2“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,askח֥וּדchudH2330a riddleחִידָ֖הchi.DahH2420and presentוּמְשֹׁ֣לu.me.SholH4911aparableמָשָׁ֑לma.ShalH4912to the houseבֵּ֖יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

3sayingוְאָמַרְתָּ֞ve.'a.mar.TaH559, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַ֣ר׀'a.MarH559: “A greatהַגָּדוֹל֙ha.ga.dOlH1419eagleהַנֶּ֤שֶׁרha.Ne.sherH5404withgreatגְּד֤וֹלge.DolH1419wingsהַכְּנָפַ֙יִם֙ha.ke.na.Fa.yimH3671,longאֶ֣רֶךְ'E.rekhH750pinionsהָאֵ֔בֶרha.'E.verH83,and a fullמָלֵא֙ma.Le'H4392plumageהַנּוֹצָ֔הha.no.TzahH5133of manyH7553colorsH7553cameבָּ֚אba'H935toLebanonהַלְּבָנ֔וֹןha.le.va.NonH3844and tookוַיִּקַּ֖חvai.yi.KachH3947away the topצַמֶּ֥רֶתtza.Me.retH6788of thecedarהָאָֽרֶז׃ha.'A.rezH730.

4He brokeH6998offH6998thetopmostרֹ֥אשׁroshH7218of its youngH3242twigsH3242and broughtוַיְבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙vay.vi.'E.huH935it to a landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of merchantsכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667;he setשָׂמֽוֹ׃sa.MoH7760it in acityבְּעִ֥ירbe.'IrH5892of tradersרֹכְלִ֖יםro.khe.LimH7402.

5He also tookH3947from the seedמִזֶּ֣רַעmi.Ze.ra'H2233of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776and plantedוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּvai.yi.te.Ne.huH5414it infertileזָ֑רַעZa.ra'H2233soilבִּשְׂדֵה־bis.deh-H7704, ameadowH6985besideעַל־'al-H5921abundantרַבִּ֔יםra.BimH7227watersמַ֣יִםMa.yimH4325;he setשָׂמֽוֹ׃sa.MoH7760it like awillowצַפְצָפָ֖הtzaf.tza.FahH6851.

6Then it sproutedוַיִּצְמַ֡חvai.yitz.MachH6779and becameוַיְהִי֩vay.HiH1961a lowשִׁפְלַ֣ת קוֹמָ֗הshif.Lat ko.MahH8217 H6967,spreadingסֹרַ֜חַתso.Ra.chatH5628vineלְגֶ֨פֶןle.Ge.fenH1612with its branchesדָּלִיּוֹתָיו֙da.li.yo.TavH1808turnedלִפְנ֤וֹתlif.NotH6437towardאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413him, but its rootsוְשָׁרָשָׁ֖יוve.sha.ra.ShavH8328remainedיִֽהְי֑וּyih.YuH1961underתַּחְתָּ֣יוtach.TavH8478it. So it becameוַתְּהִ֣יva.te.HiH1961a vineלְגֶ֔פֶןle.Ge.fenH1612and producedוַתַּ֣עַשׂva.Ta.'asH6213shootsH909and sentH7971outH7971branchesפֹּארֽוֹת׃po.RotH6288.

7“But there wasanotherאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259greatגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419eagleנֶֽשֶׁר־ne.sher-H5404with greatגְּד֥וֹלge.DolH1419wingsכְּנָפַ֖יִםke.na.Fa.yimH3671and muchוְרַב־ve.rav-H7227plumageנוֹצָ֑הno.TzahH5133;and beholdוְהִנֵּה֩ve.hi.NehH2009,thisH2088vineהַגֶּ֨פֶןha.Ge.fenH1612turnedכָּֽפְנָ֧הka.fe.NahH3719its rootsשָׁרֳשֶׁ֣יהָsho.ro.Shei.haH8328towardעָלָ֗יו'a.LavH5921him and sentH7971outH7971its branchesוְדָֽלִיּוֹתָיו֙ve.da.li.yo.TavH1808toward him from the bedsמֵעֲרֻג֖וֹתme.'a.ru.GotH6170whereH4302it wasplantedמַטָּעָֽהּ׃ma.ta.'AhH4302,so that he might waterלְהַשְׁק֣וֹתle.hash.KotH8248it.

