Proverbs 16
Darby Bible
1The purposes of the heartH3820 are of manH120, but the answerH4617 of the tongueH3956 is from Jehovah. 2All the waysH1870 of a manH376 are clean in his own eyesH5869; but Jehovah weigheth the spiritsH7307. 3Commit thy worksH4639 unto Jehovah, and thy thoughtsH4284 shall be establishedH3559. 4Jehovah hath wrought everythingH3605 on his own account, yea, even the wickedH7563 for the dayH3117 of evilH7451. 5Every proud heartH3820 is an abominationH8441 to Jehovah: handH3027 for handH3027, he shall not be held innocent. 6By loving-kindness and truthH571 iniquityH5771 is atoned for; and by the fearH3374 of Jehovah [men] departH5493 from evilH7451. 7When a man's waysH1870 please Jehovah, he maketh even his enemiesH341 to be at peace with him. 8Better is a littleH4592 with righteousnessH6666, than great revenues without rightH4941. 9The heartH3820 of manH120 deviseth his wayH1870, but Jehovah directeth his stepsH6806. 10An oracle is on the lipsH8193 of the kingH4428: his mouthH6310 will not err in judgmentH4941. 11The just balanceH6425 and scales are Jehovah's; all the weightsH68 of the bagH3599 are his workH4639. 12It is an abominationH8441 to kingsH4428 to commit wickednessH7562; for the throneH3678 is establishedH3559 by righteousnessH6666. 13Righteous lipsH8193 are the delightH7522 of kingsH4428, and they loveH157 him that speaketh aright. 14The fury of a kingH4428 is [as] messengersH4397 of deathH4194; but a wiseH2450 manH376 will pacify it. 15In the lightH216 of the king's countenance is lifeH2416, and his favour is as a cloudH5645 of the latter rainH4456. 16HowH4100 much betterH2896 is it to get wisdomH2451 than fine goldH2742, and the getting of intelligence to be preferred to silverH3701! 17The highwayH4546 of the uprightH3477 is to departH5493 from evilH7451: he that taketh heedH8104 to his wayH1870 keepeth his soulH5315. 18PrideH1347 [goeth] before destructionH7667, and a haughty spiritH7307 before a fall. 19Better is it to be of a humble spiritH7307 with the meek, than to divideH2505 the spoilH7998 with the proudH1343. 20He that giveth heed to the wordH1697 shall findH4672 goodH2896; and whoso confideth in Jehovah, happy is he. 21The wiseH2450 in heartH3820 is calledH7121 intelligent, and the sweetnessH4986 of the lipsH8193 increaseth learning. 22Wisdom is a fountainH4726 of lifeH2416 for him that hath it; but the instruction of foolsH191 is follyH200. 23The heartH3820 of the wiseH2450 maketh his mouthH6310 intelligent, and upon his lipsH8193 increaseth learning. 24Pleasant wordsH561 are [as] a honeycomb, sweetH4966 to the soulH5315, and health for the bonesH6106. 25There is a wayH1870 that seemeth rightH3477 unto a manH376, but the endH319 thereof is the waysH1870 of deathH4194. 26The appetiteH5315 of the labourer laboureth for him, for his mouthH6310 urgeth him on. 27A manH376 of Belial diggeth up evilH7451, and on his lipsH8193 there is as a scorching fireH784. 28A false manH376 soweth contentionH4066; and a talebearer separateth very friends. 29A violent manH376 enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a wayH1870 that is not goodH2896. 30He that shutteth his eyesH5869, [it is] to devise froward thingsH8419; biting his lipsH8193, he bringeth evilH7451 to pass. 31The hoary head is a crownH5850 of gloryH8597, [if] it is foundH4672 in the wayH1870 of righteousnessH6666. 32He that is slow to angerH639 is betterH2896 than the mightyH1368, and he that ruleth his spiritH7307 than he that taketh a cityH5892. 33The lotH1486 is cast into the lap; but the whole decision is of Jehovah.
