1 Kings 13
Darby Bible
1And behold, there cameH935 a manH376 of 1GodH430 from JudahH3063, by the wordH1697 of Jehovah, to Bethel; and JeroboamH3379 stoodH5975 by the altarH4196 to burn incenseH6999. 2And he cried against the altarH4196 by the wordH1697 of Jehovah, and saidH559, O altarH4196, altarH4196! thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, a child shall be bornH3205 unto the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, JosiahH2977 by nameH8034; and upon thee shall he sacrificeH2076 the priestsH3548 of the highH1116 placesH1116 that burnH8313 incenseH6999 upon thee, and men's bonesH6106 shall be burnedH8313 upon thee. 3And he gaveH5414 a signH4159 the same dayH3117, sayingH559, This is the signH4159 that Jehovah hath spokenH1696: Behold, the altarH4196 shall be rent, and the ashesH1880 that are upon it shall be pouredH8210 out. 4And it came to pass when the kingH4428 heardH8085 the wordH1697 of the manH376 of 2GodH430, which he cried against the altarH4196 in Bethel, that JeroboamH3379 stretchedH7971 forthH7971 his handH3027 from the altarH4196, sayingH559, Lay hold on him. And his handH3027 which he stretchedH7971 out against him driedH3001 up, so that he could not bringH7725 it backH7725 again to him. 5And the altarH4196 was rent, and the ashesH1880 pouredH8210 out from the altarH4196, according to the signH4159 that the manH376 of 3GodH430 had givenH5414 by the wordH1697 of Jehovah. 6And the kingH4428 answered and saidH559 to the manH376 of 4GodH430, Intreat now Jehovah thy 5GodH430, and prayH6419 for me, that my handH3027 may beH1961 restoredH7725 to me again. And the manH376 of 6GodH430 intreated Jehovah, and the king's handH3027 wasH1961 restoredH7725 to him again, and becameH1961 as before. 7And the kingH4428 saidH1696 to the manH376 of 7GodH430, ComeH935 home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will giveH5414 thee a present. 8And the manH376 of 8GodH430 saidH559 to the kingH4428, If thou wilt giveH5414 me halfH2677 thy houseH1004, I will not goH935 in with thee, neither will I eatH398 breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 in this placeH4725; 9for soH3651 was it charged me by the wordH1697 of Jehovah, sayingH559, Thou shalt eatH398 no breadH3899, nor drinkH8354 waterH4325, nor returnH7725 by the wayH1870 that thou shalt goH1980. 10So he wentH935 another wayH1870, and returnedH7725 not by the wayH1870 that he had comeH935 to Bethel. 11Now there dweltH3427 a certain old prophetH5030 in Bethel; and his sonsH1121 cameH935 and told him all the worksH4639 that the manH376 of 9GodH430 had done that dayH3117 in Bethel; the wordsH1697 that he had spokenH1696 to the kingH4428, them they told also to their fatherH1. 12And their fatherH1 saidH1696 to them, Which wayH1870 wentH1980 he? for his sonsH1121 had seenH7200 which wayH1870 the manH376 of 10GodH430 wentH1980, who cameH935 from JudahH3063. 13And he saidH559 to his sonsH1121, SaddleH2280 me the ass. So they saddledH2280 him the ass; and he rodeH7392 thereon, 14and wentH935 after the manH376 of 11GodH430, and foundH4672 him sittingH3427 under a terebinthH424; and he saidH559 to him, Art thou the manH376 of 12GodH430 that camest from JudahH3063? And he saidH559, I am. 15And he saidH559 to him, Come home with me, and eatH398 breadH3899. 16And he saidH559, I cannot returnH7725 with thee, nor goH935 in with thee; neither will I eatH398 breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 with thee in this placeH4725. 17For it was said to me by the wordH1697 of Jehovah, Thou shalt eatH398 no breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 there, nor turnH7725 again to goH1980 by the wayH1870 that thou wentest. 