The Sins of Israel

1Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“And you, sonבֶן־ven-H1121of manאָדָ֔ם'a.DamH120,will you judgeהֲתִשְׁפֹּ֥טha.tish.PotH8199,will you judgeהֲתִשְׁפֹּ֖טha.tish.PotH8199the bloodyהַדָּמִ֑יםha.da.MimH1818cityעִ֣יר'irH5892?Then informוְה֣וֹדַעְתָּ֔הּve.Ho.da'.TahH3045her of allכָּל־kol-H3605her abominationsתּוֹעֲבוֹתֶֽיהָ׃to.'a.vo.Tei.haH8441.

3And you shall sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֗ve.'a.mar.TaH559, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: “A cityעִ֣יר'irH5892sheddingשֹׁפֶ֥כֶתsho.Fe.khetH8210bloodדָּ֛םdamH1818in her midstבְּתוֹכָ֖הּbe.to.KhahH8432,so that her timeעִתָּ֑הּ'i.TahH6256is comingלָב֣וֹאla.Vo'H935; and a citythat makesוְעָשְׂתָ֧הve.'a.se.TahH6213idolsגִלּוּלִ֛יםgi.lu.LimH1544,contraryעָלֶ֖יהָ'a.Lei.haH5921to her own good,for defilementלְטָמְאָֽה׃le.ta.me.'AhH2930!

4You have becomeאָשַׁ֗מְתְּ'a.ShamtH816guiltyH816bythe bloodבְּדָמֵ֨ךְbe.da.MekhH1818whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you have shedשָׁפַ֜כְתְּsha.FakhtH8210,and you have becomeטָמֵ֔אתta.MetH2930defiledH2930by your idolsוּבְגִלּוּלַ֤יִךְu.ve.gi.lu.La.yikhH1544whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you have madeH6213.So you have broughtH7126your daysיָמַ֔יִךְya.Ma.yikhH3117closerH7126and have comeוַתָּב֖וֹאva.ta.Vo'H935to your yearsשְׁנוֹתָ֑יִךְshe.no.Ta.yikhH8141;thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֗ן'al- KenH5921 H3651I have madeH6213you adisgraceחֶרְפָּה֙cher.PahH2781to the nationsלַגּוֹיִ֔םla.go.YimH1471,and an objectH7048ofH7048mockingH7048to allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the landsהָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ha.'a.ra.TzotH776.

5Those who are nearהַקְּרֹב֛וֹתha.ke.ro.VotH7138and those who are farוְהָרְחֹק֥וֹתve.ha.re.cho.KotH7350from you will makeH7046funH7046of you, you of illטְמֵאַ֣תte.me.'AtH2931reputeהַשֵּׁ֔םha.ShemH8034,fullרַבַּ֖תra.BatH7227ofturmoilהַמְּהוּמָֽה׃ha.me.hu.MahH4103.

6“Beholdהִנֵּה֙hi.NehH2009, therulersנְשִׂיאֵ֣יne.si.'EiH5387of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,eachאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376according to hispowerלִזְרֹע֖וֹliz.ro.'OH2220,have beenהָ֣יוּHa.yuH1961among you for the purposeלְמַ֖עַןle.Ma.'anH4616of sheddingשְׁפָךְ־she.fokh-H8210bloodדָּֽם׃DamH1818.

7They havetreatedH7043fatherאָ֤ב'avH1and motherוָאֵם֙va.'EmH517withH7043contemptהֵקַ֣לּוּhe.Ka.luH7043among you. They have oppressedעָשׂ֥וּ בַעֹ֖שֶׁק'a.Su va.'O.shekH6213 H6233thestrangerלַגֵּ֛רla.GerH1616in your midstבְּתוֹכֵ֑ךְbe.to.KhekhH8432;they have oppressedה֥וֹנוּHo.nuH3238theorphanיָת֥וֹםya.TomH3490and the widowוְאַלְמָנָ֖הve.'al.ma.NahH490among you.

8You havedespisedבָּזִ֑יתba.ZitH959My holyקָדָשַׁ֖יka.da.ShaiH6944thingsH6944andprofanedחִלָּֽלְתְּ׃chi.La.letH2490My Sabbathsשַׁבְּתֹתַ֖יsha.be.to.TaiH7676.

