The Ravens Feed Elijah

1Now ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, who was among the settlersH8453 of GileadH1568,1 saidH559 toH413 AhabH256, “As surely as the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, livesH2416, before whomH6440 I standH5975, there will beH1961 neitherH518 dewH2919 nor rainH4306 in theseH428 yearsH8141 exceptH3588H518 atH6310 my wordH1697!”

2Then a revelationH1697 from the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413H559 Elijah: 3“LeaveH1980 hereH2088, turnH6437 eastwardH6924, and hide yourselfH5641 by the BrookH5158 of CherithH3747, east ofH834H5921H6440 the JordanH3383.2 4AndH1961 you are to drinkH8354 from the brookH5158, and I have commandedH6680 the ravensH6158 to feed youH3557 thereH8033.”

5So Elijah didH6213 what the LORDH3068H1980 had told himH1697, and he wentH1980 and livedH3427 by the BrookH5158 of CherithH3747, east ofH834H5921H6440 the JordanH3383. 6The ravensH6158 would bringH935 him breadH3899 and meatH1320 in the morningH1242H3899H1320 and eveningH6153, and he would drinkH8354 fromH4480 the brookH5158. 7Some time later, howeverH1961H7093H3117, the brookH5158 dried upH3001 becauseH3588 there had beenH1961 noH3808 rainH1653 in the landH776.

The Widow of Zarephath

8Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413H559 Elijah: 9“Get upH6965 and goH1980 to ZarephathH6886 of SidonH6721, and stayH3427 thereH8033. BeholdH2009, I have commandedH6680 a widowH802H490 thereH8033 to provide for youH3557.”

10So Elijah got upH6965 and wentH1980 to ZarephathH6886. When he arrivedH935 atH413 the cityH5892H2009 gateH6607, thereH8033 was a widowH490H802 gatheringH7197 sticksH6086. Elijah calledH7121 to herH413 and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 bringH3947 me a littleH4592 waterH4325 in a cupH3627, so that I may drinkH8354.” 11And as she was goingH1980 to getH3947 it, he calledH7121 to herH413 and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 bringH3947 me a pieceH6595 of breadH3899.”

12But she repliedH559, “As surely as the LORDH3068 your GodH430 livesH2416, I haveH3426 noH518 breadH4580—onlyH3588H518 a handfulH4393H3709 of flourH7058 in a jarH3537 and a littleH4592 oilH8081 in a jugH6835. LookH2005, I am gatheringH7197 a couple ofH8147 sticksH6086 to take homeH935 and prepareH6213 a meal for myself and my sonH1121, so that we may eat itH398 and dieH4191.”

13“Do notH408 be afraidH3372,” ElijahH452 saidH559 to herH413. “GoH935 and doH6213 as you have saidH1697. ButH389 firstH7223 makeH6213 me a smallH6996 cake of breadH5692 fromH8033 what you have, and bring it outH3318 to me. AfterwardH314, makeH6213 some for yourself and your sonH1121, 14forH3588 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, saysH559: ‘The jarH3537 of flourH7058 will notH3808 be exhaustedH3615 and the jugH6835 of oilH8081 will notH3808 run dryH2637 untilH5704 the dayH3117 the LORDH3068 sendsH5414 rainH1653 uponH5921 the faceH6440 of the earthH127.’”

15So she wentH1980 and didH6213 according to the wordH1697 of ElijahH452, and there was foodH398 every dayH3117 for ElijahH1931 and the womanH1931 and her householdH1004. 16The jarH3537 of flourH7058 was notH3808 exhaustedH3615 and the jugH6835 of oilH8081 did notH3808 run dryH2637, according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 ElijahH452.

Elijah Raises the Widow’s Son

LaterH310H1697H428, the sonH1121 of the womanH802 who ownedH1172 the houseH1004H1961 became illH2470, and his sicknessH2483 grew worseH2389 and worseH3966, untilH5704 noH3808 breathH5397 remainedH3498 in him. 18“O manH376 of GodH430,” saidH559 the woman toH413 ElijahH452, “whatH4100 have you done to me? Have you comeH935H413 to remind meH2142 of my iniquityH5771 and cause the deathH4191 of my sonH1121?”

19But Elijah saidH559 to herH413, “GiveH5414 me your sonH1121.”

So he took himH3947 from her armsH2436, carried himH5927 toH413 the upper roomH5944 whereH834 heH1931 was stayingH3427H8033, and laid himH7901 onH5921 his own bedH4296. 20Then he cried outH7121 toH413 the LORDH3068, “O LORDH3068 my GodH430, have You alsoH1571 brought tragedyH7489 onH5921 this widowH490 who has opened her home to meH589H1481H5973, by causingH4191 her son to dieH1121?” 21Then he stretched himself outH4058 overH5921 the childH3206 threeH7969 timesH6471 and cried outH7121 toH413 the LORDH3068, “O LORDH3068 my GodH430, pleaseH4994 let thisH2088 boy’sH3206 lifeH5315 returnH7725 toH5921 himH7130!”

22And the LORDH3068 listenedH8085 to the voiceH6963 of ElijahH452, and the child’sH3206 lifeH5315 returnedH7725 toH5921 himH7130, and he livedH2421. 23Then ElijahH452 tookH3947 the childH3206, brought him downH3381 fromH4480 the upper roomH5944 into the houseH1004, and gave himH5414 to his motherH517. “LookH7200, your sonH1121 is aliveH2416,” ElijahH452 declaredH559.

24Then the womanH802 saidH559 toH413 ElijahH452, “NowH6258H2088 I knowH3045 thatH3588 youH859 are a manH376 of GodH430 and that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 from your mouthH6310 is truthH571.”
