Joshua 4
Darby Bible
1And it came to passH5674 when the whole nationH1471 had completely gone over the JordanH3383, that Jehovah spoke to JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, 2TakeH3947 you twelve menH376 out of the peopleH5971, oneH259 manH376 out of every tribeH7626, 3and commandH6680 them, sayingH559, TakeH5375 up hence out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, from the placeH4411 whereH834 the priests' feetH7272 stood firm, twelve stonesH68, and carryH5375 them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place whereH834 ye shall lodge this nightH3915. 4And JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 the twelve menH376, whom he had appointedH3559 of the children of IsraelH3478, a manH376 out of every tribeH7626; 5and JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to them, PassH5674 before the arkH727 of Jehovah your 1GodH430 into the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, and liftH7311 up each of you a stoneH68 [and put it] upon his shoulderH7926, according to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the children of IsraelH3478, 6that this may beH1961 a signH226 in your midstH7130. When your children askH7592 hereafter, sayingH559, What mean ye by these stonesH68? 7then ye shall sayH559 to them, That the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 were cutH3772 off before the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah; when it went through the JordanH3383, the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 were cutH3772 off. And these stonesH68 shall beH1961 for a memorialH2146 unto the children of IsraelH3478 for everH5769. 8And the children of IsraelH3478 did soH3651, as JoshuaH3091 had commandedH6680, and tookH5375 up twelve stonesH68 out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, as Jehovah had spokenH1696 to JoshuaH3091, according to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the children of IsraelH3478; and they carriedH5375 them over with them to the lodging-place, and laid them down there. 9And twelve stonesH68 did JoshuaH3091 setH6965 up in the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, in the placeH8478 where the feetH7272 of the priestsH3548 who boreH5375 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 had stoodH6965 firm; and they are there to this dayH3117. 10And the priestsH3548 who boreH5375 the arkH727 stoodH5975 in the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, until everythingH3605 was finishedH8552 that Jehovah had commandedH6680 JoshuaH3091 to speakH1696 unto the peopleH5971, according to all that MosesH4872 had commandedH6680 JoshuaH3091. And the peopleH5971 hasted and passedH5674 over. 11And it came to passH5674, when all the peopleH5971 had completely gone over, that the arkH727 of Jehovah went over, and the priestsH3548, in the presenceH6440 of the peopleH5971. 12And the children of ReubenH7205, and the children of GadH1410, and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519, went over in arrayH2571 before the children of IsraelH3478, as MosesH4872 had spokenH1696 to them. 13About fortyH705 thousandH505 armedH2502 for military serviceH6635 passedH5674 over before Jehovah to the warH4421, unto the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405. 14On that dayH3117 Jehovah magnifiedH1431 JoshuaH3091 in the sight of all IsraelH3478; and they fearedH3372 him, as they had fearedH3372 MosesH4872, all the daysH3117 of his life. 15And Jehovah spoke to JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, 16CommandH6680 the priestsH3548 who bearH5375 the arkH727 of the testimonyH5715, that they comeH5927 up out of the JordanH3383. 17And JoshuaH3091 commandedH6680 the priestsH3548, sayingH559, ComeH5927 up out of the JordanH3383. 18And it came to pass when the priestsH3548 who boreH5375 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah had come up out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, [when] the solesH3709 of the priests' feetH7272 wereH1961 liftedH5375 up on to the dryH2724 land, that the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 returnedH7725 to their placeH4725, and they flowed as previously, over all its banksH1415. 19And the peopleH5971 cameH5927 up out of the JordanH3383 on the tenth of the firstH7223 monthH2320, and encampedH2583 in GilgalH1537, on the eastern extremity of JerichoH3405. 20And those twelve stonesH68 which they had takenH3947 out of the JordanH3383 did JoshuaH3091 setH6965 up in GilgalH1537. 21And he spoke to the children of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, WhenH834 your children hereafter askH7592 their fathersH1, sayingH559, What [mean] these stonesH68? 22then ye shall let your children knowH3045, sayingH559, On dryH3004 landH3004 did IsraelH3478 come over this JordanH3383; 23because Jehovah your 2GodH430 driedH3001 up the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 from before you, until ye had passedH5674 over, as Jehovah your 3GodH430 did to the Red seaH3220, which he driedH3001 up from before us, until we had passedH5674 over; 24that all peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 might knowH3045 the handH3027 of Jehovah, that it is mightyH2389; that ye might fearH3372 Jehovah your 4GodH430 continually.
