Proverbs 21
Darby Bible
1The king's heartH3820 in the handH3027 of Jehovah is [as] brooks of waterH4325: he turneth it whithersoever he will. 2Every wayH1870 of a manH376 is rightH3477 in his own eyesH5869; but Jehovah weigheth the heartsH3826. 3To exercise justiceH4941 and judgmentH4941 is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrificeH2077. 4Lofty eyesH5869, and a proud heartH3820, the lamp of the wickedH7563, is sinH2403. 5The thoughtsH4284 of the diligent [tend] onlyH389 to plenteousness; but of every one that is hastyH213, onlyH389 to want. 6The getting of treasuresH214 by a lyingH8267 tongueH3956 is a fleeting breathH1892 of them that seekH1245 deathH4194. 7The devastationH7701 of the wickedH7563 sweepeth them awayH1641, because they refuseH3985 to do what is rightH4941. 8Very crooked is the wayH1870 of a guilty manH376; but as for the pureH2134, his workH6467 is uprightH3477. 9It is betterH2896 to dwellH3427 in a cornerH6438 of the housetop, than with a contentious womanH802, and a houseH1004 in common. 10The soulH5315 of the wickedH7563 desireth evilH7451: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyesH5869. 11When the scorner is punishedH6064, the simple becometh wiseH2450; and when the wiseH2450 is instructed, he receiveth knowledgeH1847. 12OneH6662 that is righteousH6662 wisely considereth the houseH1004 of the wickedH7563: he overthroweth the wickedH7563 to [their] ruin. 13Whoso stoppeth his earsH241 at the cry of the poorH1800, he alsoH1571 himself shall cry, and shall not be heard. 14A giftH4976 in secret pacifieth angerH639; and a present in the bosomH2436, vehement fury. 15It is joyH8057 to a righteousH6662 [man] to do what is rightH4941; but it is ruinH4288 for the workers of iniquity. 16The manH120 that wandereth out of the wayH1870 of wisdom shall abide in the congregation of the dead. 17He that loveth mirth shall be a poor manH376; he that loveth wineH3196 and oilH8081 shall not be richH6238. 18The wickedH7563 is a ransomH3724 for the righteousH6662, and a treacherousH898 [man] in the stead of the uprightH3477. 19It is betterH2896 to dwellH3427 in a desert landH776. than with a contentious and irritable womanH802. 20There is costly store and oilH8081 in the dwelling of a wiseH2450 [manH120]; but a foolish manH120 swalloweth it up. 21He that followeth after righteousnessH6666 and mercy findeth lifeH2416, righteousnessH6666, and honour. 22A wiseH2450 [man] scaleth the cityH5892 of the mightyH1368, and casteth down the strengthH5797 of the confidenceH4009 thereof. 23Whoso keepeth his mouthH6310 and his tongueH3956 keepeth his soulH5315 from troubles. 24Proud, arrogantH2086, scorner is his nameH8034 who dealeth in proud wrathH5678. 25The desireH8378 of the sluggardH6102 killeth him; for his handsH3027 refuseH3985 to work: 26He coveteth greedily all the dayH3117 long; but the righteousH6662 giveth and spareth not. 27The sacrificeH2077 of the wickedH7563 is abominationH8441: how much more when they bringH935 it with a wickedH7563 purpose! 28A lyingH3577 witnessH5707 shall perishH6; and a manH376 that heareth shall speakH1696 constantly. 29A wickedH7563 manH376 hardeneth his faceH6440; but as for the uprightH3477, he establisheth his wayH1870. 30There is no wisdomH2451, nor understandingH8394, nor counselH6098 against Jehovah. 31The horseH5483 is preparedH3559 for the dayH3117 of battleH4421; but safety is of Jehovah.
