Parable of the Boiling Pot

2“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֗ם'a.DamH120,writeכְּתָבke.tov-H3789the nameשֵׁ֣םshemH8034of the dayהַיּ֔וֹםhai.YomH3117,thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088veryעֶ֖צֶם'E.tzemH6106dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117.The kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶל֙ba.VelH894haslaidH5564siegeH5564to Jerusalemיְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םye.Ru.sha.LimH3389thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088veryבְּעֶ֖צֶםbe.'E.tzemH6106dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

3Presentוּמְשֹׁ֤לu.me.SholH4911aparableמָשָׁ֔לma.ShalH4912to therebelliousהַמֶּ֙רִי֙ha.Me.riH4805houseבֵּית־beit-H1004and sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ve.'a.mar.TaH559to them, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559: “Putשְׁפֹ֤תshe.FotH8239on thepotהַסִּיר֙ha.SirH5518,putשְׁפֹ֔תshe.FotH8239iton and alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571pourיְצֹ֥קye.TzokH3332waterמָֽיִם׃Ma.yimH4325into it;

4Putאֱסֹ֤ף'e.SofH622in it the piecesH5409ofH5409meatנְתָחֶ֙יהָ֙ne.ta.Chei.haH5409,Everyכָּל־kol-H3605goodט֖וֹבTovH2896pieceנֵ֥תַחNe.tachH5409,the thighיָרֵ֣ךְya.RekhH3409and the shoulderוְכָתֵ֑ףve.kha.TefH3802;Fillמַלֵּֽא׃ma.Le'H4390itwith choiceמִבְחַ֥רmiv.CharH4005bonesעֲצָמִ֖ים'a.tza.MimH6106.

5Takeלָק֔וֹחַla.Ko.achH3947thechoicestמִבְחַ֤רmiv.CharH4005of the flockהַצֹּאן֙ha.tzoNH6629,And alsoוְגַ֛םve.GamH1571stackH1754woodH6086underתַּחְתֶּ֑יהָtach.Tei.haH8478the pot.Make it boilרַתַּ֣חra.TachH7570vigorouslyרְתָחֶ֔יהָre.ta.Chei.haH7571.Alsoגַּם־gam-H1571boilבָּשְׁל֥וּba.she.LuH1310its bonesH6106in it.”

6‘Thereforeלָכֵ֞ןla.KhenH3651,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֣ר׀'a.MarH559: “Woeאוֹי֮'OH188to thebloodyהַדָּמִים֒ha.da.MimH1818cityעִ֣יר'irH5892,To the potסִ֚ירsirH5518in whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834there is rustחֶלְאָתָ֣הchel.'a.TahH2457And whose rustוְחֶ֨לְאָתָ֔הּve.Chel.'a.TahH2457has not goneH3318outH3318of it!TakeH3318outH3318of it pieceלִנְתָחֶ֤יהָlin.ta.Chei.haH5409after pieceלִנְתָחֶ֙יהָ֙lin.ta.Chei.haH5409,WithoutH3808makingנָפַ֥לna.FalH5307a choiceגּוֹרָֽל׃go.RalH1486.

7For her bloodדָמָהּ֙da.MahH1818is in her midstבְּתוֹכָ֣הּbe.to.KhahH8432;She placedשָׂמָ֑תְהוּsa.Ma.te.huH7760it on the bareצְחִ֥יחַtze.Chi.achH6706rockסֶ֖לַעSe.la'H5553; She did notpourשְׁפָכַ֙תְהוּ֙she.fa.Khat.huH8210it on the groundהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776To coverלְכַסּ֥וֹתle.kha.SotH3680it with dustעָפָֽר׃'a.FarH6083.

8So that it maycause wrathחֵמָה֙che.MahH2534to comeH5927upH5927to takeלִנְקֹ֣םlin.KomH5358vengeanceנָקָ֔םna.KamH5359,I have putנָתַ֥תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414her bloodדָּמָ֖הּda.MahH1818on the bareצְחִ֣יחַtze.Chi.achH6706rockסָ֑לַעSa.la'H5553,So that it will not be coveredהִכָּסֽוֹת׃ פhi.ka.SotH3680.”

10HeapH7235onH7235the woodהָעֵצִים֙ha.'e.TzimH6086,kindleהַדְלֵ֣קhad.LekH1814the fireהָאֵ֔שׁha.'EshH784,CookH8552the meatהַבָּשָׂ֑רha.ba.SarH1320thoroughlyH8552And mixוְהַרְקַח֙ve.har.KachH7543inH7543the spicesהַמֶּרְקָחָ֔הha.mer.ka.ChahH4841,And let the bonesוְהָעֲצָמ֖וֹתve.ha.'a.tza.MotH6106be burnedיֵחָֽרוּ׃ye.Cha.ruH2787up.

