Ezekiel Prepares for Exile

1Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,you liveיֹשֵׁ֑בyo.ShevH3427in themidstבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432of therebelliousהַמֶּ֖רִיha.Me.riH4805houseבֵּית־beit-H1004,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834have eyesעֵינַיִם֩'ei.na.YimH5869to seeלִרְא֜וֹתlir.'otH7200but do not seeרָא֗וּra.'UH7200,earsאָזְנַ֨יִם'a.ze.Na.yimH241to hearלִשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙lish.Mo.a'H8085but do not hearשָׁמֵ֔עוּsha.Me.'uH8085;for they are a rebelliousמְרִ֖יme.RiH4805houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.

3So as for you, sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָ֗ם'a.DamH120,prepareעֲשֵׂ֤ה'a.SehH6213for yourself baggageכְּלֵ֣יke.LeiH3627for exileגוֹלָ֔הgo.LahH1473and goוּגְלֵ֥הu.ge.LehH1540intoH1540exileוְגָלִ֨יתָve.ga.Li.taH1540by dayיוֹמָ֖םyo.MamH3119in their sightלְעֵֽינֵיהֶ֑םle.'ei.nei.HemH5869;that is, goH1540intoH1540exileH1540from your placeמִמְּקוֹמְךָ֜mi.me.kom.ChaH4725to anotherאַחֵר֙'a.CherH312placeמָק֤וֹםma.KomH4725in their sightלְעֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔םle.'Ei.nei.HemH5869.Perhapsאוּלַ֣י'u.LaiH194they willunderstandיִרְא֔וּyir.'UH7200,thoughכִּ֛יkiH3588they are a rebelliousמְרִ֖יme.RiH4805houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.

4Bringוְהוֹצֵאתָ֨ve.ho.tze.TaH3318your baggageכֵלֶ֜יךָkhe.Lei.khaH3627outH3318by dayיוֹמָ֖םyo.MamH3119in their sightלְעֵֽינֵיהֶ֑םle.'ei.nei.HemH5869,as baggageכִּכְלֵ֥יkikh.LeiH3627for exileגוֹלָ֛הgo.LahH1473.Then you shall goתֵּצֵ֤אte.Tze'H3318outH3318at eveningבָעֶ֙רֶב֙va.'E.revH6153in their sightלְעֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔םle.'Ei.nei.HemH5869,as those who are goingכְּמוֹצָאֵ֖יke.mo.tza.'EiH4161into exileגּוֹלָֽה׃go.LahH1473.

5Digחֲתָר־cha.tor-H2864a hole through the wallבַקִּ֑ירva.KirH7023in their sightלְעֵינֵיהֶ֖םle.'ei.nei.HemH5869andgoH3318outH3318through it.

6Loadתִּשָּׂא֙ti.Sa'H5375the baggage on yourshoulderכָּתֵ֤ףka.TefH3802in their sightלְעֵ֨ינֵיהֶ֜םle.'Ei.nei.HemH5869andcarryH3318itoutH3318in the darkבָּעֲלָטָ֣הba.'a.la.TahH5939. You shallcoverתְכַסֶּ֔הte.kha.SehH3680your faceפָּנֶ֣יךָpa.Nei.khaH6440so that you cannotוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808seeתִרְאֶ֖הtir.'EhH7200the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,for I have setנְתַתִּ֖יךָne.ta.Ti.khaH5414you as asignמוֹפֵ֥תmo.FetH4159to the houseלְבֵ֥יתle.VeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”

7Then Ididוָאַ֣עַשׂva.'A.'asH6213soכֵּן֮kenH3651,justH3512asH3512I had been commandedצֻוֵּיתִי֒tzu.vei.TiH6680.By dayיוֹמָ֔םyo.MamH3119IbroughtH3318outH3318my baggageכֵּ֠לַיKe.laiH3627like the baggageכִּכְלֵ֤יkikh.LeiH3627of an exileגוֹלָה֙go.LahH1473.Then in the eveningוּבָעֶ֛רֶבu.va.'E.revH6153I dugחָתַֽרְתִּי־cha.tar.ti-H2864through the wallבַקִּ֖ירva.KirH7023with my handsבְּיָ֑דbe.YadH3027;I wentH3318outH3318in the darkבָּעֲלָטָ֥הba.'a.la.TahH5939andcarriedנָשָׂ֖אתִיna.Sa.tiH5375the baggage on myshoulderכָּתֵ֥ףka.TefH3802in their sightלְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ פle.'ei.nei.HemH5869.

8And in the morningבַּבֹּ֥קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֧יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

9“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,has the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478, therebelliousהַמֶּ֑רִיha.Me.riH4805houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004,not saidאָמְר֥וּ'a.me.RuH559to you, ‘Whatמָ֖הmahH4100are you doingעֹשֶֽׂה׃'o.SehH6213?’

10Sayאֱמֹ֣ר'e.MorH559to them, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559: “Thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088pronouncementהַמַּשָּׂ֤אha.ma.Sa'H4853concernsthe princeהַנָּשִׂ֞יאha.na.Si'H5387in Jerusalemבִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םbi.Ru.sha.LamH3389as well as allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834are in it.”’