8It was plantedשְׁתוּלָ֑הshe.tu.LahH8362in goodטּ֛וֹבTovH2896soilשָׂ֥דֶהSa.dehH7704besideH413abundantרַבִּ֖יםra.BimH7227watersמַ֥יִםMa.yimH4325,so that it would produceלַעֲשׂ֤וֹתla.'a.SotH6213branchesעָנָף֙'a.NafH6057and bearוְלָשֵׂ֣אתve.la.SetH5375fruitפֶּ֔רִיPe.riH6529, andbecomeלִהְי֖וֹתlih.YotH1961a splendidאַדָּֽרֶת׃ ס'a.Da.retH155vineלְגֶ֥פֶןle.Ge.fenH1612.”’

9Sayאֱמֹ֗ר'e.MorH559, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֛ר'a.MarH559: “Will it thriveתִּצְלָ֑חtitz.LachH6743?Will he not pullיְנַתֵּ֜קye.na.TekH5423upH5423its rootsשָׁרָשֶׁ֨יהָsha.ra.Shei.haH8328and cutH7082offH7082its fruitפִּרְיָ֣הּ׀pir.YahH6529,so that it withersוְיָבֵ֗שׁve.ya.VeshH3001--so that allכָּל־kol-H3605its sproutingצִמְחָהּ֙tzim.ChahH6780shootsH2964witherתִּיבָ֔שׁti.VashH3001?And neitherהֲלוֹא֩ha.lO'H3808by greatגְּדוֹלָה֙ge.do.LahH1419strengthבִזְרֹ֤עַviz.Ro.a'H2220norוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808by manyרָ֔בRavH7227peopleוּבְעַם־u.ve.'am-H5971can it be raisedלְמַשְׂא֥וֹתle.mas.'otH5375from its rootsמִשָּׁרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃mi.sha.ra.Shei.haH8328again.

10Beholdוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009,though it is plantedשְׁתוּלָ֖הshe.tu.LahH8362,will it thriveהֲתִצְלָ֑חha.titz.LachH6743? Will it notcompletelyתִּיבַ֣שׁti.VashH3001witherיָבֹ֔שׁya.VoshH3001as soon as the eastהַקָּדִים֙ha.ka.DimH6921windר֤וּחַRu.achH7307strikesכְגַ֨עַתkhe.Ga.'atH5060it--witherתִּיבָֽשׁ׃ פti.VashH3001on the bedsעֲרֻגֹ֥ת'a.ru.GotH6170whereH6780it grewH6780?”’”

11Moreover, the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

12“Sayאֱמָר־'e.mor-H559nowנָא֙na'H4994to therebelliousהַמֶּ֔רִיha.Me.riH4805houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004, ‘Do you notknowיְדַעְתֶּ֖םye.da'.TemH3045whatמָה־mah-H4100theseH428thingsאֵ֑לֶּה'E.lehH428mean?’Sayאֱמֹ֗ר'e.MorH559, ‘Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009, thekingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶ֤לba.VelH894cameבָ֨אva'H935to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ye.ru.sha.LimH3389,tookוַיִּקַּ֤חvai.yi.KachH3947its kingמַלְכָּהּ֙mal.KahH4428and leadersשָׂרֶ֔יהָsa.Rei.haH8269,and broughtוַיָּבֵ֥אvai.ya.Ve'H935them to him in Babylonבָּבֶֽלָה׃ba.Ve.lahH894.

13Then he tookוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947one of the royalהַמְּלוּכָ֔הha.me.lu.KhahH4410familyמִזֶּ֣רַעmi.Ze.ra'H2233and madeוַיִּכְרֹ֥תvai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֑יתbe.RitH1285with him,puttingוַיָּבֵ֤אvai.ya.Ve'H935him underoathבְּאָלָ֔הbe.'a.LahH423.He also tookלָקָֽח׃la.KachH3947away themightyאֵילֵ֥י'ei.LeiH352of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,

14so that the kingdomמַמְלָכָ֣הmam.la.KhahH4467wouldbe humbledשְׁפָלָ֔הshe.fa.LahH8217,not exaltingהִתְנַשֵּׂ֑אhit.na.Se'H5375itself, butkeepingלִשְׁמֹ֥רlish.MorH8104his covenantבְּרִית֖וֹbe.ri.ToH1285so that it might continueלְעָמְדָֽהּ׃le.'a.me.DahH5975.

