Prophecy against the Shepherds of Israel

1Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,prophesyהִנָּבֵ֖אhi.na.Ve'H5012againstעַל־'al-H5921theshepherdsרוֹעֵ֣יro.'EiH7462of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.Prophesyהִנָּבֵ֣אhi.na.Ve'H5012and sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֩ve.'a.mar.TaH559tothose shepherdsלָרֹעִ֜יםla.ro.'ImH7462, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַ֣ר׀'a.MarH559: “Woeה֤וֹיHoH1945,shepherdsרֹעֵֽי־ro.'ei-H7462of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834have beenהָיוּ֙ha.YuH1961feedingרֹעִ֣יםro.'ImH7462themselves! Should the shepherdsיִרְע֖וּyir.'UH7462notfeedהָרֹעִֽים׃ha.ro.'ImH7462the flockהַצֹּ֔אןha.TzonH6629?

3Youeatתֹּאכֵ֙לוּ֙to.Khe.luH398the fatהַחֵ֤לֶבha.Che.levH2459and clotheתִּלְבָּ֔שׁוּtil.Ba.shuH3847yourselvesH3847with the woolהַצֶּ֣מֶרha.Tze.merH6785, youslaughterתִּזְבָּ֑חוּtiz.Ba.chuH2076the fatהַבְּרִיאָ֖הha.be.ri.'AhH1277sheepwithoutלֹ֥אlo'H3808feedingתִרְעֽוּ׃tir.'UH7462the flockהַצֹּ֖אןha.TzonH6629.

4Those who are sicklyהַנַּחְלוֹת֩ha.nach.lOtH2470you have not strengthenedחִזַּקְתֶּ֜םchi.zak.TemH2388,the diseasedהַחוֹלָ֣הha.cho.LahH2470you have not healedרִפֵּאתֶ֗םri.pe.TemH7495,the brokenוְלַנִּשְׁבֶּ֙רֶת֙ve.la.nish.Be.retH7665you have not boundH2280upH2280,the scatteredהַנִּדַּ֙חַת֙ha.ni.Da.chatH5080you have not broughtH7725backהֲשֵׁבֹתֶ֔םha.she.vo.TemH7725,norH3808have yousearchedבִקַּשְׁתֶּ֑םvi.kash.TemH1245for the lostהָאֹבֶ֖דֶתha.'o.Ve.detH6;but with forceוּבְחָזְקָ֛הu.ve.cha.ze.KahH2394and with violenceוּבְפָֽרֶךְ׃u.ve.Fa.rekhH6531you havedominatedרְדִיתֶ֥םre.di.TemH7287them.

5Theyscatteredוַתְּפוּצֶ֖ינָהva.te.fu.Tzei.nahH6327for lackמִבְּלִ֣יmi.be.LiH1097of a shepherdרֹעֶ֑הro.'EhH7462,and they becameוַתִּהְיֶ֧ינָהva.tih.Yei.nahH1961foodלְאָכְלָ֛הle.'okh.LahH402for everyלְכָל־le.kholH3605animalH2421of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֖הha.sa.DehH7704and scatteredוַתְּפוּצֶֽינָה׃va.te.fu.Tzei.nahH6327.

6My flockצֹאנִי֙tzo.NiH6629strayedיִשְׁגּ֤וּyish.GuH7686through allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the mountainsהֶ֣הָרִ֔יםhe.ha.RimH2022and on everyכָּל־kol-H3605highרָמָ֑הra.MahH7311hillגִּבְעָ֣הgiv.'AhH1389;My flockצֹאנִ֔יtzo.NiH6629was scatteredנָפֹ֣צוּna.Fo.tzuH6327overH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605the surfaceפְּנֵ֤יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776,and thereH369wasH369noH369oneH369to searchדּוֹרֵ֖שׁdo.ReshH1875or seekמְבַקֵּֽשׁ׃me.va.KeshH1245for them.”’”