9Slanderousרָכִ֛ילra.KhilH7400menH376have beenהָ֥יוּHa.yuH1961among you for the purposeלְמַ֣עַןle.Ma.'anH4616of sheddingשְׁפָךְ־she.fokh-H8210bloodדָּ֑םDamH1818,and among you they have eatenאָ֣כְלוּ'A.khe.luH398at the mountainהֶֽהָרִים֙he.ha.RimH2022shrines.In your midstבְתוֹכֵֽךְ׃ve.to.KhekhH8432they havecommittedעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213outrageousH2154sinH2154.

10Among you they haveuncoveredגִּלָּה־gi.lah-H1540theirfathers’אָ֖ב'avH1nakednessעֶרְוַת־'er.vat-H6172;among you they have abusedעִנּוּ־'i.nu-H6031her who wasuncleanטְמֵאַ֥תte.me.'AtH2931in her menstruationהַנִּדָּ֖הha.ni.DahH5079.

11And oneוְאִ֣ישׁ׀ve.'IshH376has committedעָשָׂה֙'a.SahH6213abominationתּֽוֹעֵבָ֔הto.'e.VahH8441with hisneighbor’sרֵעֵ֗הוּre.'E.huH7453wifeאֵ֣שֶׁת'E.shetH802,anotherוְאִ֥ישׁve.'IshH376has outrageouslyבְזִמָּ֑הve.zi.MahH2154defiledטִמֵּ֣אti.Me'H2930hisdaughter-in-lawכַּלָּת֖וֹka.la.ToH3618,and anotherוְאִ֛ישׁve.'IshH376among you has sexuallyabusedעִנָּה־'i.nah-H6031his sisterאֲחֹת֥וֹ'a.cho.ToH269,his father’sאָבִ֖יו'a.VivH1daughterבַת־vat-H1323.

12Among you they havetakenלָֽקְחוּ־la.ke.chu-H3947bribesשֹׁ֥חַדSho.chadH7810to shedשְׁפָךְ־she.fokh-H8210bloodדָּ֑םDamH1818;you have takenלָקַ֗חַתְּla.Ka.chatH3947interestנֶ֧שֶׁךְ וְתַרְבִּ֣יתNe.shekh ve.tar.BitH5392 H8636,you have injuredוַתְּבַצְּעִ֤יva.te.va.tze.'IH1214your neighborsרֵעַ֙יִךְ֙re.'A.yikhH7453byoppressionבַּעֹ֔שֶׁקba.'O.shekH6233, and you haveforgottenשָׁכַ֔חַתְּsha.Kha.chatH7911Me,” declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.

13“Beholdוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009,then, I strikeהִכֵּ֣יתִיhi.Kei.tiH5221with My handכַפִּ֔יkha.PiH3709yourprofitבִּצְעֵ֖ךְbitz.'EkhH1215whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you have madeעָשִׂ֑ית'a.SitH6213andthe bloodshedדָּמֵ֔ךְda.MekhH1818whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is amongבְּתוֹכֵֽךְ׃be.to.KhekhH8432you.

14Canyour heartלִבֵּךְ֙li.beKhH3820endureהֲיַעֲמֹ֤דha.ya.'a.ModH5975,orאִם־'im-H518can your handsיָדַ֔יִךְya.Da.yikhH3027be strongתֶּחֱזַ֣קְנָהte.che.Zak.nahH2388for the daysלַיָּמִ֕יםlai.ya.MimH3117that I will dealעֹשֶׂ֣ה'o.SehH6213with you?I, the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,have spokenדִּבַּ֥רְתִּיdi.Bar.tiH1696and will actוְעָשִֽׂיתִי׃ve.'a.Si.tiH6213.

15And I willscatterוַהֲפִיצוֹתִ֤יva.ha.fi.tzo.TiH6327you among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֔םba.go.YimH1471and disperseוְזֵרִיתִ֖יךְve.ze.ri.TikhH2219you among the landsבָּאֲרָצ֑וֹתba.'a.ra.TzotH776, and I willeliminateוַהֲתִמֹּתִ֥יva.ha.ti.mo.TiH8552your uncleannessטֻמְאָתֵ֖ךְtum.'a.TekhH2932from you.

16Then you will defileוְנִחַ֥לְתְּve.ni.ChaltH2490yourself in the sightלְעֵינֵ֣יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the nationsגוֹיִ֑םgo.YimH1471, and you willknowוְיָדַ֖עַתְּve.ya.Da.'atH3045that I am the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.”’”

17And the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

18“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,the houseבֵֽית־veit-H1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478has becomeH1961wasteH5509metalH5509to Me; allכֻּלָּ֡םku.LamH3605of them arebronzeנְ֠חֹשֶׁתNe.cho.shetH5178,tinוּבְדִ֨ילu.ve.DilH913,ironוּבַרְזֶ֤לu.var.ZelH1270,and leadוְעוֹפֶ֙רֶת֙ve.'o.Fe.retH5777in thesmeltingH3564furnaceכּ֔וּרKurH3564; they are thewasteH5509metalH5509of silverכֶּ֖סֶףKe.sefH3701.