15But herevoltedוַיִּמְרָד־vai.yim.rod-H4775againsthim by sendingלִשְׁלֹ֤חַlish.Lo.achH7971his messengersמַלְאָכָיו֙mal.'a.KhavH4397to Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714so that they might giveלָֽתֶת־la.tet-H5414him horsesסוּסִ֖יםsu.SimH5483and manyרָ֑בRavH7227troopsוְעַם־ve.'am-H5971.Will he succeedהֲיִצְלָ֤חha.yitz.LachH6743?Will he who doesהָעֹשֵׂ֣הha.'o.SehH6213theseH428thingsאֵ֔לֶּה'E.lehH428escapeהֲיִמָּלֵט֙ha.yi.ma.LetH4422?Can he indeed breakוְהֵפֵ֥רve.he.FerH6565the covenantבְּרִ֖יתbe.RitH1285and escapeוְנִמְלָֽט׃ve.nim.LatH4422?

16As I liveחַי־chai-H2416,’declaresנְאֻם֮ne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068, ‘In thecountryבִּמְקוֹם֙bim.kOmH4725of the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428whoputH4427him on the throneH4427,whoseאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834oathאָ֣לָת֔וֹ'a.la.ToH423hedespisedבָּזָה֙ba.ZahH959and whoseוַאֲשֶׁ֥רva.'a.SherH834covenantבְּרִית֑וֹbe.ri.ToH1285he brokeהֵפֵ֖רhe.FerH6565,in Babylonבָּבֶ֖לba.VelH894he shall certainlyאִם־ לֹ֗א'im- Lo'H518 H3808dieיָמֽוּת׃ya.MutH4191.

17Pharaohפַרְעֹה֙far.'OhH6547with hismightyגָּד֜וֹלga.DolH1419armyבְחַ֨יִלve.Cha.yilH2428and greatרָ֗בRavH7227contingentוּבְקָהָ֣לu.ve.ka.HalH6951will nothelpיַעֲשֶׂ֨הya.'a.SehH6213him in the warבַּמִּלְחָמָ֔הba.mil.cha.MahH4421,when they pileH8210upH8210assaultH5550rampsH5550and buildוּבִבְנ֣וֹתu.viv.NotH1129siegeH1785wallsH1785to eliminateלְהַכְרִ֖יתle.hakh.RitH3772manyרַבּֽוֹת׃ra.BotH7227livesנְפָשׁ֥וֹתne.fa.ShotH5315.

18Now he despisedוּבָזָ֥הu.va.ZahH959the oathאָלָ֖ה'a.LahH423by breakingלְהָפֵ֣רle.ha.FerH6565the covenantבְּרִ֑יתbe.RitH1285,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009, hepledgedנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414his allegianceיָד֛וֹya.DoH3027,yet didעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605theseH428thingsאֵ֥לֶּה'E.lehH428;he shall not escapeיִמָּלֵֽט׃ סyi.ma.LetH4422.’”

19Thereforeלָכֵ֞ןla.KhenH3651,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֨ר'a.MarH559: “As I liveחַי־chai-H2416,My oathאָֽלָתִי֙'a.la.TiH423whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he despisedבָּזָ֔הba.ZahH959and My covenantוּבְרִיתִ֖יu.ve.ri.TiH1285whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he brokeH6565,I will certainlyאִם־ לֹ֗א'im- Lo'H518 H3808inflictוּנְתַתִּ֖יוu.ne.ta.TivH5414on his headבְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃be.ro.ShoH7218.