7Thereforeלָכֵ֣ןla.KhenH3651,you shepherdsרֹעִ֔יםro.'ImH7462,hearשִׁמְע֖וּshim.'UH8085the wordדְּבַ֥רde.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068:

8“As I liveH2416,”declaresנְאֻ֣ם׀ne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068, “certainlyאִם־'im-H518 H3808,becauseיַ֣עַןYa.'anH3282My flockצֹאנִ֣י׀tzo.NiH6629has becomeהֱיֽוֹת־he.yot-H1961plunderלָבַ֡זla.VazH957,and My flockצֹאנִ֨יtzo.NiH6629has becomeוַתִּֽהְיֶינָה֩va.tih.yei.NahH1961foodלְאָכְלָ֜הle.'okh.LahH402for allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the animalsH2421of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704for lackמֵאֵ֣יןme.'EinH369of a shepherdרֹעֶ֔הro.'EhH7462,and My shepherdsרֹעַ֖יro.'AiH7462did not searchדָרְשׁ֥וּda.re.ShuH1875for My flockצֹאנִ֑יtzo.NiH6629, but ratherthe shepherdsוַיִּרְע֤וּvai.yir.'UH7462fedהָֽרֹעִים֙ha.ro.'ImH7462themselves and did not feedרָעֽוּ׃ סra.'UH7462My flockצֹאנִ֖יtzo.NiH6629,

9thereforeלָכֵן֙la.KhenH3651,you shepherdsהָֽרֹעִ֔יםha.ro.'ImH7462,hearשִׁמְע֖וּshim.'UH8085the wordדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068:

10‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֞ר'a.MarH559: “BeholdH2009, I amagainstאֶֽל־'el-H413the shepherdsהָרֹעִ֜יםha.ro.'ImH7462,and I will demandוְֽדָרַשְׁתִּ֧יve.da.rash.TiH1875Mysheepצֹאנִ֣יtzo.NiH6629from them and make themstopוְהִשְׁבַּתִּים֙ve.hish.ba.TimH7673tendingמֵרְע֣וֹתme.re.'otH7462sheepצֹ֔אןTzonH6629.So the shepherdsיִרְע֥וּyir.'UH7462will notfeedהָרֹעִ֖יםha.ro.'ImH7462themselves anymoreע֛וֹדodH5750, but I willsaveוְהִצַּלְתִּ֤יve.hi.tzal.TiH5337My sheepצֹאנִי֙tzo.NiH6629from their mouthמִפִּיהֶ֔םmi.pi.HemH6310,so that they will not be foodלְאָכְלָֽה׃ סle.'okh.LahH402for them.”’”

11For the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559thisכֹּ֥הkohH3541: “BeholdH2009,I Myselfאָ֕נִי'A.niH589willsearchוְדָרַשְׁתִּ֥יve.da.rash.TiH1875for My sheepצֹאנִ֖יtzo.NiH6629and lookH1239afterH1239them.

12As a shepherdרֹעֶ֨הro.'EhH7462caresכְּבַקָּרַת֩ke.va.ka.RatH1243for his flockעֶדְר֜וֹed.RoH5739on a dayבְּיוֹם־be.yom-H3117when he is amongבְתוֹךְ־ve.tokh-H8432his scatteredH6566sheepצֹאנוֹ֙tzo.NoH6629,soכֵּ֖ןkenH3651I willcareאֲבַקֵּ֣ר'a.va.KerH1239for Mysheepצֹאנִ֑יtzo.NiH6629and will rescueוְהִצַּלְתִּ֣יve.hi.tzal.TiH5337them from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the placesהַמְּקוֹמֹת֙ha.me.ko.MotH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֔ם'a.Sher ShamH834 H8033they were scatteredנָפֹ֣צוּna.Fo.tzuH6327on acloudyעָנָ֖ן'a.NanH6051and gloomyוַעֲרָפֶֽל׃va.'a.ra.FelH6205dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117.

