Proverbs 13
Darby Bible
1A wiseH2450 sonH1121 [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebukeH1606. 2A manH376 shall eatH398 goodH2896 by the fruitH6529 of his mouthH6310; but the soulH5315 of the treacherousH898, violenceH2555. 3He that guardeth his mouthH6310 keepeth his soulH5315; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lipsH8193. 4A sluggard's soulH5315 desireth and hath nothingH369; but the soulH5315 of the diligent shall be made fatH1878. 5A righteousH6662 [man] hateth lyingH8267; but the wickedH7563 maketh himself odiousH887 and cometh to shameH2659. 6RighteousnessH6666 preserveth him that is perfect in the wayH1870; but wickednessH7564 overthroweth the sinner. 7There is that feigneth himself richH6238, and hath nothingH369; there is that maketh himself poorH7326, and hath greatH7227 wealthH1952. 8The ransomH3724 of a man's lifeH5315 is his richesH6239; but the indigent heareth not rebukeH1606. 9The lightH216 of the righteousH6662 rejoiceth; but the lampH5216 of the wickedH7563 shall be put out. 10By prideH2087 there onlyH7535 cometh contentionH4683; but with the well-advised is wisdomH2451. 11WealthH1952 [gotten] by vanityH1892 diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increaseH7235 [it]. 12HopeH8431 deferred maketh the heartH3820 sickH2470; but the desireH8378 [that] cometh to pass is a treeH6086 of lifeH2416. 13Whoso despiseth the wordH1697 shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandmentH4687 shall be rewarded. 14The teaching of the wiseH2450 [man] is a fountainH4726 of lifeH2416, to turnH5493 awayH5493 from the snaresH4170 of deathH4194. 15GoodH2896 understandingH7922 procureth favour; but the wayH1870 of the treacherousH898 is hard. 16Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledgeH1847; but the foolish layeth open [his] follyH200. 17A wickedH7563 messengerH4397 falleth into evilH7451; but a faithfulH529 ambassador is health. 18PovertyH7389 and shameH7036 shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 19The desireH8378 accomplished is sweet to the soulH5315; but it is abominationH8441 to the foolish to departH5493 from evilH7451. 20He that walketh with wiseH2450 [men] becometh wiseH2450; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved. 21EvilH7451 pursueth sinnersH2400; but to the righteousH6662 goodH2896 shall be repaid. 22A goodH2896 man leaveth an inheritanceH5157 to his children's children; but the wealthH2428 of the sinnerH2398 is laid up for the righteousH6662 [man]. 23Much foodH400 is in the tillage of the poorH7326; but there is that is lost for want of judgmentH4941. 24He that spareth his rodH7626 hateth his sonH1121; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. 25The righteousH6662 eateth to the satisfying of his soulH5315; but the bellyH990 of the wickedH7563 shall want.
