4Now Jeremiahוְיִרְמְיָ֕הוּve.yir.me.Ya.huH3414was stillcomingבָּ֥אba'H935and goingוְיֹצֵ֖אve.yo.Tze'H3318amongבְּת֣וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971, for they had not yetputנָתְנ֥וּna.te.NuH5414him in prisonבֵּ֥ית הַכְּלֽוּא׃beit ha.ke.li'H1004 H3628.

5Meanwhile,Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֖הpar.'OhH6547armyוְחֵ֥ילve.CheilH2428had setיָצָ֣אya.Tza'H3318out from Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714;and when the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֜יםha.kas.DimH3778who had been besiegingהַצָּרִ֤יםha.tza.RimH6696 H5921Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ye.ru.sha.LimH3389heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֨וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085the reportשִׁמְעָ֔םshim.'AmH8088about them, theywithdrewוַיֵּ֣עָל֔וּvai.Ye.'a.LuH5927from Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ פye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

6Then the wordדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068cameוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961to Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֥הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414the prophetהַנָּבִ֖יאha.na.Vi'H5030,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

7“ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478saysאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559: ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541you are to sayתֹֽאמְרוּ֙to.me.RuH559to the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,who sentהַשֹּׁלֵ֧חַha.sho.Le.achH7971you to Me to inquireלְדָרְשֵׁ֑נִיle.da.re.She.niH1875of Me: “Beholdהִנֵּ֣ה׀hi.NehH2009,Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֗הpar.'OhH6547armyחֵ֣ילcheilH2428,which has comeH3318outH3318to helpלְעֶזְרָ֔הle.'ez.RahH5833you, is going to returnשָׁ֥בshavH7725to its own landלְאַרְצ֖וֹle.'ar.TzoH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

8Then the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֔יםha.kas.DimH3778willreturnוְשָׁ֙בוּ֙ve.Sha.vuH7725and fightוְנִלְחֲמ֖וּve.nil.cha.MuH3898againstעַל־'al-H5921thisH2088cityהָעִ֣ירha.'IrH5892,and they will captureוּלְכָדֻ֖הָu.le.kha.Du.haH3920it and burnוּשְׂרָפֻ֥הָu.se.ra.Fu.haH8313it with fireבָאֵֽשׁ׃ סva.'EshH784.”’

9ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘Do notdeceiveH5378yourselvesנַפְשֹֽׁתֵיכֶם֙naf.sho.tei.KhemH5315,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “The Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֑יםha.kas.DimH3778will certainlyהָלֹ֛ךְha.LokhH1980goיֵלְכ֥וּye.le.KhuH1980awayfrom us,” for they will not goיֵלֵֽכוּ׃ye.Le.khuH1980.

10Foreven ifאִם־'im-H518you had defeatedהִכִּיתֶ֞םhi.ki.TemH5221the entireכָּל־kol-H3605armyחֵ֤ילcheilH2428of Chaldeansכַּשְׂדִּים֙kas.DimH3778who were fightingהַנִּלְחָמִ֣יםha.nil.cha.MimH3898againstאִתְּכֶ֔ם'i.te.KhemH854you, and there were onlywoundedמְדֻקָּרִ֑יםme.du.ka.RimH1856menH376leftוְנִ֨שְׁאֲרוּve.Nish.'a.ruH7604among them, eachH376manH376in his tentבְּאָהֳלוֹ֙be.'o.ho.LoH168,they would riseH6965upH6965andburnוְשָֽׂרְפ֛וּve.sa.re.FuH8313thisH2088cityהָעִ֥ירha.'IrH5892with fireבָּאֵֽשׁ׃ba.'EshH784.’”

Jeremiah Imprisoned

11Now it happenedוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961when the armyחֵ֣ילcheilH2428of the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֔יםha.kas.DimH3778had withdrawnבְּהֵֽעָלוֹת֙be.he.'a.lOtH5927from Jerusalemיְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389becauseמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH4480 H6440of Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹֽה׃ סpar.'OhH6547armyחֵ֥ילcheilH2428,

12that Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙yir.me.Ya.huH3414leftוַיֵּצֵ֤אvai.ye.Tze'H3318Jerusalemמִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םmi.Ru.sha.LimH3389to goלָלֶ֖כֶתla.Le.khetH1980to the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֑ןbin.ya.MinH1144in order totakeH2505possessionH2505ofH2505somepropertyH2505thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH4480 H8033amongבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.

13While he was at theGateבְּשַׁ֣עַרbe.Sha.'arH8179of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֗ןbin.ya.MinH1144,a captainבַּ֣עַלBa.'alH1167of the guardפְּקִדֻ֔תpe.ki.DutH6488whose nameוּשְׁמוֹ֙u.she.MoH8034was Irijahיִרְאִיָּ֔יהyir.'i.YaihH3376,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Shelemiahשֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֖הshe.lem.YahH8018the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Hananiahחֲנַנְיָ֑הcha.nan.YahH2608was thereוְשָׁם֙ve.ShamH8033; and hearrestedוַיִּתְפֹּ֞שׂvai.yit.PosH8610Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֤הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414the prophetהַנָּבִיא֙ha.na.Vi'H5030,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “You are desertingנֹפֵֽל׃no.FelH5307to the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֖יםha.kas.DimH3778!”

