
1And it cameH935 to pass, when DavidH1732 and his menH376 wereH1961 comeH935 to ZiklagH6860 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that the Amalekites had madeH6584 a raidH6584 upon the SouthH5045, and upon ZiklagH6860, and had smitten ZiklagH6860, and burnedH8313 it with fireH784, 2and had takenH7617 captiveH7617 the womenH802and allthat were therein, both smallH6996 and greatH1419: they slew not any, but carried them off, and went their wayH1870. 3And when DavidH1732 and his menH376 cameH935 to the cityH5892, behold, it was burnedH8313 with fireH784; and their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121, and their daughtersH1323, were takenH7617 captiveH7617. 4Then DavidH1732 and the peopleH5971 that were with him liftedH5375 up their voiceH6963 and weptH1058, until they had no more powerH3581 to weepH1058. 5And David’s twoH8147 wivesH802 were takenH7617 captiveH7617, AhinoamH293 the Jezreelitess, and AbigailH26 the wifeH802 of NabalH5037 the CarmeliteH3761. 6And DavidH1732 was greatly distressed; for the peopleH5971 spake of stoningH5619 him, because the soulH5315 of all the peopleH5971 was grieved, every manH376 for his sonsH1121 and for his daughtersH1323: but DavidH1732 strengthenedH2388 himself in Jehovah his GodH430.
7And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, the sonH1121 of AhimelechH288, I pray thee, bringH5066 me hither the ephodH646. And AbiatharH54 broughtH5066 thither the ephodH646 to DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 inquired of Jehovah, sayingH559, If I pursueH7291 after this troopH1416, shall I overtakeH5381 them? And he answered him, PursueH7291; for thou shalt surely overtakeH5381 them, and shalt without fail recover all. 9So DavidH1732 wentH935, he and the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him, and cameH935 to the brook BesorH1308, whereH834 those that were leftH3498 behind stayed. 10But DavidH1732 pursuedH7291, he and fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376; for twoH3967 hundredH3967 stayed behind, who were so faint that they could not go over the brook BesorH1308.
11And they foundH4672 an EgyptianH4713 in the fieldH7704, and brought him to DavidH1732, and gaveH5414 him breadH3899, and he did eatH398; and they gaveH5414 him waterH4325 to drinkH8248; 12and they gaveH5414 him a piece of a cakeH1690 of figsH1690, and twoH8147 clusters of raisinsH6778: and when he had eatenH398, his spiritH7307 came again to him; for he had eatenH398 no breadH3899, nor drunkH8354 any waterH4325, threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nightsH3915. 13And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he saidH559, I am a youngH5288 manH376 of EgyptH4713, servantH5650 to an AmalekiteH6003; and my masterH113 leftH5800 me, because threeH7969 daysH3117 ago I fell sickH2470. 14We madeH6584 a raidH6584 upon the SouthH5045 of the Cherethites, and upon that which belongeth to JudahH3063, and upon the SouthH5045 of CalebH3612; and we burnedH8313 ZiklagH6860 with fireH784. 15And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, Wilt thou bringH3381 me downH3381 to this troopH1416? And he saidH559, SwearH7650 unto me by GodH430, that thou wilt neither killH4191 me, nor deliverH5462 me up into the handsH3027 of my masterH113, and I will bringH3381 thee downH3381 to this troopH1416.
16And whenH834 he had brought him downH3381, behold, they were spreadH5203 abroad over all the groundH776, eatingH398 and drinkingH8354, and dancing, because of all the greatH1419 spoilH7998 that they had takenH3947 out of the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the landH776 of JudahH3063. 17And DavidH1732 smote them from the twilight even unto the eveningH6153 of the nextH4283 dayH4283: and there escapedH4422 not a manH376 of them, saveH4422 fourH702 hundredH3967 youngH5288 menH376, who rodeH7392 upon camelsH1581 and fledH5127. 18And DavidH1732 recovered all that the Amalekites had takenH3947; and DavidH1732 rescuedH5337 his twoH8147 wivesH802.