18And he saidH559 to him, I am a prophetH5030 alsoH1571 as thou art; and an angelH4397 spokeH1696 to me by the wordH1697 of Jehovah sayingH559, BringH7725 him backH7725 with thee into thy houseH1004, that he may eatH398 breadH3899 and drinkH8354 waterH4325. He lied unto him. 19Then he wentH7725 backH7725 with him, and ateH398 breadH3899 in his houseH1004, and drankH8354 waterH4325. 20And it came to pass as they satH3427 at the tableH7979, that the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to the prophetH5030 that broughtH7725 him backH7725; 21and he cried to the manH376 of 13GodH430 that cameH935 from JudahH3063, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the word of Jehovah, and hast not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 that Jehovah thy 14GodH430 commandedH6680 thee, 22but camest backH7725, and hast eatenH398 breadH3899 and drunkH8354 waterH4325 in the placeH4725 of which he saidH1696 to thee, EatH398 no breadH3899 and drinkH8354 no waterH4325; thy carcase shall not comeH935 to the sepulchre of thy fathersH1. 23And it came to pass, after he had eatenH398 breadH3899, and after he had drunkH8354, that he saddledH2280 the ass for him, for the prophetH5030 that he had broughtH7725 backH7725; 24and he departed. And a lionH738 met him by the wayH1870 and slew him; and his corpseH5038 wasH1961 castH7993 in the wayH1870, and the ass stoodH5975 by it; the lionH738 also stoodH5975 by the corpseH5038. 25And behold, menH376 passedH5674 by, and sawH7200 the corpseH5038 castH7993 in the wayH1870 and the lionH738 standingH5975 by the corpseH5038; and they cameH935 and told it in the cityH5892 whereH834 the oldH2205 prophetH5030 dweltH3427. 26And the prophetH5030 that broughtH7725 him backH7725 from the wayH1870 heardH8085 [of it] and saidH559, It is the manH376 of 15GodH430 who was disobedientH4784 to the wordH1697 of Jehovah; therefore Jehovah has delivered him to the lionH738, which has torn him and slain him, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah which he spokeH1696 to him. 27And he spokeH1696 to his sonsH1121 sayingH559, SaddleH2280 me the ass; and they saddledH2280 it. 28And he went and foundH4672 his corpseH5038 castH7993 in the wayH1870, and the ass and the lionH738 standingH5975 by the corpseH5038: the lionH738 had not eatenH398 the corpseH5038, nor torn the ass. 29And the prophetH5030 tookH5375 up the corpseH5038 of the manH376 of 16GodH430, and laid it upon the ass, and broughtH935 it backH7725; and the oldH2205 prophetH5030 cameH935 into the cityH5892, to mournH5594 and to buryH6912 him. 30And he laid his corpseH5038 in his own sepulchre; and they mournedH5594 over him [saying], AlasH1945, my brotherH251! 31And it came to pass after he had buriedH6912 him, that he spoke to his sonsH1121 sayingH559, When I amH1961 deadH4191, buryH6912 me in the sepulchre in which the manH376 of 17GodH430 is buriedH6912; lay my bonesH6106 beside his bonesH6106. 32For the wordH1697 that he cried by the wordH1697 of Jehovah against the altarH4196 in Bethel, and against all the housesH1004 of the highH1116 placesH1116 that are in the citiesH5892 of SamariaH8111, shall certainly come to pass. 33After this thingH1697 JeroboamH3379 turnedH7725 not from his evilH7451 wayH1870, but madeH6213 again from all classes of the peopleH5971 priestsH3548 of the highH1116 placesH1116: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he becameH1961 [oneH2088] of the priestsH3548 of the highH1116 placesH1116. 34And by this thingH1697 there wasH1961 sinH2403 on the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, even to cut it off and to destroyH8045 it from off the faceH6440 of the earthH127.