14But Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֜הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “A lieשֶׁ֗קֶרShe.kerH8267!I am not desertingנֹפֵל֙no.FelH5307to the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֔יםha.kas.DimH3778”;yet he would not listenשָׁמַ֖עsha.Ma'H8085to him. So Irijahיִרְאִיָּיה֙yir.'i.YaihH3376arrestedוַיִּתְפֹּ֤שׂvai.yit.PosH8610Jeremiahבְּיִרְמְיָ֔הוּbe.yir.me.Ya.huH3414and broughtוַיְבִאֵ֖הוּvay.vi.'E.huH935him to the officialsהַשָּׂרִֽים׃ha.sa.RimH8269.

15Then the officialsהַשָּׂרִ֛יםha.sa.RimH8269wereH7107angryוַיִּקְצְפ֧וּvai.yik.tze.FuH7107at Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414and they beatוְהִכּ֣וּve.hi.KuH5221him, andputוְנָתְנ֨וּve.na.te.NuH5414him in prisonבֵּ֣ית הָאֵס֗וּרbeit ha.'e.SurH1004 H612in the houseבֵּ֚יתbeitH1004of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֣ןye.ho.na.TanH3083the scribeH5613,for they had madeעָשׂ֖וּ'a.SuH6213it into the prisonלְבֵ֥ית הַכֶּֽלֶא׃le.Veit ha.Ke.le'H1004 H3608.

16For Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֛הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414had comeבָ֧אva'H935into thedungeonבֵּ֥ית הַבּ֖וֹרbeit ha.BorH1004 H953,that is, the vaultedH2588cellH2588;and Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414stayedוַיֵּֽשֶׁב־vai.ye.shev-H3427thereשָׁ֥םshamH8033manyרַבִּֽים׃ פra.BimH7227daysיָמִ֥יםya.MimH3117.

17Now Kingהַמֶּ֨לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֜הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971menand tookוַיִּקָּחֵ֗הוּvai.yi.ka.Che.huH3947him out;and in his palaceבְּבֵיתוֹ֙be.vei.ToH1004the kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428secretlyבַּסֵּ֔תֶרba.Se.terH5643askedוַיִּשְׁאָלֵ֨הוּvai.yish.'a.Le.huH7592him and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “IsH3426thereH3426awordדָּבָ֖רda.VarH1697from the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068?”And Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙yir.me.Ya.huH3414saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “ThereH3426isH3426!”Then he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You will behandedבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH5414 H3027overH5414to the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶ֖לba.VelH894!”

18Moreover, Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֔הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֑הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667, “Inwhatמֶה֩mehH4100wayhave I sinnedחָטָ֨אתִֽיcha.Ta.tiH2398against you, or your servantsוְלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ve.la.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650,or thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleוְלָעָ֣םve.la.'AmH5971,that you have putנְתַתֶּ֥םne.ta.TemH5414me in prisonבֵּ֥ית הַכֶּֽלֶא׃beit ha.Ke.le'H1004 H3608?

20But nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258,pleaseנָ֖אna'H4994listenשְֽׁמַֽע־she.ma'-H8085,my lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428;pleaseנָ֤אna'H4994let mypleaתְחִנָּתִי֙te.chi.na.TiH8467comeתִּפָּל־ti.pol-H5307beforeלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you and do not make me returnתְּשִׁבֵ֗נִיte.shi.Ve.niH7725to the houseבֵּ֚יתbeitH1004of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֣ןye.ho.na.TanH3083the scribeH5613,so that I will not dieאָמ֖וּת'a.MutH4191thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.”

21Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֗הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667gaveH6680aH6680commandוַיְצַוֶּ֞הvay.tza.VehH6680,and they placedH6485Jeremiahיִרְמְיָהוּ֮yir.me.ya.HuH3414inH6485custodyH6485in thecourtyardבַּחֲצַ֣רba.cha.TzarH2691of the guardhouseהַמַּטָּרָה֒ha.ma.ta.RahH4307,and gaveוְנָתֹן֩ve.na.TonH5414him a loafכִכַּר־khi.kar-H3603ofbreadלֶ֤חֶםLe.chemH3899dailyלַיּוֹם֙lai.yOmH3117from the bakers’הָאֹפִ֔יםha.'o.FimH644streetמִח֣וּץmi.ChutzH2351,untilעַד־'ad-H5704allכָּל־kol-H3605the breadהַלֶּ֖חֶםha.Le.chemH3899in the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892wasgoneתֹּ֥םtomH8552.So Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֔הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414remainedוַיֵּ֣שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the courtyardבַּחֲצַ֖רba.cha.TzarH2691of the guardhouseהַמַּטָּרָֽה׃ha.ma.ta.RahH4307.