11Thensetוְהַעֲמִידֶ֥הָve.ha.'a.mi.De.haH5975it emptyרֵקָ֑הre.KahH7386on its burningגֶּחָלֶ֖יהָge.cha.Lei.haH1513coalsH1513Soלְמַ֨עַןle.Ma.'anH4616thatH4616it may beH2552hotH2552And its bronzeנְחֻשְׁתָּ֗הּne.chush.TahH5178mayglowוְחָ֣רָהve.Cha.rahH2787, And itsfilthinessטֻמְאָתָ֔הּtum.'a.TahH2932may be meltedוְנִתְּכָ֤הve.ni.te.KhahH5413in it,Its rustחֶלְאָתָֽהּ׃chel.'a.TahH2457eliminatedתִּתֻּ֖םti.TumH8552.

12She hasweariedהֶלְאָ֑תhel.'AtH3811Mewith workתְּאֻנִ֖יםte.'u.NimH8383,Yet her greatרַבַּ֣תra.BatH7227rustחֶלְאָתָ֔הּchel.'a.TahH2457has not goneתֵצֵ֤אte.Tze'H3318from her; Lether rustחֶלְאָתָֽהּ׃chel.'a.TahH2457bein the fireבְּאֵ֖שׁbe.'EshH784!

13In your filthinessבְּטֻמְאָתֵ֖ךְbe.tum.'a.TekhH2932is outrageousH2154sinH2154.Becauseיַ֤עַןYa.'anH3282I wouldhave cleansedH2891you,Yet you areH2891not cleanH2891,You will not be cleansedH2891from your filthinessמִטֻּמְאָתֵךְ֙mi.tum.'a.teKhH2932againע֔וֹדodH5750Untilעַד־'ad-H5704I haveexpendedהֲנִיחִ֥יha.ni.ChiH5117My wrathחֲמָתִ֖יcha.ma.TiH2534on you.

14I, the LordH3068,have spokenדִּבַּ֙רְתִּי֙di.Bar.tiH1696; it iscomingבָּאָ֣הba.'AhH935and I will actוְעָשִׂ֔יתִיve.'a.Si.tiH6213.I will not overlookאֶפְרַ֥ע'ef.Ra'H6544, I will notpityאָח֖וּס'a.ChusH2347,and I will not beH5162sorryH5162;according to your waysכִּדְרָכַ֤יִךְkid.ra.Kha.yikhH1870and according to your deedsוְכַעֲלִילוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ve.kha.'a.li.lo.Ta.yikhH5949I will judgeשְׁפָט֔וּךְshe.fa.TukhH8199you,” declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.’”

16“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,beholdH2009,I am about to takeלֹקֵ֧חַlo.Ke.achH3947from youwhatH4261isH4261preciousH4261to your eyesעֵינֶ֖יךָ'ei.Nei.khaH5869with afatalH4046blowבְּמַגֵּפָ֑הbe.ma.ge.FahH4046; but you shall notmournתִסְפֹּד֙tis.PodH5594and you shall not weepתִבְכֶּ֔הtiv.KehH1058, and yourtearsדִּמְעָתֶֽךָ׃dim.'a.Te.khaH1832shall not comeתָב֖וֹאta.Vo'H935.

17Groanהֵאָנֵ֣ק׀he.'a.NekH602silentlyדֹּ֗םDomH1826;doתַֽעֲשֶׂ֔הta.'a.SehH6213noH3808mourningאֵ֣בֶל'E.velH60for the deadמֵתִים֙me.TimH4191.Bindחֲב֣וֹשׁcha.Vo.oshH2280on your turbanפְאֵֽרְךָ֙fe.'e.re.KhaH6287and putתָּשִׂ֣יםta.SimH7760your sandalsוּנְעָלֶ֖יךָu.ne.'a.Lei.khaH5275on your feetבְּרַגְלֶ֑יךָbe.rag.Lei.khaH7272, and do notcoverתַעְטֶה֙ta'.TehH5844yourmustacheשָׂפָ֔םsa.FamH8222, anddo not eatתֹאכֵֽל׃to.KhelH398thebreadוְלֶ֥חֶםve.Le.chemH3899of otherpeopleH376.”

