Darby Bible

1And JoshuaH3091 gatheredH622 all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to ShechemH7927, and calledH7121 for the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, and for their headsH7218, and for their judgesH8199, and for their officersH7860; and they presentedH3320 themselves before 1GodH430. 2And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto all the peopleH5971, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Your fathersH1 dweltH3427 of old on the otherH312 sideH5676 of the riverH5104, TerahH8646, the fatherH1 of AbrahamH85 and the fatherH1 of NahorH5152, and they servedH5647 otherH312 3godsH430. 3And I tookH3947 your fatherH1 AbrahamH85 from the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the riverH5104, and led him throughout the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and multipliedH7235 his seedH2233 and gaveH5414 him IsaacH3327. 4And I gaveH5414 unto IsaacH3327 JacobH3290 and EsauH6215; and I gaveH5414 unto EsauH6215 mount SeirH8165, to possessH3423 it; and JacobH3290 and his sonsH1121 wentH3381 downH3381 into EgyptH4714. 5And I sentH7971 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and I plagued EgyptH4714, according to that which I did among them; and afterwards I broughtH3318 you out. 6And I broughtH935 your fathersH1 out of EgyptH4714, and ye cameH935 unto the seaH3220; and the Egyptians pursuedH7291 after your fathersH1 with chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571 unto the Red seaH3220. 7Then they criedH6817 to Jehovah, and he putH7760 darkness between you and the Egyptians, and broughtH935 the seaH3220 upon them, and coveredH3680 them; and your eyesH5869 sawH7200 what I did in EgyptH4714; and ye dweltH3427 in the wildernessH4057 a long time. 8And I broughtH935 you into the landH776 of the AmoritesH567, who dweltH3427 beyond the JordanH3383, and they foughtH3898 with you, and I gaveH5414 them into your handH3027, and ye tookH3423 possessionH3423 of their landH776, and I destroyedH8045 them from before you. 9And BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834, kingH4428 of MoabH4124, aroseH6965 and warred against IsraelH3478, and sentH7971 and calledH7121 BalaamH1109 the sonH1121 of BeorH1160 to curseH7043 you; 10but I wouldH14 not hearken unto BalaamH1109, and he blessedH1288 you expressly, and I deliveredH5337 you out of his handH3027. 11And ye wentH935 over the JordanH3383, and cameH935 unto JerichoH3405, and the men of JerichoH3405 foughtH3898 against you, the AmoritesH567, and the Perizzites, and the CanaanitesH3669, and the HittitesH2850, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your handH3027. 12And I sentH7971 the hornetH6880 before you, which droveH1644 them out from before you, [as] the twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567; not with thy swordH2719, nor with thy bowH7198. 13And I have givenH5414 you a landH776 for which ye did not labour, and citiesH5892 which ye builtH1129 not, and ye dwellH3427 in them; of vineyardsH3754 and oliveyards which ye plantedH5193 not do ye eatH398. 14And nowH6258 fearH3372 Jehovah and serveH5647 him in perfectness and in truthH571; and put awayH5493 the 4godsH430 which your fathersH1 servedH5647 on the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the riverH5104, and in EgyptH4714; and serveH5647 Jehovah. 15And if it seem evilH7451 unto you to serveH5647 Jehovah, chooseH977 you this dayH3117 whom ye will serveH5647; whether the 5godsH430 whom your fathersH1 that were on the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the riverH5104 servedH5647, or the 6godsH430 of the AmoriteH567, in whose landH776 ye dwellH3427; but as for me and my houseH1004, we will serveH5647 Jehovah. 16And the peopleH5971 answered and saidH559, FarH2486 be it from us that we should forsakeH5800 Jehovah, to serveH5647 otherH312 7godsH430; 17for Jehovah our 8GodH430, he it is that broughtH5927 us up and our fathersH1 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, from the houseH1004 of bondage, and who did those greatH1419 signsH226 before our eyesH5869, and preservedH8104 us in all the wayH1870 wherein we wentH1980, and among all the peoplesH5971 through whom we passedH5674! 18And Jehovah droveH1644 out from before us all the peoplesH5971, and the AmoritesH567 the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776: so therefore we will serveH5647 Jehovah, for he is our 9GodH430. 19And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, Ye cannot serveH5647 Jehovah, for he is a holyH6918 10GodH430; he is a jealousH7072 11GodH430; he will not forgiveH5375 your transgressionsH6588 nor your sinsH2403. 20If ye forsakeH5800 Jehovah, and serveH5647 strange 12godsH430, then he will turnH7725 and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you goodH3190. 21And the peopleH5971 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, No; but we will serveH5647 Jehovah. 22And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, Ye are witnessesH5707 against yourselves that ye have chosenH977 you Jehovah, to serveH5647 him. And they saidH559, [We are] witnessesH5707. 23NowH6258 thereforeH6258 put awayH5493 the strange 13godsH430 that are among you, and inclineH5186 your heartH3824 unto Jehovah the 14GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24And the peopleH5971 saidH559 unto JoshuaH3091, Jehovah our 15GodH430 will we serveH5647, and to his voiceH6963 will we hearken. 25So JoshuaH3091 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the peopleH5971 that dayH3117, and setH7760 them a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 in ShechemH7927. 26And JoshuaH3091 wroteH3789 these wordsH1697 in the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of 16GodH430, and tookH3947 a greatH1419 stoneH68, and setH6965 it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuaryH4720 of Jehovah. 27And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto all the peopleH5971, Behold, this stoneH68 shall beH1961 a witness unto us, for it hath heardH8085 all the wordsH561 of Jehovah which he spokeH1696 unto us; and it shall beH1961 a witness against you, lestH6435 ye denyH3584 your 17GodH430. 28And JoshuaH3091 dismissed the peopleH5971, every manH376 to his inheritanceH5159. 29And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, the servantH5650 of Jehovah, diedH4191, a hundredH3967 and tenH6235 yearsH8141 old. 30And they buriedH6912 him in the borderH1366 of his inheritanceH5159 in Timnath-serah, which is in mount EphraimH669, on the northH6828 side of the mountainH2022 of GaashH1608. 31And IsraelH3478 servedH5647 Jehovah all the daysH3117 of JoshuaH3091, and all the daysH3117 of the eldersH2205 whose daysH3117 were prolongedH748 after JoshuaH3091, and who had knownH3045 all the worksH4639 of Jehovah, which he had done for IsraelH3478. 32And the bonesH6106 of JosephH3130, which the children of IsraelH3478 had broughtH5927 up out of EgyptH4714, buriedH6912 they in ShechemH7927 in the portionH2513 of the fieldH7704 which JacobH3290 had boughtH7069 of the sonsH1121 of HamorH2544, Shechem's fatherH1, for a hundredH3967 kesitahs; and it becameH1961 the inheritanceH5159 of the children of JosephH3130. 33And EleazarH499 the sonH1121 of AaronH175 diedH4191; and they buriedH6912 him in the hillH2022 of PhinehasH6372 his sonH1121, which had been givenH5414 him in mount EphraimH669.
