8The one who does not loveἀγαπῶνagapōnG25does not knowἔγνωegnōG1097Godθεόν,theonG2316,becauseὅτιhotiG3754GodθεὸςtheosG2316is loveἀγάπηagapēG26.

9By thisτούτῳtoutōG3778the loveἀγάπηagapēG26of GodθεοῦtheouG2316was revealedἐφανερώθηephanerōthēG5319in us, thatGodθεὸςtheosG2316has sentἀπέσταλκενapestalkenG649His onlyμονογενῆmonogenēG3439SonυἱὸνhuionG5207into the worldκόσμονkosmonG2889soἵναinaG2443thatG2443we may liveζήσωμενzēsōmenG2198throughδι᾽di᾽G1223Him.

10In thisτούτῳtoutōG3778is loveἀγάπη,agapēG26,not that we lovedἠγαπήκαμενēgapēkamenG25Godθεόν,theonG2316, but thatHe lovedἠγάπησενēgapēsenG25us and sentἀπέστειλενapesteilenG649His SonυἱὸνhuionG5207to be thepropitiationἱλασμὸνhilasmonG2434for our sinsἁμαρτιῶνhamartiōnG266.

13By thisτούτῳtoutōG3778we knowγινώσκομενginōskomenG1097that we remainμένομενmenomenG3306in Him and He in us, becauseG3754He has givenδέδωκενdedōkenG1325to us of His SpiritπνεύματοςpneumatosG4151.

14We have seenτεθεάμεθαtetheamethaG2300andtestifyμαρτυροῦμενmarturoumenG3140that the FatherπατὴρpatērG3962hassentἀπέσταλκενapestalkenG649the SonυἱὸνhuionG5207to bethe SaviorσωτῆραsōtēraG4990of the worldκόσμου.kosmouG2889.

15Whoeverὃς ἐὰνhos eanG3739 G1437confessesὁμολογήσῃhomologēsēG3670thatJesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424is the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of Godθεοῦ,theouG2316,GodθεὸςtheosG2316remainsμένειmeneiG3306in him, and he in Godθεῷ.theōG2316.

16We have comeἐγνώκαμενegnōkamenG1097to knowG1097and have believedπεπιστεύκαμενpepisteukamenG4100the loveἀγάπηνagapēnG26whichἣνhēnG3739GodθεὸςtheosG2316hasἔχειecheiG2192for us.GodθεὸςtheosG2316is loveἀγάπηagapēG26, and the one whoremainsμένωνmenōnG3306in loveἀγάπῃagapēG26remainsμένει,meneiG3306in GodθεῷtheōG2316,and GodθεὸςtheosG2316remainsμένει.meneiG3306in him.

17By thisτούτῳtoutōG3778,loveἀγάπηagapēG26is perfectedτετελείωταιteteleiōtaiG5048with us, soἵναinaG2443thatG2443we may haveἔχωμενechōmenG2192confidenceπαρρησίανparrēsianG3954inthe dayἡμέρᾳhēmeraG2250of judgmentκρίσεως,kriseōsG2920;becauseὅτιhotiG3754as He is, we alsoκαὶkaiG2532are in thisτούτῳ.toutōG3778worldκόσμῳkosmōG2889.

18There is noG3756fearφόβοςphobosG5401in loveἀγάπῃ,agapēG26, butperfectτελείαteleiaG5046loveἀγάπηagapēG26drivesβάλλειballeiG906out fearφόβον,phobonG5401,becauseὅτιhotiG3754fearφόβοςphobosG5401involvesἔχει·echeiG2192punishmentκόλασινkolasinG2851,and the one who fearsφοβούμενοςphoboumenosG5399is notperfectedτετελείωταιteteleiōtaiG5048in loveἀγάπῃ.agapēG26.

19We loveἀγαπῶμενagapōmenG25,becauseὅτιhotiG3754He firstπρῶτοςprōtosG4413lovedἠγάπησενēgapēsenG25us.

20IfἐάνeanG1437someoneτιςtisG5100saysG3004, “I loveἀγαπῶagapōG25GodθεὸνtheonG2316,” and yet hehatesμισῇ,misēaG3404his brotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80or sister, he is aliarψεύστηςpseustēsG5583; forthe one who does not loveἀγαπῶνagapōnG25his brotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80and sisterwhomὃνhonG3739he has seenἑώρακεν,he'ōrakenG3708,cannotδύναταιdunataiG1410 G3756loveἀγαπᾶν·agapanG25GodθεὸνtheonG2316,whomὃνhonG3739he has not seenἑώρακενhe'ōrakenG3708.

21AndthisταύτηνtautēnG3778commandmentἐντολὴνentolēnG1785we haveἔχομενechomenG2192from Him, that the one who lovesἀγαπῶνagapōnG25GodθεὸνtheonG2316must alsoG2532loveἀγαπᾷagapaG25his brotherἀδελφὸνadelphonG80and sister.
