Proverbs 26
Darby Bible
1As snowH7950 in summerH7019, and as rainH4306 in harvestH7105, soH3651 honour beseemeth not a foolH3684. 2As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallowH1866 for flying, so a curseH7045 undeserved shall not comeH935. 3A whipH7752 for the horseH5483, a bridleH4964 for the ass, and a rodH7626 for the back of foolsH3684. 4AnswerH6030 not a foolH3684 according to his follyH200, lestH6435 thou alsoH1571 be like unto him. 5AnswerH6030 a foolH3684 according to his follyH200, lestH6435 he beH1961 wiseH2450 in his own eyesH5869. 6He that sendeth a message by the handH3027 of a foolH3684 cutteth off [his own] feetH7272, [and] drinketh damage. 7The legsH7785 of the lameH6455 hangH1809 loose; so is a proverbH4912 in the mouthH6310 of foolsH3684. 8As a bag of gems in a stoneheap, soH3651 is he that giveth honour to a foolH3684. 9[As] a thornH2336 goeth up into the handH3027 of a drunkardH7910, so is a proverbH4912 in the mouthH6310 of foolsH3684. 10A master roughly worketh every one: he both hireth the foolH3684 and hireth passers-by. 11As a dogH3611 turneth backH7725 to its vomitH6892, [so] a foolH3684 repeateth his follyH200. 12Hast thou seenH7200 a manH376 wiseH2450 in his own eyesH5869? There is moreH4480 hopeH8615 of a foolH3684 than of him. 13The sluggardH6102 saith, There is a fierce lionH738 in the wayH1870; a lionH738 is in the midst of the streets! 14[As] the doorH1817 turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggardH6102 upon his bedH4296. 15The sluggardH6102 burieth his handH3027 in the dishH6747: it wearieth him to bringH7725 it again to his mouthH6310. 16A sluggardH6102 is wiser in his ownH5869 eyesH5869 than sevenH7651 [men] that answer discreetly. 17He that passingH5674 by vexeth himself with strifeH7379 belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dogH3611 by the earsH241. 18As a madman who casteth firebrandsH2131, arrowsH2671, and deathH4194, 19soH3651 is a manH376 that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport? 20Where no woodH6086 is, the fireH784 goeth out; and where there is no talebearer, the contentionH4066 ceaseth. 21[As] coalsH1513 for hot coalsH1513, and woodH6086 for fireH784, so is a contentious manH376 to inflame strifeH7379. 22The wordsH1697 of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they goH3381 down into the innermost parts of the bellyH990. 23Ardent lipsH8193, and a wickedH7451 heartH3820, are [as] an earthen vessel overlaidH6823 with silverH3701 dross. 24He that hateth dissembleth with his lipsH8193, but he layeth up deceitH4820 within him: 25when his voiceH6963 is gracious, believeH539 him not, for there are sevenH7651 abominationsH8441 in his heartH3820. 26Though [his] hatredH8135 is coveredH3680 by dissimulation, his wickednessH7451 shall be made manifest in the congregation. 27Whoso diggeth a pitH7845 shall fallH5307 therein; and he that rolleth a stoneH68, it shall returnH7725 upon him. 28A lyingH8267 tongueH3956 hateth those that are injured by it, and a flattering mouthH6310 worketh ruin.