13I will bringוְהוֹצֵאתִ֣יםve.ho.tze.TimH3318them outH3318from the peoplesהָעַמִּ֗יםha.'a.MimH5971and gatherוְקִבַּצְתִּים֙ve.ki.batz.TimH6908them from the countriesהָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹתha.'a.ra.TzotH776and bringוַהֲבִיאֹתִ֖יםva.ha.vi.'o.TimH935them to their own landאַדְמָתָ֑ם'ad.ma.TamH127; and I willfeedוּרְעִיתִים֙u.re.'i.TimH7462them on the mountainsהָרֵ֣יha.ReiH2022of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478, by thestreamsבָּאֲפִיקִ֕יםba.'a.fi.KimH650,and in allוּבְכֹ֖לu.ve.KholH3605the inhabitedH4186placesH4186of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

14I will feedאֶרְעֶ֣ה'er.'EhH7462them in agoodטּוֹב֙tOvH2896pastureבְּמִרְעֶה־be.mir.'eh-H4829,and their grazingH5116placeH5116will be on the mountainוּבְהָרֵ֥יu.ve.ha.ReiH2022heightsמְרֽוֹם־me.rom-H4791of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.Thereשָׁ֤םshamH8033they will lieתִּרְבַּ֙צְנָה֙tir.Batz.nahH7257downH7257in a goodטּ֔וֹבTovH2896grazingH5116placeH5116and feedתִּרְעֶ֖ינָהtir.'Ei.nahH7462inrichשָׁמֵ֛ןsha.MenH8082pastureוּמִרְעֶ֥הu.mir.'EhH4829on the mountainsהָרֵ֥יha.ReiH2022of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

15I Myselfאֲנִ֨י'a.NiH589willfeedאֶרְעֶ֤ה'er.'EhH7462My flockצֹאנִי֙tzo.NiH6629and I Myselfוַאֲנִ֣יva.'a.NiH589willleadH7257them toH7257restH7257,”declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.

16“I will seekאֲבַקֵּשׁ֙'a.va.KeshH1245the lostהָאֹבֶ֤דֶתha.'o.Ve.detH6,bringאָשִׁ֔יב'a.ShivH7725backH7725the scatteredהַנִּדַּ֣חַתha.ni.Da.chatH5080,bindאֶחֱבֹ֔שׁ'e.che.VoshH2280upH2280the brokenוְלַנִּשְׁבֶּ֣רֶתve.la.nish.Be.retH7665,and strengthenאֲחַזֵּ֑ק'a.cha.ZekH2388the sickהַחוֹלָ֖הha.cho.LahH2470; but thefatהַשְּׁמֵנָ֧הha.she.me.NahH8082and the strongהַחֲזָקָ֛הha.cha.za.KahH2389I will eliminateאַשְׁמִ֖יד'ash.MidH8045. I willfeedאֶרְעֶ֥נָּה'er.'E.nahH7462them with judgmentבְמִשְׁפָּֽט׃ve.mish.PatH4941.

17“As for you, My flockצֹאנִ֔יtzo.NiH6629,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559: ‘BeholdH2009, I am going tojudgeשֹׁפֵט֙sho.FetH8199betweenבֵּֽין־bein-H996onesheepשֶׂ֣הsehH7716and anotherלָשֶׂ֔הla.SehH7716,between the ramsלָאֵילִ֖יםla.'ei.LimH352and the maleוְלָעַתּוּדִֽים׃ve.la.'a.tu.DimH6260goatsH6260.

