1 Kings 11
Darby Bible
1But kingH4428 SolomonH8010 lovedH157 manyH7227 foreignH5237 womenH802, besides the daughterH1323 of PharaohH6547: womenH802 of the MoabitesH4125, AmmonitesH5984, EdomitesH130, Zidonians, HittitesH2850; 2of the nationsH1471 of which Jehovah had saidH559 to the children of IsraelH3478, Ye shall not goH935 in to them, neither shall they comeH935 in to you; they would certainly turnH5186 away your heartH3824 after their 1godsH430: to these SolomonH8010 was attached in loveH160. 3And he had sevenH7651 hundredH3967 wivesH802, princesses, and threeH7969 hundredH3967 concubinesH6370; and his wivesH802 turnedH5186 away his heartH3820. 4And it came to pass when SolomonH8010 wasH1961 oldH2209, [that] his wivesH802 turnedH5186 away his heartH3824 after otherH312 2godsH430; and his heartH3824 wasH1961 not perfectH8003 with Jehovah his 3GodH430, as the heartH3824 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1. 5And SolomonH8010 went after Ashtoreth the 4goddess of the Zidonians, and after MilcomH4445 the abominationH8251 of the AmmonitesH5984. 6And SolomonH8010 did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, and followed not fully Jehovah, as DavidH1732 his fatherH1. 7ThenH227 did SolomonH8010 buildH1129 a highH1116 placeH1116 for ChemoshH3645 the abominationH8251 of the Moabites, on the hillH2022 that is before JerusalemH3389, and for MolechH4432 the abominationH8251 of the children of AmmonH5983. 8And so he did for all his foreignH5237 wivesH802, who burned incenseH6999 and sacrificedH2076 to their 5godsH430. 9And Jehovah was angryH599 with SolomonH8010, because his heartH3824 was turnedH5186 away from Jehovah the 6GodH430 of IsraelH3478, who had appearedH7200 to him twice, 10and had commandedH6680 him concerning this thingH1697, not to go after otherH312 7godsH430; but he keptH8104 not what Jehovah had commandedH6680. 11And Jehovah saidH559 to SolomonH8010, Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou hast not keptH8104 my covenantH1285 and my statutesH2708 which I commandedH6680 thee, I will certainly rend the kingdomH4467 from thee, and will giveH5414 it to thy servantH5650: 12notwithstanding in thy daysH3117 I will not do it, for DavidH1732 thy father's sakeH4616; I will rend it out of the handH3027 of thy sonH1121; 13onlyH7535, I will not rend awayH7167 all the kingdomH4467: I will giveH5414 oneH259 tribeH7626 to thy sonH1121, for DavidH1732 my servant's sakeH4616, and for Jerusalem's sakeH4616 which I have chosenH977. 14And Jehovah stirred up an adversaryH7854 to SolomonH8010, HadadH1908 the EdomiteH130; he was of the king's seedH2233 in EdomH123. 15Now it came to pass when DavidH1732 wasH1961 in EdomH123, when JoabH3097 the captain of the hostH6635 had goneH5927 up to buryH6912 the slain, after he had smitten every maleH2145 in EdomH123 16(for JoabH3097 abode there sixH8337 monthsH2320 with all IsraelH3478, until he had cutH3772 off every maleH2145 in EdomH123), 17that HadadH1908 fledH1272, he and certain EdomitesH130 of his father's servantsH5650 with him, to goH935 into EgyptH4714, HadadH1908 being yet a littleH6996 child. 18And they aroseH6965 out of MidianH4080, and cameH935 to ParanH6290, and tookH3947 menH376 with them out of ParanH6290, and they cameH935 to EgyptH4714, to PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714; who gaveH5414 him a houseH1004, and appointed him victuals, and gaveH5414 him landH776. 19And HadadH1908 foundH4672 great favour in the sight of PharaohH6547, and he gaveH5414 him as wifeH802 the sisterH269 of his ownH5869 wifeH802, the sisterH269 of TahpenesH8472 the queen. 20And the sisterH269 of TahpenesH8472 boreH3205 him GenubathH1592 his sonH1121; and TahpenesH8472 broughtH3205 him up in Pharaoh's houseH1004; and GenubathH1592 wasH1961 in Pharaoh's householdH1004, among the sonsH1121 of PharaohH6547. 21And HadadH1908 heardH8085 in EgyptH4714 that DavidH1732 slept with his fathersH1, and that JoabH3097 the captain of the hostH6635 was deadH4191; and HadadH1908 saidH559 to PharaohH6547, Let me depart, that I may goH7971 to mine own country. 22And PharaohH6547 saidH559 to him, What then dost thou lackH2638 with me, that behold, thou desirest to goH7971 to thine own country? And he saidH559, Nothing; but in any case let me depart. 238GodH430 stirred him up yet an adversaryH7854, Rezon the sonH1121 of EliadaH450, who had fledH1272 from HadadezerH1909 kingH4428 of ZobahH6678, his lordH113. 