20And I will spreadוּפָרַשְׂתִּ֤יu.fa.ras.TiH6566Mynetרִשְׁתִּ֔יrish.TiH7568overעָלָיו֙'a.LavH5921him, and he will becaughtוְנִתְפַּ֖שׂve.nit.PasH8610in My netבִּמְצֽוּדָתִ֑יbim.tzu.da.TiH4686.Then I will bringוַהֲבִיאוֹתִ֣יהוּva.ha.vi.'o.Ti.huH935him to Babylonבָבֶ֗לָהva.Ve.lahH894andenterוְנִשְׁפַּטְתִּ֤יve.nish.pa.TiH8199intoH8199judgmentH8199with him thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033regardingthe unfaithfulH4603 H4604actH4604whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he has committedH4603against Me.

21Allכָּל־kol-H3605thechoiceH4005menH4005in allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605his troopsאֲגַפָּיו֙'a.ga.PavH102will fallיִפֹּ֔לוּyi.Po.luH5307by the swordבַּחֶ֣רֶבba.Che.revH2719,and the survivorsוְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖יםve.ha.nish.'a.RimH7604will be scatteredיִפָּרֵ֑שׂוּyi.pa.Re.suH6566to everyלְכָל־le.kholH3605windר֣וּחַRu.achH7307;and you will knowוִידַעְתֶּ֕םvi.da'.TemH3045that I, the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,have spokenדִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃ סdi.Bar.tiH1696.”

22ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: “I will also takeוְלָקַ֣חְתִּיve.la.Kach.tiH3947a sprigfrom the loftyהָרָמָ֖הha.ra.MahH7311topמִצַּמֶּ֧רֶתmi.tza.Me.retH6788of the cedarהָאֶ֛רֶזha.'E.rezH730andsetוְנָתָ֑תִּיve.na.Ta.tiH5414itout; I will breakH6998offH6998from the topmostמֵרֹ֤אשׁme.RoshH7218of its youngיֹֽנְקוֹתָיו֙yo.ne.ko.TavH3127twigsH3127a tenderרַ֣ךְrakhH7390oneH7390,and I will plantוְשָׁתַ֣לְתִּיve.sha.Tal.tiH8362it on ahighגָּבֹ֖הַga.Vo.haH1364and loftyH8519mountainהַר־har-H2022.

23On the highמְר֤וֹםme.RomH4791mountainבְּהַ֨רbe.HarH2022of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478I will plantאֶשְׁתֳּלֶ֔נּוּ'esh.to.Le.nuH8362it, so that it may bringH5375forthH5375branchesעָנָף֙'a.NafH6057and bearוְעָ֣שָׂהve.'A.sahH6213fruitפֶ֔רִיFe.riH6529,and becomeוְהָיָ֖הve.ha.YahH1961a statelyאַדִּ֑יר'a.DirH117cedarלְאֶ֣רֶזle.'E.rezH730. Andbirdsצִפּ֣וֹרtzi.PorH6833of everyH3605kindכָּנָ֔ףka.NafH3671willnestוְשָׁכְנ֣וּve.sha.khe.NuH7931underתַחְתָּ֗יוtach.TavH8478it; they willnestתִּשְׁכֹּֽנָּה׃tish.Ko.nahH7931in the shadeבְּצֵ֥לbe.TzelH6738of its branchesדָּלִיּוֹתָ֖יוda.li.yo.TavH1808.

24Allכָּל־kol-H3605thetreesעֲצֵ֣י'a.TzeiH6086of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֗הha.sa.DehH7704will knowוְֽיָדְע֞וּve.ya.de.'UH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068;I bringהִשְׁפַּ֣לְתִּי׀hish.Pal.tiH8213downH8213the highגָּבֹ֗הַga.Vo.haH1364treeעֵ֣ץ'etzH6086,exaltהִגְבַּ֙הְתִּי֙hig.Bah.tiH1361the lowשָׁפָ֔לsha.FalH8217treeעֵ֣ץ'etzH6086,dryהוֹבַ֙שְׁתִּי֙ho.Vash.tiH3001upH3001the greenלָ֔חLachH3892treeעֵ֣ץ'etzH6086,and make the dryיָבֵ֑שׁya.VeshH3002treeעֵ֣ץ'etzH6086flourishוְהִפְרַ֖חְתִּיve.hif.Rach.tiH6524.I am the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068;I have spokenדִּבַּ֥רְתִּיdi.Bar.tiH1696,and I will performוְעָשִֽׂיתִי׃ פve.'a.Si.tiH6213it.”