18Is it tooH4480littleהַמְעַ֣טham.'AtH4592a thingH4592for you to feedתִּרְע֔וּtir.'UH7462in the goodהַטּוֹב֙ha.tOvH2896pastureהַמִּרְעֶ֤הha.mir.'EhH4829,that you must trampleתִּרְמְס֖וּtir.me.SuH7429with your feetבְּרַגְלֵיכֶ֑םbe.rag.lei.KhemH7272the restוְיֶ֙תֶר֙ve.Ye.terH3499of your pasturesמִרְעֵיכֶ֔םmir.'ei.KhemH4829? Or too little for youto drinkתִּשְׁתּ֔וּtish.TuH8354the clearוּמִשְׁקַע־u.mish.ka'-H4950watersמַ֣יִםMa.yimH4325,that you must muddyH7511the restהַנּ֣וֹתָרִ֔יםha.No.ta.RimH3498with your feetבְּרַגְלֵיכֶ֖םbe.rag.lei.KhemH7272?

19But as for My flockוְצֹאנִ֑יve.tzo.NiH6629,they must eatתִּרְעֶ֔ינָהtir.'Ei.nahH7462whatH4823you trampleH4823with your feetרַגְלֵיכֶם֙rag.lei.KhemH7272,and drinkתִּשְׁתֶּֽינָה׃ סtish.Tei.nahH8354whatH4833you muddyH4833with your feetרַגְלֵיכֶ֖םrag.lei.KhemH7272!’”

20Thereforeלָכֵ֗ןla.KhenH3651,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַ֛ר'a.MarH559to them: “BeholdH2009,I, I Myselfאָ֕נִי'A.niH589will also judgeוְשָֽׁפַטְתִּי֙ve.sha.fa.TiH8199betweenH996the fatH1277sheepשֶׂ֣הsehH7716and the leanרָזָֽה׃ra.ZahH7330sheepשֶׂ֖הsehH7716.

21Sinceיַ֗עַןYa.'anH3282you pushתֶּהְדֹּ֔פוּteh.Do.fuH1920awayH1920with yoursideבְּצַ֤דbe.TzadH6654and shoulderוּבְכָתֵף֙u.ve.kha.TefH3802, andgoreתְּנַגְּח֖וּte.na.ge.ChuH5055allכָּל־kol-H3605theweakהַנַּחְל֑וֹתha.nach.LotH2470with your hornsוּבְקַרְנֵיכֶ֥םu.ve.kar.nei.KhemH7161untilעַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֧ר'ad 'a.SherH5704 H834you have scatteredהֲפִיצוֹתֶ֛םha.fi.tzo.TemH6327themabroadהַחֽוּצָה׃ha.Chu.tzahH2351,

22therefore, I willsaveוְהוֹשַׁעְתִּ֣יve.ho.sha'.TiH3467My flockלְצֹאנִ֔יle.tzo.NiH6629,and they will noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֖וֹדodH5750be plunderלָבַ֑זla.VazH957;and I will judgeוְשָׁ֣פַטְתִּ֔יve.Sha.fa.TiH8199betweenבֵּ֥יןbeinH996one sheepשֶׂ֖הsehH7716and anotherלָשֶֽׂה׃la.SehH7716.

23“Then I willappointוַהֲקִמֹתִ֨יva.ha.ki.mo.TiH6965overעֲלֵיהֶ֜ם'a.lei.HemH5921them oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259shepherdרֹעֶ֤הro.'EhH7462,My servantעַבְדִּ֣י'av.DiH5650Davidדָוִ֑ידda.VidH1732,and he will feedוְרָעָ֣הve.ra.'AhH7462them; he will feedיִרְעֶ֣הyir.'EhH7462them himselfH1931and be their shepherdלְרֹעֶֽה׃le.ro.'EhH7462.

24And I, the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,will be their Godלֵֽאלֹהִ֔יםle.lo.HimH430,and My servantוְעַבְדִּ֥יve.'av.DiH5650Davidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732will be princeנָשִׂ֣יאna.Si'H5387amongבְתוֹכָ֑םve.to.KhamH8432them; I the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068have spokenדִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃di.Bar.tiH1696.

