Joshua 22
Darby Bible
1ThenH227 JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the halfH2677 tribeH4294 of ManassehH4519, 2and saidH559 unto them, Ye have keptH8104 all that MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of Jehovah commandedH6680 you, and have hearkened to my voiceH6963 in all that I commandedH6680 you. 3Ye have not leftH5800 your brethren these manyH7227 daysH3117 unto this dayH3117, and ye have keptH8104 the chargeH4931 of the commandmentH4687 of Jehovah your 1GodH430. 4And nowH6258 Jehovah your 2GodH430 hath givenH5414 restH5117 to your brethren, as he saidH1696 unto them; and nowH6258 return, and get you unto your tentsH168, unto the landH776 of your possessionH272, which MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of Jehovah gaveH5414 you beyond the JordanH3383. 5OnlyH7535, takeH8104 great heedH8104 to do the commandmentH4687 and the lawH8451, which MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of Jehovah commandedH6680 you, to loveH157 Jehovah your 3GodH430, and to walk in all his waysH1870, and to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687, and to cleave unto him, and to serveH5647 him with all your heartH3824 and with all your soulH5315. 6And JoshuaH3091 blessedH1288 them, and sentH7971 them awayH7971; and they went to their tentsH168. 7And to halfH2677 the tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 MosesH4872 had givenH5414 [inheritance] in BashanH1316, and to the other halfH2677 thereof had JoshuaH3091 givenH5414 among their brethren on this sideH5676 the JordanH3383 westward. And when JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 them awayH7971 to their tentsH168, he blessedH1288 them alsoH1571, 8and spoke to them, sayingH559, ReturnH7725 unto your tentsH168 with muchH7235 wealth and with veryH3966 muchH7235 cattle, with silverH3701, and with goldH2091, and with copperH5178, and with ironH1270, and with clothingH8008, in veryH3966 great quantity; divideH2505 the spoilH7998 of your enemiesH341 with your brethren. 9And the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 returnedH7725, and departed from the children of IsraelH3478 out of ShilohH7887, which is in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, to goH7725 to the country of GileadH1568, into the landH776 of their possessionH272, of which they had become possessed, according to the word of Jehovah through MosesH4872. 10And they cameH935 to the districts of the JordanH3383 that are in the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 by the JordanH3383, an altarH4196 of grand appearanceH4758. 11And the children of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 sayH559, Behold, the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 have builtH1129 an altarH4196 over against the landH776 of CanaanH3667, in the districts of the JordanH3383, separately from the children of IsraelH3478. 12And when the children of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 [of it], the whole assemblyH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478 gathered together at ShilohH7887, to goH5927 up against them to warH6635. 13And the children of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 to the children of ReubenH7205, and to the children of GadH1410, and to the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519, into the landH776 of GileadH1568, PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548, 14and with him tenH6235 princesH5387, of each father's houseH1004 a princeH5387, out of all the tribesH4294 of IsraelH3478; and each of them was headH7218 of a father's houseH1004, of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478. 15And they cameH935 to the children of ReubenH7205, and to the children of GadH1410, and to the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519, to the landH776 of GileadH1568, and spokeH1696 with them, sayingH559, 16ThusH3541 saith the whole assemblyH5712 of Jehovah: What wickedness is this which ye have committed against the 4GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to turnH7725 awayH7725 this dayH3117 from following Jehovah, in that ye have builtH1129 yourselves an altarH4196, rebellingH4775 this dayH3117 against Jehovah? 17Is the iniquityH5771 of PeorH6465 too littleH4592 for us? from which we are not cleansedH2891 until this dayH3117, although there wasH1961 a plagueH5063 in the assemblyH5712 of Jehovah. 18And ye turnH7725 awayH7725 this dayH3117 from following Jehovah; and it will beH1961, that since ye rebelH4775 this dayH3117 against Jehovah, to-morrow he will beH1961 wroth with the whole assemblyH5712 of IsraelH3478. 19Notwithstanding, if the landH776 of your possessionH272 is uncleanH2931, come over into the landH776 of the possessionH272 of Jehovah, whereH834 Jehovah's tabernacleH4908 dwelleth, and takeH270 possessionH272 amongst us; but rebelH4775 not against Jehovah, and rebelH4775 not against us, in buildingH1129 for yourselves an altarH4196 besides the altarH4196 of Jehovah our 5GodH430. 20Did not AchanH5912 the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226 commit a trespass in the accursed thing? and wrathH7110 fell on all the assemblyH5712 of IsraelH3478, and he perished not alone in his iniquityH5771. 21And the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 answeredH6030 and saidH1696 to the headsH7218 of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478, 22The 6GodH430 of 7godsH430, Jehovah, the 8GodH430 of 9godsH430, Jehovah, he knoweth, and IsraelH3478 he shall knowH3045 [it]; if it is in rebellion, or if in trespass against Jehovah, — saveH3467 us not this dayH3117! 23— that we have builtH1129 for ourselves an altarH4196 to turnH7725 from following Jehovah, and if it is to offerH5927 up burnt-offering and oblation on it, and if to offerH5927 peace-offerings thereon, let Jehovah himself requireH1245 it [from us]; 24and if we have not done it from fear of this thingH1697, sayingH559, In future your children will speak to our children, sayingH559, What have ye to do with Jehovah the 10GodH430 of IsraelH3478? 25Jehovah hath madeH5414 the JordanH3383 a borderH1366 between us and you, ye children of ReubenH7205 and children of GadH1410, ye have no portionH2506 in Jehovah! And so shall your children makeH5414 our children cease from fearing Jehovah. 26And we saidH559, Let us now set to work to buildH1129 an altarH4196, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrificeH2077, 27but to be a witnessH5707 between us and you, and between our generationsH1755 after us, that we might do serviceH5656 to Jehovah before him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrificesH2077, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not sayH559 to our children in future, Ye have no portionH2506 in Jehovah. 28And we saidH559, If it shall beH1961 that in future they so sayH559 to us and to our generationsH1755, we will sayH559, Behold the patternH8403 of the altarH4196 of Jehovah which our fathersH1 madeH6213, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrificeH2077, but as a witnessH5707 between us and you. 29FarH2486 be it from us that we should rebelH4775 against Jehovah, and turnH7725 this dayH3117 from following Jehovah, in buildingH1129 an altarH4196 for burnt-offering, for oblation, and for sacrificeH2077, besides the altarH4196 of Jehovah our 11GodH430 that is before his tabernacleH4908. 30And whenH834 PhinehasH6372 the priestH3548 and the princesH5387 of the assemblyH5712 and the headsH7218 of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478 that were with him heardH8085 the wordsH1697 that the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 and the children of ManassehH4519 spokeH1696, it was goodH3190 in their sight. 31And PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548 saidH559 unto the children of ReubenH7205, and to the children of GadH1410, and to the children of ManassehH4519, This dayH3117 we perceive that Jehovah is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against Jehovah: now have ye deliveredH5337 the children of IsraelH3478 out of the handH3027 of Jehovah. 32And PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and the princesH5387, returnedH7725 from the children of ReubenH7205, and from the children of GadH1410, out of the landH776 of GileadH1568, to the landH776 of CanaanH3667, to the children of IsraelH3478, and broughtH7725 them wordH1697 again. 33And the thingH1697 was goodH3190 in the sight of the children of IsraelH3478, and the children of IsraelH3478 blessedH1288 12GodH430, and no more saidH559 that they would goH5927 up in warfareH6635 against them, to destroyH7843 the landH776 in which the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 dweltH3427. 34And the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 gave a name to the altarH4196; for it is a witnessH5707 between us that Jehovah is 13GodH430.