11Sayאֱמֹ֖ר'e.MorH559, ‘I am asignמֽוֹפֶתְכֶ֑םmo.fet.KhemH4159to you. JustH3512asH3512I have doneעָשִׂ֗יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213,soכֵּ֚ןkenH3651it will be doneיֵעָשֶׂ֣הye.'a.SehH6213to them; they willgoיֵלֵֽכוּ׃ye.Le.khuH1980into exileבַּגּוֹלָ֥הba.go.LahH1473,into captivityבַשְּׁבִ֖יva.she.ViH7628.’

12Theprinceוְהַנָּשִׂ֨יאve.ha.na.Si'H5387whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is amongבְּתוֹכָ֜םbe.to.KhamH8432them will loadיִשָּׂא֙yi.Sa'H5375his baggage on hisshoulderכָּתֵ֤ףka.TefH3802in the darkבָּעֲלָטָ֣הba.'a.la.TahH5939and goוְיֵצֵ֔אve.ye.Tze'H3318outH3318.They will digיַחְתְּר֖וּyach.te.RuH2864a hole through the wallבַּקִּ֥ירba.KirH7023to bringלְה֣וֹצִיאle.Ho.tzi'H3318itoutH3318through it. He will coverיְכַסֶּ֔הye.kha.SehH3680his faceפָּנָ֣יוpa.NavH6440soיַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֨רYa.'an 'a.SherH3282 H834that he cannot seeיִרְאֶ֥הyir.'EhH7200the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776with hiseyesלַעַ֛יִןla.'A.yinH5869.

13I will also spreadוּפָרַשְׂתִּ֤יu.fa.ras.TiH6566Mynetרִשְׁתִּי֙rish.TiH7568overעָלָ֔יו'a.LavH5921him, and he will be caughtוְנִתְפַּ֖שׂve.nit.PasH8610in My netבִּמְצֽוּדָתִ֑יbim.tzu.da.TiH4686.And I will bringוְהֵבֵאתִ֨יve.he.ve.TiH935him to Babylonבָבֶ֙לָה֙va.Ve.lahH894in the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Chaldeansכַּשְׂדִּ֔יםkas.DimH3778; yet he willnot seeיִרְאֶ֖הyir.'EhH7200it, though he will dieיָמֽוּת׃ya.MutH4191thereוְשָׁ֥םve.ShamH8033.

14And I willscatterאֱזָרֶ֣ה'e.za.RehH2219to everyוְכֹל֩ve.KholH3605windר֑וּחַRu.achH7307allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834are aroundסְבִיבֹתָ֥יוse.vi.vo.TavH5439him, his helpersעֶזְר֛וֹez.roH5828and allלְכָל־le.kholH3605his troopsאֲגַפָּ֖יו'a.ga.PavH102;and I will drawH7385outH7385a swordוְחֶ֖רֶבve.Che.revH2719afterאַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃'a.cha.rei.HemH310them.

15So they willknowוְיָדְע֖וּve.ya.de.'UH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,when I disperseבַּהֲפִיצִ֤יba.ha.fi.TziH6327them among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֔םba.go.YimH1471and scatterוְזֵרִיתִ֥יve.ze.ri.TiH2219them among the countriesבָּאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ba.'a.ra.TzotH776.

16But I willspareוְהוֹתַרְתִּ֤יve.ho.tar.TiH3498a fewמִסְפָּ֔רmis.ParH4557of them from theswordמֵחֶ֖רֶבme.Che.revH2719,the famineמֵרָעָ֣בme.ra.'AvH7458,and plagueוּמִדָּ֑בֶרu.mi.Da.verH1698soלְמַ֨עַןle.Ma.'anH4616thatH4616they may tellיְסַפְּר֜וּye.sa.pe.RuH5608of allכָּל־kol-H3605their abominationsתּוֹעֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶ֗םto.'a.vo.tei.HemH8441among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִם֙ba.go.YimH1471whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֔ם'a.Sher- ShamH834 H8033they goבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935, and mayknowוְיָדְע֖וּve.ya.de.'UH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.”

17Moreover, the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

18“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,eatתֹּאכֵ֑לto.KhelH398your breadלַחְמְךָ֖lach.me.KhaH3899with tremblingבְּרַ֣עַשׁbe.Ra.'ashH7494,and drinkתִּשְׁתֶּֽה׃tish.TehH8354your waterוּמֵימֶ֕יךָu.mei.Mei.khaH4325with quiveringבְּרָגְזָ֥הbe.ra.ge.ZahH7269and anxietyוּבִדְאָגָ֖הu.vid.'a.GahH1674.

