Elijah Predicts Drought
1Now ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, who was of 12the settlersH8453 of GileadH1568, saidH559 to AhabH256, “3As the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 livesH2416, beforeH6440 whomH834 I standH5975, surelyH518 4there shall be neitherH518 dewH2919 nor rainH4306 theseH428 yearsH8141, exceptH3588H518 by my wordH1697.” 2The wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to him, sayingH559, 3“GoH1980 away from hereH2088 and turnH6437 eastwardH6924, and hideH5641 yourself by the brookH5158 CherithH3747, whichH834 is 5eastH5921H6440 of the JordanH3383. 4It shall be that you will drinkH8354 of the brookH5158, and 6I have commandedH6680 the ravensH6158 to provideH3557 for you thereH8033.” 5So he wentH1980 and didH6213 according to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, for he wentH1980 and livedH3427 by the brookH5158 CherithH3747, whichH834 is 7eastH5921H6440 of the JordanH3383. 6The ravensH6158 broughtH935 him breadH3899 and meatH1320 in the morningH1242 and breadH3899 and meatH1320 in the eveningH6153, and he would drinkH8354 from the brookH5158. 7It happenedH1961 afterH4480H7093 a whileH3117 that the brookH5158 driedH3001 up, becauseH3588 there was noH3808 rainH1653 in the landH776.
8Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to him, sayingH559, 9“AriseH6965, goH1980 to 8ZarephathH6886, whichH834 belongs to SidonH6721, and stayH3427 thereH8033; beholdH2009, 9I have commandedH6680 a widowH490 thereH8033 to provideH3557 for you.” 10So he aroseH6965 and wentH1980 to ZarephathH6886, and when he cameH935 to the gateH6607 of the cityH5892, beholdH2009, a widowH490 was thereH8033 gatheringH7197 sticksH6086; and 10he calledH7121 to her and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 getH3947 me a littleH4592 waterH4325 in a 11jarH3627, that I may drinkH8354.” 11As she was goingH1980 to getH3947 it, he calledH7121 to her and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 bringH3947 me a pieceH6595 of breadH3899 in your handH3027.” 12But she saidH559, “12As the LordH3068 your GodH430 livesH2416, 13I haveH3426 noH518 14breadH4580, onlyH3588H518 a handfulH4393H3709 of flourH7058 in the 15bowlH3537 and a littleH4592 oilH8081 in the jarH6835; and beholdH2009, I am gatheringH7197 16a fewH8147 sticksH6086 that I may goH935 in and prepareH6213 for me and my sonH1121, that we may eatH398 it and 17dieH4191.” 13Then ElijahH452 saidH559 to her, “Do not fearH3372; goH935, doH6213 as you have saidH1697, but makeH6213 me a littleH6996 breadH5692 cakeH5692 from 18it firstH7223 and bringH3318 it out to me, and afterwardH314 you may makeH6213 one for yourself and for your sonH1121. 14For thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘The 19bowlH3537 of flourH7058 shall not be exhaustedH3615, norH3808 shall the jarH6835 of oilH8081 20be emptyH2637, untilH5704 the dayH3117 that the LordH3068 sendsH5414 rainH1653 on the faceH6440 of the earthH127.’” 15So she wentH1980 and didH6213 according to the wordH1697 of ElijahH452, and she and he and her householdH1004 ateH398 for many daysH3117. 16The 21bowlH3537 of flourH7058 was not exhaustedH3615 norH3808 did the jarH6835 of oilH8081 22becomeH2637 emptyH2637, according to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He spokeH1696 throughH3027 ElijahH452.
Elijah Raises the Widow’s Son
17Now it cameH1961 about afterH310 theseH428 thingsH1697 that the sonH1121 of the womanH802, the mistressH1172 of the houseH1004, becameH2470 sickH2470; and his sicknessH2483 was soH3966 severeH2389 that there was noH3808 breathH5397 leftH3498 in him. 18So she saidH559 to ElijahH452, “23WhatH4100 do I have to do with you, O 24manH376 of GodH430? 25You have comeH935 to me to bringH2142 my iniquityH5771 to remembranceH2142 and to putH4191 my sonH1121 to deathH4191!” 19He saidH559 to her, “GiveH5414 me your sonH1121.” Then he tookH3947 him from her bosomH2436 and carriedH5927 him up to the upperH5944 roomH5944 whereH834H8033 he was livingH3427, and laidH7901 him on his own bedH4296. 20He calledH7121 to the LordH3068 and saidH559, “O LordH3068 my GodH430, have You alsoH1571 broughtH7489 calamityH7489 to the widowH490 with whomH834 I am 26stayingH1481, by causing her sonH1121 to dieH4191?” 2127Then he stretchedH4058 himself upon the childH3206 threeH7969 timesH6471, and calledH7121 to the LordH3068 and saidH559, “O LordH3068 my GodH430, I prayH4994 You, let thisH2088 child’sH3206 lifeH5315 returnH7725 28to him.” 22The LordH3068 heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of ElijahH452, 29and the lifeH5315 of the childH3206 returnedH7725 30to him and he revivedH2421. 23ElijahH452 tookH3947 the childH3206 and broughtH3381 him downH3381 from the upperH5944 roomH5944 into the houseH1004 and gaveH5414 him to his motherH517; and ElijahH452 saidH559, “SeeH7200, your sonH1121 is aliveH2416.” 24Then the womanH802 saidH559 to ElijahH452, “31NowH6258 I knowH3045 that you are a manH376 of GodH430 and that the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 in your mouthH6310 is truthH571.”
