1 Kings 17
Darby Bible
1And ElijahH452 the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of GileadH1568, saidH559 to AhabH256, As Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478 liveth, before whom I standH5975, there shall not beH1961 dewH2919 nor rainH4306 these yearsH8141, except by my wordH1697. 2And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to him sayingH559, 3Get thee hence, and turnH6437 thee eastward, and hideH5641 thyself by the torrent Cherith, which is before the JordanH3383. 4And it shall beH1961, that thou shalt drinkH8354 of the torrent; and I have commandedH6680 the ravensH6158 to feed thee there. 5And he went and did according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah; he went and abode by the torrent Cherith, which is before the JordanH3383. 6And the ravensH6158 broughtH935 him breadH3899 and fleshH1320 in the morningH1242, and breadH3899 and fleshH1320 in the eveningH6153; and he drankH8354 of the torrent. 7And it came to pass after a while that the torrent driedH3001 up, for there had beenH1961 no rainH1653 in the landH776. 8And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to him sayingH559, 9AriseH6965, go to ZarephathH6886, which is by Zidon, and abide there: behold, I have commandedH6680 a widowH490 womanH802 there to maintain thee. 10And he aroseH6965 and wentH935 to ZarephathH6886; and when he cameH935 to the entranceH6607 of the cityH5892, behold, a widowH490 womanH802 was there gatheringH7197 sticks. And he calledH7121 to her and saidH559, Fetch me, I pray thee, a littleH4592 waterH4325 in a vesselH3627, that I may drinkH8354. 11And she went to fetch [it], and he calledH7121 to her and saidH559, Bring me, I pray thee, a morselH6595 of breadH3899 in thy handH3027. 12And she saidH559, As Jehovah thy 2GodH430 liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a littleH4592 oilH8081 in a cruse; and behold, I am gatheringH7197 twoH8147 sticks, that I may goH935 in and dress it for me and my sonH1121, that we may eatH398 it, and dieH4191. 13And ElijahH452 saidH559 to her, FearH3372 not; goH3318, do as thou hast saidH559; but makeH6213 me thereof a littleH6996 cakeH5692 firstH7223; and bringH935 it to me; and afterwards makeH6213 for thee and for thy sonH1121. 14For thusH3541 saith Jehovah the 3GodH430 of IsraelH3478: The meal in the barrel shall not waste, neither shall the oilH8081 in the cruse failH3615, until the dayH3117 that Jehovah sendeth rainH1653 upon the faceH6440 of the earthH127! 15And she went and did according to the wordH1697 of ElijahH452; and she, and he, and her houseH1004, ateH398 a whole year. 16The meal in the barrel did not waste, neither did the oilH8081 in the cruse failH3615, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah which he had spokenH1696 through ElijahH452. 17And it came to pass after these thingsH1697, that the sonH1121 of the womanH802, the mistressH1172 of the houseH1004, fell sickH2470; and his sicknessH2483 wasH1961 so severeH2389 that there wasH1961 no breathH5397 leftH3498 in him. 18And she saidH559 to ElijahH452, What have I to do with thee, O thou manH376 of 4GodH430? art thou comeH935 to me to call mine iniquityH5771 to remembranceH2142, and to slay my sonH1121? 19And he saidH559 to her, GiveH5414 me thy sonH1121. And he tookH3947 him out of her bosomH2436, and carried him up into the upperH5944 chamberH5944 whereH834 he abode, and laidH7901 him upon his own bedH4296. 20And he cried to Jehovah and saidH559, Jehovah, my 5GodH430, hast thou alsoH1571 brought evilH7489 upon the widowH490 with whom I sojourn, by slaying her sonH1121? 21And he stretched himself upon the childH3206 threeH7969 timesH6471, and cried to Jehovah and saidH559, Jehovah, my 6GodH430, I pray thee, let this child's soulH5315 come into him again! 22And Jehovah heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of ElijahH452, and the soulH5315 of the childH3206 came into him again, and he livedH2421. 23And ElijahH452 tookH3947 the childH3206, and brought him downH3381 from the upperH5944 chamberH5944 into the houseH1004, and delivered him to his motherH517; and ElijahH452 saidH559, SeeH7200, thy sonH1121 livesH2416. 24And the womanH802 saidH559 to ElijahH452, NowH6258 by this I knowH3045 that thou art a manH376 of 7GodH430, and that the wordH1697 of Jehovah in thy mouthH6310 is truthH571.