24And he collected menH376 to him, and becameH1961 captain of a bandH1416, when DavidH1732 slewH2026 them [of Zobah]; and they went to DamascusH1834, and dweltH3427 there, and reignedH4427 in DamascusH1834. 25And he wasH1961 an adversaryH7854 to IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of SolomonH8010, besides the mischief that HadadH1908 [did]; and he abhorred IsraelH3478, and reignedH4427 over Syria. 26And JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, an EphrathiteH673 of ZeredahH6868, Solomon's servantH5650 (whose mother's nameH8034 was Zeruah, a widowH490 womanH802), even he liftedH7311 up his handH3027 against the kingH4428. 27And this was the cause that he liftedH7311 up his handH3027 against the kingH4428: SolomonH8010 was buildingH1129 MilloH4407, and closing the breachH6556 of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1; 28and the manH376 JeroboamH3379 was strong and valiant; and SolomonH8010 sawH7200 the youngH5288 manH376 that he was industrious, and he madeH6213 him ruler over all the charge of the houseH1004 of JosephH3130. 29And it came to pass at that timeH6256 that JeroboamH3379 wentH3318 out of JerusalemH3389, and the prophetH5030 AhijahH281 the ShiloniteH7888 foundH4672 him in the wayH1870; and he had clad himself with a newH2319 garmentH8008; and they twoH8147 wereH1961 aloneH905 in the fieldH7704. 30Then AhijahH281 seizedH8610 the newH2319 garmentH8008 that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces; 31and saidH559 to JeroboamH3379, TakeH3947 thee tenH6235 pieces; for thusH3541 saith Jehovah the 9GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Behold, I will rend the kingdomH4467 out of the handH3027 of SolomonH8010, and will giveH5414 tenH6235 tribesH7626 to thee; 32but oneH259 tribeH7626 shall he have for my servantH5650 David's sakeH4616, and for Jerusalem's sakeH4616, the cityH5892 which I have chosenH977 out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478: 33because they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the 10goddess of the Zidonians, ChemoshH3645 the 11godH430 of the Moabites, and MilcomH4445 the 12godH430 of the children of AmmonH5983, and have not walkedH1980 in my waysH1870, to do that which is rightH3477 in my sight, and my statutesH2708 and mine ordinancesH4941, as DavidH1732 his fatherH1. 34But I will not takeH3947 the whole kingdomH4467 out of his handH3027; for I will makeH7896 him princeH5387 all the daysH3117 of his life for DavidH1732 my servant's sakeH4616, whom I choseH977, who keptH8104 my commandmentsH4687 and my statutesH2708; 35but I will takeH3947 the kingdom out of his son's handH3027, and will giveH5414 it unto thee, — the tenH6235 tribesH7626. 36And unto his sonH1121 will I giveH5414 oneH259 tribeH7626, that DavidH1732 my servantH5650 may have a lampH5216 always before me in JerusalemH3389, the cityH5892 that I have chosenH977 for myself to putH5414 my nameH8034 there. 37And I will takeH3947 thee, that thou mayest reignH4427 over all that thy soulH5315 desireth, and thou shalt beH1961 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 38And it shall beH1961, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I commandH6680 thee, and wilt walkH1980 in my waysH1870, and do that which is rightH3477 in my sight, in keepingH8104 my statutesH2708 and my commandmentsH4687, as DavidH1732 my servantH5650 did, that I will beH1961 with thee, and buildH1129 thee a lastingH539 houseH1004, as I builtH1129 for DavidH1732, and will giveH5414 IsraelH3478 unto thee. 39And I will for this afflictH6031 the seedH2233 of DavidH1732, but not for ever. 40And SolomonH8010 soughtH1245 to killH4191 JeroboamH3379; and JeroboamH3379 aroseH6965 and fledH1272 into EgyptH4714, to ShishakH7895 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714; and he wasH1961 in EgyptH4714 until the deathH4191 of SolomonH8010. 41And the restH3499 of the acts of SolomonH8010, and all that he did, and his wisdomH2451, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the acts of SolomonH8010? 42And the time that SolomonH8010 reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 over all IsraelH3478 was fortyH705 yearsH8141. 43And SolomonH8010 slept with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1; and RehoboamH7346 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
