Jeremiah 44:15-26
15Then allH3605 the menH582 who knewH3045 thatH3588 their wivesH802 were burning incenseH6999 to otherH312 godsH430, and allH3605 the womenH802 standing byH5975—a greatH1419 assemblyH6951—along with allH3605 the peopleH5971 livingH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 and in PathrosH6624H559,1 saidH6030 to JeremiahH3414, 16“As for the wordH1697 you have spokenH1696 to usH413 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, we will notH369 listenH8085 to youH413! 17InsteadH3588, we will doH6213 everythingH3605 we vowedH1697 to doH3318H6310: We will burn incenseH6999 to the QueenH4446 of HeavenH8064 and offerH5258 drink offeringsH5262 to her, just asH834 weH587, our fathersH1, our kingsH4428, and our officialsH8269 didH6213 in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389.
At that time we had plentyH7646 of foodH3899H1961 and good thingsH2896, and we sawH7200 noH3808 disasterH7451. 18But from the timeH4480H227 we stoppedH2308 burning incenseH6999 to the QueenH4446 of HeavenH8064 and pouring outH5258 drink offeringsH5262 to her, we have lackedH2637 everythingH3605 and have been perishingH8552 by swordH2719 and famineH7458.”
19“Moreover,” said the women, “whenH3588 weH587 burned incenseH6999 to the QueenH4446 of HeavenH8064 and poured outH5258 drink offeringsH5262 to her, was it withoutH1107 our husbands’ knowledgeH582 that we madeH6213 sacrificial cakesH3561 in her imageH6087 and poured outH5258 drink offeringsH5262 to her?”
20Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 toH413 allH3605 the peopleH5971H5921, both menH1397 andH5921 womenH802, who were answeringH6030 himH853, 21“As for the incenseH6999 you burnedH7002 in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389—youH859, your fathersH1, your kingsH4428, your officialsH8269, and the peopleH5971 of the landH776—did the LORDH3068 notH3808 rememberH2142 and bringH5927 this toH5921 mindH3820? 22So the LORDH3068 couldH3201 noH3808 longerH5750 endureH5375H6440 the evilH7455 deedsH4611H6440 and detestable actsH8441 you committedH6213, and your landH776 becameH1961 a desolationH2723, a horrorH8047, and an object of cursingH7045, withoutH369 inhabitantH3427, as it is thisH2088 dayH3117. 23BecauseH6440 you burned incenseH6999 and sinnedH2398 against the LORDH3068 and did notH3808 obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 or walkH1980 inH5921H3651 His instructionH8451, His statutesH2708, and His testimoniesH5715, thisH2063 disasterH7451 has befallen youH7122, as you see todayH3117H2088.”
24Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 toH413 allH3605 the peopleH5971H413, including allH3605 the womenH802, “HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, all thoseH3605 of JudahH3063 whoH834 are in the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 25This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, saysH559: As for youH859 and your wivesH802, you have spokenH1696 with your mouthsH6310 and fulfilledH4390 with your handsH3027 your wordsH559: ‘We will surely performH6213 our vowsH5088 thatH834 we have madeH5087 to burn incenseH6999 to the QueenH4446 of HeavenH8064 and to pour outH5258 drink offeringsH5262 to her.’ Go ahead, thenH6965, doH6965 what you have promisedH5088H6213! KeepH6213 your vowsH5088!
26NeverthelessH3651, hearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, all youH3605 people of JudahH3063 livingH3427 in EgyptH4714: BeholdH2005, I have swornH7650 by My greatH1419 nameH8034, saysH559 the LORDH3068, that neverH518 againH5750 willH1961 anyH3605 manH376 of JudahH3063 living in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 invokeH7121H6310 My nameH8034 or sayH559, ‘As surely as the LordH136 GODH3069 livesH2416.’