19Thereforeלָכֵ֗ןla.KhenH3651,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: ‘Becauseיַ֛עַןYa.'anH3282allכֻּלְּכֶ֖םku.le.KhemH3605of you have becomeהֱי֥וֹתhe.YotH1961wasteH5509metalH5509,thereforeלָכֵן֙la.KhenH3651,beholdH2009,I am going to gatherקֹבֵ֣ץko.VetzH6908you into the midstתּ֖וֹךְTokhH8432of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

20As they gatherקְבֻ֣צַתke.Vu.tzatH6910silverכֶּ֡סֶףKe.sefH3701,bronzeוּ֠נְחֹשֶׁתU.ne.cho.shetH5178,ironוּבַרְזֶ֨לu.var.ZelH1270,leadוְעוֹפֶ֤רֶתve.'o.Fe.retH5777,and tinוּבְדִיל֙u.ve.DilH913into thesmeltingH3564furnaceכּ֔וּרKurH3564to blowלָפַֽחַת־la.fa.chat-H5301fireאֵ֖שׁ'eshH784on it in order to meltלְהַנְתִּ֑יךְle.han.TikhH5413it,soכֵּ֤ןkenH3651I will gatherאֶקְבֹּץ֙'ek.BotzH6908youin My angerבְּאַפִּ֣יbe.'a.PiH639and in My wrathוּבַחֲמָתִ֔יu.va.cha.ma.TiH2534,and I will placeוְהִנַּחְתִּ֥יve.hi.nach.TiH5117you thereand meltוְהִתַּכְתִּ֖יve.hi.takh.TiH5413you.

21And I will gatherוְכִנַּסְתִּ֣יve.khi.nas.TiH3664you and blowוְנָפַחְתִּ֥יve.na.fach.TiH5301on you with the fireבְּאֵ֣שׁbe.'EshH784of My wrathעֶבְרָתִ֑י'ev.ra.TiH5678,and you will be meltedוְנִתַּכְתֶּ֖םve.ni.takh.TemH5413in the midstבְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃be.to.KhahH8432of it.

22As silverכֶּ֙סֶף֙ke.sefH3701is meltedכְּהִתּ֥וּךְke.hi.TukhH2046in the furnaceכּ֔וּרKurH3564,soכֵּ֖ןkenH3651you will be meltedתֻּתְּכ֣וּtu.te.KhuH5413in the midstH8432of it; and you will knowוִֽידַעְתֶּם֙vi.da'.TemH3045that I, the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, havepouredשָׁפַ֥כְתִּיsha.Fakh.tiH8210outH8210My wrathחֲמָתִ֖יcha.ma.TiH2534on you.’”

23And the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to me, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

24“Sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of manאָדָ֕ם'a.DamH120,sayאֱמָר־'e.mor-H559to her, ‘You are a landאֶ֔רֶץ'E.retzH776that isnot cleanמְטֹהָרָ֖הme.to.ha.RahH2891or rainedH1652on in the dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117of indignationזָֽעַם׃Za.'amH2195.’

25There is aconspiracyקֶ֤שֶׁרKe.sherH7195of her prophetsנְבִיאֶ֙יהָ֙ne.vi.'Ei.haH5030in her midstבְּתוֹכָ֔הּbe.to.KhahH8432like a roaringשׁוֹאֵ֖גsho.'EgH7580lionכַּאֲרִ֥יka.'a.RiH738tearingטֹ֣רֵֽףTo.refH2963the preyטָ֑רֶףTa.refH2964. They havedevouredאָכָ֗לוּ'a.Kha.luH398livesנֶ֣פֶשׁNe.feshH5315;they have takenיִקָּ֔חוּyi.Ka.chuH3947treasureחֹ֤סֶןCho.senH2633and preciousוִיקָר֙vi.KarH3366thingsH3366;they have madeH7235manyH7235widowsאַלְמְנוֹתֶ֖יהָ'al.me.no.Tei.haH490in the midstבְתוֹכָֽהּ׃ve.to.KhahH8432of her.

