Joshua 7

1But the children of IsraelH3478 committed unfaithfulnessH4604 in that which had been brought under the curse: AchanH5912, the sonH1121 of CarmiH3756, the sonH1121 of ZabdiH2067, the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226, of the tribeH4294 of JudahH3063, tookH3947 of the accursed thing; and the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against the children of IsraelH3478. 2And JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 menH376 from JerichoH3405 to Ai, which is beside Beth-Aven, on the eastH6924 side of Bethel, and spoke to them, sayingH559, GoH5927 up and spyH7270 out the country. And the menH376 wentH5927 up and spiedH7270 out Ai. 3And they returnedH7725 to JoshuaH3091, and saidH559 to him, Let not all the peopleH5971 goH5927 up; let about two or threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 goH5927 up and smite Ai; make not all the peopleH5971 to toil thither, for they are fewH4592. 4And there wentH5927 up thither of the peopleH5971 about threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376, but they fledH5127 before the menH376 of Ai. 5And the menH376 of Ai smote of them about thirty-six menH376; and they pursuedH7291 them from before the gateH8179 to Shebarim, and smote them on the descentH4174. Oh that we had been content and had remainedH3427 beyond the JordanH3383! 8Ah LordH136! what shall I sayH559 after IsraelH3478 have turnedH2015 their backsH6203 before their enemiesH341? 9When the CanaanitesH3669 and all the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 shall hearH8085 [of it], they will surroundH5437 us, and cutH3772 off our nameH8034 from the earthH776. And what wilt thou do unto thy greatH1419 nameH8034? 10And Jehovah saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, RiseH6965 up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy faceH6440? 11IsraelH3478 hath sinnedH2398, and they have alsoH1571 transgressed my covenantH1285 which I commandedH6680 them, and they have even takenH3947 of the accursed thingH3627, and have alsoH1571 stolenH1589, and dissembled alsoH1571, and they have putH7760 it among their stuff. 12And the children of IsraelH3478 shall not beH1961 ableH3201 to standH6965 before their enemiesH341: they shall turnH6437 their backsH6203 before their enemiesH341, for they have made themselves accursed. I will no more beH1961 with you, except ye destroyH8045 the accursed thing from your midstH7130. 13RiseH6965 up, hallow the peopleH5971, and sayH559, Hallow yourselves for to-morrow; for thusH3541 saith Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478, There is an accursed thing in the midstH7130 of thee, IsraelH3478: thou shalt not be ableH3201 to standH6965 before thine enemiesH341, until ye take awayH5493 the accursed thing from your midstH7130. 14And ye shall beH1961 broughtH7126 near in the morningH1242 according to your tribesH7626; and it shall beH1961, that the tribeH7626 which Jehovah taketh shall come forward by familiesH4940, and the familyH4940 which Jehovah taketh shall come forward by householdsH1004; and the householdH1004 which Jehovah taketh shall come forward manH1397 by manH1397. 15And it shall beH1961, that he who is takenH3920 with the accursed thing shall beH1961 burnedH8313 with fireH784, he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenantH1285 of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought wickedness in IsraelH3478. 16And JoshuaH3091 roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and caused IsraelH3478 to come forward by their tribesH7626, and the tribeH7626 of JudahH3063 was takenH3920. 17And he caused the familiesH4940 of JudahH3063 to come forward, and he tookH3920 the familyH4940 of the Zarhites. And he caused the familyH4940 of the Zarhites to come forward manH1397 by manH1397, and ZabdiH2067 was takenH3920. 18And he caused his householdH1004 to come forward manH1397 by manH1397, and AchanH5912, the sonH1121 of CarmiH3756, the sonH1121 of ZabdiH2067, the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226, of the tribeH4294 of JudahH3063, was takenH3920. 19And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to AchanH5912, My sonH1121, giveH5414, I pray thee, gloryH3519 to Jehovah the 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and makeH7760 confession to him: tellH5046 me now what thou hast done, keep it not back from me. 20And AchanH5912 answered JoshuaH3091 and saidH559, Indeed I have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah the 3GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and thus and thus have I done. 21I sawH7200 among the spoilsH7998 a beautiful mantle of ShinarH8152, and two hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, and a golden bar of fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 weightH4948, and I covetedH2530 them and tookH3947 them; and behold, they are hidH2934 in the earthH776 in the midstH8432 of my tentH168, and the silverH3701 under it. 22And JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 messengersH4397, and they ranH7323 to the tentH168, and behold, it was hidH2934 in his tentH168, and the silverH3701 under it. 23And they tookH3947 them out of the midstH8432 of the tentH168, and broughtH935 them to JoshuaH3091 and to all the children of IsraelH3478, and laid them out before Jehovah. 24Then JoshuaH3091, and all IsraelH3478 with him, tookH3947 AchanH5912 the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226, and the silverH3701, and the mantle, and the bar of goldH2091, and his sonsH1121, and his daughtersH1323, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheepH6629, and his tentH168, and all that he had; and they broughtH5927 them up into the valleyH6010 of AchorH5911. 25And JoshuaH3091 saidH559, HowH4100 hast thou troubledH5916 us! Jehovah will troubleH5916 thee this dayH3117. And all IsraelH3478 stonedH5619 him with stonesH68; and they burnedH8313 them with fireH784, and stonedH5619 them with stonesH68. 26And they raisedH6965 over him a greatH1419 heapH1530 of stonesH68, [which is there] to this dayH3117. And Jehovah turnedH7725 from the fierceness of his angerH639. ThereforeH3651 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 was calledH7121, The ValleyH6010 of AchorH5911, to this dayH3117.
