In Egypt Jeremiah Warns of Judgment

1But as soon as Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֜הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414,whomאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430had sentשְׁלָח֛וֹshe.la.ChoH7971to them, hadfinishedכְּכַלּ֨וֹתke.kha.LotH3615tellingלְדַבֵּ֣רle.da.BerH1696allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971allכָּל־kol-H3605the wordsדִּבְרֵי֙div.ReiH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430--that is, allכָּל־kol-H3605theseהָאֵֽלֶּה׃ סha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697--

3butBaruchבָּרוּךְ֙ba.ruKhH1263the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Neriahנֵ֣רִיָּ֔הne.ri.YahH5374is incitingמַסִּ֥יתma.SitH5496you against us inH4616orderH4616toH4616handבְיַֽד־ve.yad-H5414 H3027us overH5414to the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ha.kas.DimH3778,so they will putלְהָמִ֣יתle.ha.MitH4191us toH4191deathH4191or exileוּלְהַגְל֥וֹתu.le.hag.LotH1540us to Babylonבָּבֶֽל׃ba.VelH894!”

5Instead, JohananH3076the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kareahקָרֵ֙חַ֙ka.Re.achH7143and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the commandersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the forcesהַחֲיָלִ֔יםha.cha.ya.LimH2428tookוַיִּקַּ֞חvai.yi.KachH3947theentireכָּל־kol-H3605remnantשְׁאֵרִ֣יתshe.'e.RitH7611of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had returnedשָׁ֗בוּSha.vuH7725from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the nationsהַגּוֹיִם֙ha.go.YimH1471to whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834they had been scatteredנִדְּחוּ־ni.de.chu-H5080,in order to resideלָג֖וּרla.GurH1481in the landבְּאֶ֥רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063--

6the menהַ֠גְּבָרִיםHa.ge.va.rimH1397,the womenהַנָּשִׁ֣יםha.na.ShimH802, thechildrenהַטַּף֮ha.TafH2945, theking’sהַמֶּלֶךְ֒ha.me.leKhH4428daughtersבְּנ֣וֹתbe.NotH1323, andeveryכָּל־kol-H3605personהַנֶּ֗פֶשׁha.Ne.feshH5315whom Nebuzaradanנְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֣ןne.vu.zar.'a.DanH5018the captainרַב־rav-H7227of the bodyguardטַבָּחִ֔יםta.ba.ChimH2876had leftהִנִּ֙יחַ֙hi.Ni.achH5117with Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֖הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahikamאֲחִיקָ֣ם'a.chi.KamH296and grandsonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Shaphanשָׁפָ֑ןsha.FanH8227, together withJeremiahיִרְמְיָ֣הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414the prophetהַנָּבִ֔יאha.na.Vi'H5030and Baruchבָּר֖וּךְba.RukhH1263the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Neriahנֵרִיָּֽהוּ׃ne.ri.Ya.huH5374--

8Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961to Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֔הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414inTahpanhesבְּתַחְפַּנְחֵ֖סbe.tach.pan.ChesH8471,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

9“Takeקַ֣חkachH3947somelargeגְּדֹל֗וֹתge.do.LotH1419stonesאֲבָנִ֣ים'a.va.NimH68in yourhandsבְּיָדְךָ֞be.ya.de.KhaH3027and hideוּטְמַנְתָּ֤םu.te.man.TamH2934them in themortarבַּמֶּ֙לֶט֙ba.Me.letH4423in the brickבַּמַּלְבֵּ֔ןba.mal.BenH4404terracewhichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834is at the entranceבְּפֶ֥תַחbe.Fe.tachH6607of Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֖הpar.'OhH6547palaceבֵּית־beit-H1004in Tahpanhesבְּתַחְפַּנְחֵ֑סbe.tach.pan.ChesH8471,in the sightלְעֵינֵ֖יle.'ei.NeiH5869ofsomeH376of theJewsיְהוּדִֽים׃ye.hu.DimH3064;

10and sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ve.'a.mar.TaH559to them, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֜וֹתtze.va.'otH6635,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478saysאָמַר֩'a.MarH559: “BeholdH2009,I am going to sendשֹׁלֵ֙חַ֙sho.Le.achH7971menand getוְ֠לָקַחְתִּיVe.la.kach.tiH3947My servantעַבְדִּ֔י'av.DiH5650Nebuchadnezzarנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֤רne.vu.khad.re.TzarH5019the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶל֙ba.VelH894,and I am going to setוְשַׂמְתִּ֣יve.sam.TiH7760his throneכִסְא֔וֹkhis.'OH3678overמִמַּ֛עַלmi.Ma.'alH4605theseהָאֵ֖לֶּהha.'E.lehH428stonesלָאֲבָנִ֥יםla.'a.va.NimH68that I have hiddenטָמָ֑נְתִּיta.Ma.ne.tiH2934;and he will spreadוְנָטָ֥הve.na.TahH5186hiscanopyשַׁפְרִיר֖וֹshaf.ru.rovH8237overעֲלֵיהֶֽם׃'a.lei.HemH5921them.

11He will also comeוּבָ֕אu.va.'ah'H935andstrikeוְהִכָּ֖הve.hi.KahH5221the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714;those whoH834are meantfor deathלַמָּ֣וֶתla.Ma.vetH4194will be given overto deathלַמָּ֗וֶתla.Ma.vetH4194,and those for captivityלַשְּׁבִי֙la.she.ViH7628to captivityלַשֶּׁ֔בִיla.She.viH7628, andthose for the swordלַחֶ֖רֶבla.Che.revH2719to the swordלֶחָֽרֶב׃le.Cha.revH2719.

12AndI shall setוְהִצַּ֣תִּיve.hi.Tza.tiH3341fireאֵ֗שׁ'EshH784to the templesבְּבָתֵּי֙be.va.TeiH1004of thegodsאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,and he will burnוּשְׂרָפָ֖םu.se.ra.FamH8313them and takeוְשָׁבָ֑םve.sha.VamH7617them captiveH7617. So he willwrapוְעָטָה֩ve.'a.TahH5844himself with the landאֶ֨רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֜יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714as a shepherdהָֽרֹעֶה֙ha.ro.'EhH7462wrapsיַעְטֶ֤הya'.TehH5844himself with his garmentבִּגְד֔וֹbig.DoH899,and he will departוְיָצָ֥אve.ya.Tza'H3318from thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033safelyבְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃be.sha.LomH7965.

13He will also smashH7665toH7665piecesH7665theobelisksמַצְּבוֹת֙ma.tze.VotH4676ofHeliopolisH1053,whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834is in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714;and the templesבָּתֵּ֥יba.TeiH1004of the godsאֱלֹהֵֽי־'e.lo.hei-H430of Egyptמִצְרַ֖יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714he will burnיִשְׂרֹ֥ףyis.RofH8313with fireבָּאֵֽשׁ׃ סba.'EshH784.”’”