25“And I will makeוְכָרַתִּ֤יve.kha.ra.TiH3772acovenantבְּרִ֣יתbe.RitH1285of peaceשָׁל֔וֹםsha.LomH7965with them andeliminateוְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֥יve.hish.ba.TiH7673harmfulרָעָ֖הra.'AhH7451animalsH2421from the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776, so that they mayliveוְיָשְׁב֤וּve.ya.she.VuH3427securelyלָבֶ֔טַחla.Ve.tachH983in the wildernessבַמִּדְבָּר֙va.mid.BarH4057and sleepוְיָשְׁנ֖וּve.ya.she.NuH3462in the woodsבַּיְּעָרִֽים׃bai.ye.'a.RimH3293.

26I will makeוְנָתַתִּ֥יve.na.ta.TiH5414them and the placesH5439aroundH5439My hillגִּבְעָתִ֖יgiv.'a.TiH1389ablessingבְּרָכָ֑הbe.ra.KhahH1293. And I will makeshowersהַגֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ha.Ge.shemH1653fallוְהוֹרַדְתִּ֤יve.ho.rad.TiH3381in their seasonבְּעִתּ֔וֹbe.'i.ToH6256;they will be showersגִּשְׁמֵ֥יgish.MeiH1653ofblessingבְרָכָ֖הve.ra.KhahH1293.

27Also the treeעֵ֨ץ'etzH6086of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֜הha.sa.DehH7704will yieldוְנָתַן֩ve.na.TanH5414its fruitפִּרְי֗וֹpir.YoH6529and the earthוְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ve.ha.'A.retzH776will yieldתִּתֵּ֣ןti.TenH5414its produceיְבוּלָ֔הּye.vu.LahH2981, and they will besecureלָבֶ֑טַחla.Ve.tachH983on their landאַדְמָתָ֖ם'ad.ma.TamH127.Then they will knowוְֽיָדְע֞וּve.ya.de.'UH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, when I havebrokenבְּשִׁבְרִי֙be.shiv.RiH7665the barsמֹט֣וֹתmo.TotH4133of their yokeעֻלָּ֔ם'u.LamH5923and have savedוְהִ֨צַּלְתִּ֔יםve.Hi.tzal.TimH5337them from the handמִיַּ֖דmi.YadH3027of those who enslavedהָעֹבְדִ֥יםha.'oe.DimH5647them.

28They will noH3808longerע֥וֹדodH5750be plunderבַּז֙bazH957to the nationsלַגּוֹיִ֔םla.go.YimH1471,and the animalsH2421of the earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776will not devourתֹאכְלֵ֑םtokh.LemH398them; but they willliveוְיָשְׁב֥וּve.ya.she.VuH3427securelyלָבֶ֖טַחla.Ve.tachH983,and noH369oneH369will makeH2729themafraidH2729.

29I will establishוַהֲקִמֹתִ֥יva.ha.ki.mo.TiH6965for them arenownedלְשֵׁ֑םle.ShemH8034plantingH4302placeמַטָּ֖עma.Ta'H4302, and they willnot againע֜וֹדodH5750bevictimsאֲסֻפֵ֤י'a.su.FeiH622of famineרָעָב֙ra.'AvH7458in the landבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776, and they will notendureיִשְׂא֥וּyis.'UH5375the insultsכְּלִמַּ֥תke.li.MatH3639of the nationsהַגּוֹיִֽם׃ha.go.YimH1471anymoreע֖וֹדodH5750.

30Then they will knowוְיָדְע֗וּve.ya.de.'UH3045thatI, the LordH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430,am with them, and that they, the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,are My peopleעַמִּי֙'a.MiH5971,”declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.

31“As for you, Mysheepצֹאנִ֛יtzo.NiH6629, thesheepצֹ֥אןtzonH6629of My pastureמַרְעִיתִ֖יmar.'i.TiH4830,you are mankindאָדָ֣ם'a.DamH120, andI am your Godאֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם'e.Lo.hei.KhemH430,”declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.