26Herpriestsכֹּהֲנֶ֜יהָko.ha.Nei.haH3548have doneH2554violenceחָמְס֣וּcha.me.SuH2554to My Lawתוֹרָתִי֮to.ra.TiH8451and haveprofanedוַיְחַלְּל֣וּvay.cha.le.LuH2490My holyקָדָשַׁי֒ka.da.ShaiH6944thingsקֹ֤דֶשׁKo.deshH6944;they have madeH914noH3808distinctionהִבְדִּ֔ילוּhiv.Di.luH914betweenבֵּֽין־bein-H996the holyH6944and thecommonלְחֹל֙le.CholH2455,and they have not taughtהוֹדִ֑יעוּho.Di.'uH3045the difference betweenוּבֵין־u.vein-H996theuncleanהַטָּמֵ֥אha.ta.Me'H2931and the cleanלְטָה֖וֹרle.ta.HorH2889;and they have closedהֶעְלִ֣ימוּhe'.Li.muH5956their eyesעֵֽינֵיהֶ֔ם'ei.nei.HemH5869from My Sabbathsוּמִשַׁבְּתוֹתַי֙u.mi.sha.be.to.TaiH7676,and I am defiledוָאֵחַ֖לva.'e.ChalH2490amongבְּתוֹכָֽם׃be.to.KhamH8432them.

27Her leadersשָׂרֶ֣יהָsa.Rei.haH8269withinבְקִרְבָּ֔הּve.kir.BahH7130her are like wolvesכִּזְאֵבִ֖יםkiz.'e.VimH2061tearingטֹ֣רְפֵיTo.re.feiH2963the preyטָ֑רֶףTa.refH2964,by sheddingלִשְׁפָּךְ־lish.pokh-H8210bloodדָּם֙damH1818anddestroyingלְאַבֵּ֣דle.'a.BedH6livesנְפָשׁ֔וֹתne.fa.ShotH5315inH4616orderH4616toH4616makeבְּצֹ֥עַbe.Tzo.a'H1214dishonestH1215profitH1215.

28And her prophetsוּנְבִיאֶ֗יהָu.ne.vi.'Ei.haH5030have coatedטָח֤וּta.ChuH2902with whitewashתָּפֵ֔לta.FelH8602for them, seeingחֹזִ֣יםcho.ZimH2372falseשָׁ֔וְאShav'H7723visionsH2372and diviningוְקֹסְמִ֥יםve.ko.se.MimH7080liesכָּזָ֑בka.ZavH3577for them, sayingאֹמְרִ֗ים'o.me.RimH559, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559,’when the LordH3068has not spokenדִבֵּֽר׃di.BerH1696.

29The peopleעַ֤ם'amH5971of the landהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776have practicedעָ֣שְׁקוּ'A.she.kuH6231extortionעֹ֔שֶׁק'O.shekH6233and committedוְגָזְל֖וּve.ga.ze.LuH1497robberyגָּזֵ֑לga.ZelH1498,and they have oppressedהוֹנ֔וּho.NuH3238the poorוְעָנִ֤יve.'a.NiH6041and needyוְאֶבְיוֹן֙ve.'ev.yOnH34, and haveoppressedעָשְׁק֖וּ'a.she.KuH6231the strangerהַגֵּ֥רha.GerH1616withoutבְּלֹ֥אbe.Lo'H3808justiceמִשְׁפָּֽט׃mish.PatH4941.

30Isearchedוָאֲבַקֵּ֣שׁva.'a.va.KeshH1245for a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376amongH4480them who wouldbuildH1443upH1443a wallגָּדֵר֩ga.DerH1447andstandוְעֹמֵ֨דve.'o.MedH5975in the gapבַּפֶּ֧רֶץba.Pe.retzH6556beforeלְפָנַ֛יle.fa.NaiH6440Me for the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,soH1115thatH1115I would notH1115destroyשַׁחֲתָ֑הּsha.cha.TahH7843it; but I foundמָצָֽאתִי׃ma.Tza.tiH4672noוְלֹ֖אve.Lo'H3808one.

31So I have pouredוָאֶשְׁפֹּ֤ךְva.'esh.PokhH8210outH8210Myindignationזַעְמִ֔יza'.MiH2195on them; I have consumedכִּלִּיתִ֑יםki.li.TimH3615them with the fireבְּאֵ֥שׁbe.'EshH784of My wrathעֶבְרָתִ֖י'ev.ra.TiH5678;I have broughtנָתַ֔תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414their wayדַּרְכָּם֙dar.KamH1870upon their headsבְּרֹאשָׁ֣םbe.ro.ShamH7218,”declaresנְאֻ֖םne.'UmH5002the Lordאֲדֹנָ֥י'a.do.NaiH136 GodH3068.