18So I spokeוָאֲדַבֵּ֤רva.'a.da.BerH1696to the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242,and in the eveningבָּעָ֑רֶבba.'A.revH6153my wifeאִשְׁתִּ֖י'ish.TiH802diedוַתָּ֥מָתva.Ta.motH4191.And in the morningבַּבֹּ֖קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242I didוָאַ֥עַשׂva.'A.'asH6213as I was commandedצֻוֵּֽיתִי׃tzu.Vei.tiH6680.

19And the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to me, “Will you not tellתַגִּ֥ידta.GidH5046us whatמָה־mah-H4100theseH428thingsאֵ֣לֶּה'E.lehH428meanfor us, that you are doingעֹשֶֽׂה׃'o.SehH6213?”

20Then I saidוָאֹמַ֖רva.'o.MarH559to them, “The wordדְּבַ֨ר־de.Var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068cameהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

21‘Speakאֱמֹ֣ר׀'e.MorH559to the houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֮'a.MarH559: ‘BeholdH2009,I am about to profaneמְחַלֵּ֤לme.cha.LelH2490My sanctuaryמִקְדָּשִׁי֙mik.da.ShiH4720,the prideגְּא֣וֹןge.'onH1347of your powerעֻזְּכֶ֔ם'u.ze.KhemH5797,that whichH4261isH4261preciousH4261in your eyesעֵֽינֵיכֶ֖ם'ei.nei.KhemH5869and the longingוּמַחְמַ֣לu.mach.MalH4263of your soulנַפְשְׁכֶ֑םnaf.she.KhemH5315; and yoursonsוּבְנֵיכֶ֧םu.ve.nei.KhemH1121and your daughtersוּבְנֽוֹתֵיכֶ֛םu.ve.no.tei.KhemH1323whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have leftH5800behindH5800will fallיִפֹּֽלוּ׃yi.Po.luH5307by the swordבַּחֶ֥רֶבba.Che.revH2719.

23Your turbansוּפְאֵרֵכֶ֣םu.fe.'e.re.KhemH6287will be on your headsרָאשֵׁיכֶ֗םra.shei.KhemH7218,and your sandalsוְנַֽעֲלֵיכֶם֙ve.na.'a.lei.KhemH5275on your feetבְּרַגְלֵיכֶ֔םbe.rag.lei.KhemH7272. Youwill not mournתִסְפְּד֖וּtis.pe.DuH5594and you will not weepתִבְכּ֑וּtiv.KuH1058; butyou will rotH4743awayוּנְמַקֹּתֶם֙u.ne.ma.ko.TemH4743in your guiltyH5771deedsH5771,and you will groanוּנְהַמְתֶּ֖םu.ne.ham.TemH5098to oneאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376anotherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251.

24So Ezekielיְחֶזְקֵ֤אלye.chez.KelH3168will be asignלְמוֹפֵ֔תle.mo.FetH4159to you; according to allכְּכֹ֥לke.KholH3605that he has doneעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213,you will doתַּעֲשׂ֑וּta.'a.SuH6213.When it comesבְּבֹאָ֕הּbe.vo.'AhH935,then you will knowוִֽידַעְתֶּ֕םvi.da'.TemH3045that I am the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.’”

25‘As for you, sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָ֔ם'a.DamH120, will itnot be on the dayבְּי֨וֹםbe.YomH3117when I takeקַחְתִּ֤יkach.TiH3947from them theirstrongholdמָ֣עוּזָּ֔םma.'u.ZamH4581,the joyמְשׂ֖וֹשׂme.SosH4885of their splendorתִּפְאַרְתָּ֑םtif.'ar.TamH8597,that whichH4261is preciousH4261in their eyesעֵֽינֵיהֶם֙'ei.nei.HemH5869and theirheart’sנַפְשָׁ֔םnaf.ShamH5315longingמַשָּׂ֣אma.Sa'H4853,their sonsבְּנֵיהֶ֖םbe.nei.HemH1121and their daughtersוּבְנוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃u.ve.no.tei.HemH1323,

26that on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117the one whoH6412escapesH6412will comeיָב֥וֹאya.Vo'H935to you with informationלְהַשְׁמָע֖וּתle.hash.ma.'UtH2045for yourearsאָזְנָֽיִם׃'a.ze.Na.yimH241?

27On that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117yourmouthפִּ֙יךָ֙pi.khaH6310will be openedיִפָּ֤תַחyi.Pa.tachH6605to him whoH6412escapedH6412,and you will speakוּתְדַבֵּ֕רu.te.da.BerH1696and noוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808longerע֑וֹדodH5750be silencedתֵֽאָלֵ֖םte.'a.LemH481.So you will be a signלְמוֹפֵ֔תle.mo.FetH4159to them, and they will knowוְיָדְע֖וּve.ya.de.'UH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.’”
