Joshua 5

Darby Bible

1And it came to passH5674 when all the kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who were beyond the JordanH3383 westward, and all the kingsH4428 of the CanaanitesH3669, who were by the seaH3220, heardH8085 that Jehovah had driedH3001 up the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 from before the children of IsraelH3478, until they had passedH5674 over, that their heartH3824 meltedH4549, and there wasH1961 no spiritH7307 in them any more, because of the children of IsraelH3478. 2At that timeH6256 Jehovah saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, MakeH6213 thee stone-knives, and circumciseH4135 again the children of IsraelH3478 the secondH8145 timeH6256. 3And JoshuaH3091 madeH6213 him stone-knives, and circumcisedH4135 the children of IsraelH3478 at the hillH1389 of Araloth. 4And this is the cause why JoshuaH3091 circumcisedH4135 [them]: all the peopleH5971 that had comeH3318 out of EgyptH4714, the malesH2145, all the menH376 of warH4421, had diedH4191 in the wildernessH4057 on the wayH1870, after they cameH3318 out of EgyptH4714. 5For all the peopleH5971 that came out wereH1961 circumcisedH4135; but all the peopleH5971 that wereH1961 born in the wildernessH4057 on the wayH1870, after they came out of EgyptH4714, [them] had they not circumcisedH4135. 6For the children of IsraelH3478 had walkedH1980 fortyH705 yearsH8141 in the wildernessH4057, till the whole nationH1471 of menH376 of warH4421 had perished who had comeH1980 out of EgyptH4714, who had not hearkened to the voiceH6963 of Jehovah; to whom Jehovah had swornH7650 that he would not showH7200 them the landH776 which Jehovah had swornH7650 unto their fathersH1 that he would giveH5414 us, a landH776 flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706. 7And their sonsH1121 [whom] he raisedH6965 up in their stead, them JoshuaH3091 circumcisedH4135, for they wereH1961 uncircumcisedH6189, because they had not circumcisedH4135 them on the wayH1870. 8And it came to pass when the whole nationH1471 had finishedH8552 being circumcisedH4135, that they abode in their placeH8478 in the campH4264, till they were whole. 9And Jehovah saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, This dayH3117 have I rolledH1556 awayH1556 the reproachH2781 of EgyptH4714 from off you. And the nameH8034 of the placeH4725 was calledH7121 GilgalH1537 to this dayH3117. 10And the children of IsraelH3478 encampedH2583 in GilgalH1537, and held the passoverH6453 on the fourteenth dayH3117 of the monthH2320, at even, in the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405. 11And they ateH398 of the old corn of the landH776 on the morrow after the passoverH6453, unleavenedH4682 loaves, and roastedH7033 [corn] on that same dayH3117. 12And the mannaH4478 ceased on the morrow, when they had eatenH398 of the old corn of the landH776; and there wasH1961 no more mannaH4478 for the children of IsraelH3478; and they ateH398 of the produceH8393 of the landH776 of CanaanH3667 that yearH8141. 13And it came to pass when JoshuaH3091 wasH1961 by JerichoH3405, that he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and behold, there stoodH5975 a manH376 before him with his swordH2719 drawnH8025 in his handH3027. And JoshuaH3091 went to him, and saidH559 to him: Art thou for us, or for our enemies? 14And he saidH559, No; for [as] captain of the armyH6635 of Jehovah am I nowH6258 comeH935. Then JoshuaH3091 fellH5307 upon his faceH6440 to the earthH776, and worshipped, and saidH559 to him, What saith my lord unto his servantH5650? 15And the captain of Jehovah's armyH6635 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, Loose thy sandalH5275 from off thy footH7272: for the placeH4725 whereon thou standest is holyH6944. And JoshuaH3091 did soH3651.