19Then sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ve.'a.mar.TaH559to the peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971of the landהָאָ֡רֶץha.'A.retzH776, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֨י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֩'a.MarH559concerning the inhabitantsלְיוֹשְׁבֵ֤יle.yo.she.VeiH3427of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ye.ru.sha.LimH3389in the landאַדְמַ֣ת'ad.MatH127of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478: “They will eatיֹאכֵ֔לוּyo.Khe.luH398their breadלַחְמָם֙lach.MamH3899with anxietyבִּדְאָגָ֣הbid.'a.GahH1674and drinkיִשְׁתּ֑וּyish.TuH8354their waterוּמֵֽימֵיהֶ֖םu.mei.mei.HemH4325with horrorבְּשִׁמָּמ֣וֹןbe.shi.ma.MonH8078,becauseלְמַ֜עַןle.Ma.'anH4616their landאַרְצָהּ֙'ar.TzahH776will bestrippedH8074of its fullnessמִמְּלֹאָ֔הּmi.me.lo.'AhH4393on accountH6440of the violenceמֵחֲמַ֖סme.cha.MasH2555of allכָּֽל־kal-H3605who liveהַיֹּשְׁבִ֥יםhai.yo.she.VimH3427in it.

20The inhabitedהַנּֽוֹשָׁבוֹת֙ha.no.sha.VotH3427citiesוְהֶעָרִ֤יםve.he.'a.RimH5892will be in ruinsתֶּחֱרַ֔בְנָהte.che.Rav.nahH2717, and thelandוְהָאָ֖רֶץve.ha.'A.retzH776will be a desolationשְׁמָמָ֣הshe.ma.MahH8077.So you will knowוִֽידַעְתֶּ֖םvi.da'.TemH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.”’”

21Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

22“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֗ם'a.DamH120,whatמָֽה־mah-H4100is thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088proverbהַמָּשָׁ֤לha.ma.ShalH4912you peoplehave aboutעַל־'al-H5921the landאַדְמַ֥ת'ad.MatH127of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, ‘Thedaysהַיָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117are longיַֽאַרְכוּ֙ya.'ar.KhuH748,and everyכָּל־kol-H3605visionחָזֽוֹן׃cha.ZonH2377failsוְאָבַ֖דve.'a.VadH6’?

23Thereforeלָכֵ֞ןla.KhenH3651sayאֱמֹ֣ר'e.MorH559to them, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֮'a.MarH559: “I will putH7673anH7673endH7673toH7673thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088proverbהַמָּשָׁ֣לha.ma.ShalH4912so that they will noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֖וֹדodH5750useH4911it asH4911aH4911proverbיִמְשְׁל֥וּyim.she.LuH4911in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”But tellדַּבֵּ֣רda.BerH1696them, “The daysהַיָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117are approachingקָֽרְבוּ֙ka.re.VuH7126as well as thefulfillmentוּדְבַ֖רu.de.VarH1697of everyכָּל־kol-H3605visionחָזֽוֹן׃cha.ZonH2377.

24For there will noלֹ֣אlo'H3808longerע֛וֹדodH5750be anyכָּל־kol-H3605falseשָׁ֖וְאshav'H7723visionחֲז֥וֹןcha.ZonH2377or deceptiveחָלָ֑קcha.LakH2509divinationוּמִקְסַ֣םu.mik.SamH4738withinבְּת֖וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

25For I the LordH3068will speakאֲדַבֵּר֙'a.da.BerH1696whateverאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834wordדָּבָר֙da.VarH1697I speakאֲדַבֵּ֤ר'a.da.BerH1696,and it will be performedוְיֵ֣עָשֶׂ֔הve.Ye.'a.SehH6213.It will noלֹ֥אlo'H3808longerע֑וֹדodH5750be delayedתִמָּשֵׁ֖ךְti.ma.ShekhH4900, for inyour daysבִֽימֵיכֶ֞םvi.mei.KhemH3117, yourebelliousהַמֶּ֗רִיha.Me.riH4805houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004,I will speakאֲדַבֵּ֤ר'a.da.BerH1696the wordדָּבָר֙da.VarH1697and performוַעֲשִׂיתִ֔יוva.'a.si.TivH6213it,” declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.’”

26Furthermore, the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

27“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֗ם'a.DamH120,beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,the houseבֵֽית־veit-H1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478is sayingאֹֽמְרִ֔ים'o.me.RimH559, ‘The visionהֶחָז֛וֹןhe.cha.ZonH2377that he seesחֹזֶ֖הcho.ZehH2372is formanyרַבִּ֑יםra.BimH7227yearsלְיָמִ֣יםle.ya.MimH3117from now,and he prophesiesנִבָּֽא׃ni.Ba'H5012of timesוּלְעִתִּ֥יםu.le.'i.TimH6256farH7350offH7350.’

28Thereforeלָכֵ֞ןla.KhenH3651sayאֱמֹ֣ר'e.MorH559to them, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: “Noneלֹא־lo'-H3808 H3605of My wordsדְּבָרָ֑יde.va.RaiH1697will be delayedתִמָּשֵׁ֥ךְti.ma.ShekhH4900anyH5750longerH5750.Whateverאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH3605 H834wordדָּבָר֙da.VarH1697I speakאֲדַבֵּ֤ר'a.da.BerH1696will be performedוְיֵ֣עָשֶׂ֔הve.Ye.'a.SehH6213,”’”declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.
