2 Kings 5

American Standard Version

1Now NaamanH5283, captain of the hostH6635 of the kingH4428 of Syria, wasH1961 a greatH1419 manH376 with his masterH113, and honorable, because by him Jehovah had givenH5414 victoryH8668 unto Syria: he wasH1961 also a mightyH1368 manH376 of valor, but he wasH1961 a leper. 2And the Syrians had goneH3318 out in bandsH1416, and had broughtH3318 away captiveH7617 out of the landH776 of IsraelH3478 a littleH6996 maiden; and she waited on Naaman’s wifeH802. 3And she saidH559 unto her mistressH1404, Would that my lordH113 were with the prophetH5030 that is in SamariaH8111! thenH227 would he recover him of his leprosy. 4And oneH834 wentH935 in, and toldH5046 his lordH113, sayingH559, Thus and thus saidH559 the maiden that is of the landH776 of IsraelH3478. 5And the kingH4428 of Syria saidH559, GoH935 now, and I will sendH7971 a letterH5612 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. And he departed, and tookH3947 with him tenH6235 talentsH3603 of silverH3701, and sixH8337 thousandH505 pieces of goldH2091, and tenH6235 changes of raiment. 6And he broughtH935 the letterH5612 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, And nowH6258 when this letterH5612 is comeH935 unto thee, behold, I have sentH7971 NaamanH5283 my servantH5650 to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. 7And it came to pass, when the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had readH7121 the letterH5612, that he rent his clothesH899, and saidH559, Am I GodH430, to killH4191 and to makeH3045 aliveH2421, that this manH376 doth sendH7971 unto me to recover a manH376 of his leprosy? but considerH7200, I pray you, and seeH7200 how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

8And it wasH1961 so, when ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430 heardH8085 that the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had rent his clothesH899, that he sentH7971 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothesH899? let him comeH935 now to me, and he shall knowH3045 that there is a prophetH5030 in IsraelH3478. 9So NaamanH5283 cameH935 with his horsesH5483 and with his chariotsH7393, and stoodH5975 at the doorH6607 of the houseH1004 of ElishaH477. 10And ElishaH477 sentH7971 a messengerH4397 unto him, sayingH559, GoH1980 and washH7364 in the JordanH3383 sevenH7651 timesH6471, and thy fleshH1320 shall comeH1980 again to thee, and thou shalt be cleanH2891. 11But NaamanH5283 was wroth, and wentH3318 away, and saidH559, Behold, I thought, He will surely comeH3318 out to me, and standH5975, and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of Jehovah his GodH430, and waveH5130 his handH3027 over the placeH4725, and recover the leper. 12Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the riversH5104 of DamascusH1834, betterH2896 than all the watersH4325 of IsraelH3478? may I not washH7364 in them, and be cleanH2891? So he turnedH6437 and went awayH6437 in a rageH2534. 13And his servantsH5650 came near, and spake unto him, and saidH559, My fatherH1, if the prophetH5030 had bid thee do some greatH1419 thingH1697, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, WashH7364, and be cleanH2891? 14Then wentH3381 he downH3381, and dippedH2881 himself sevenH7651 timesH6471 in the JordanH3383, according to the saying of the manH376 of GodH430; and his fleshH1320 cameH3381 again like unto the fleshH1320 of a littleH6996 child, and he was cleanH2891.

15And he returnedH7725 to the manH376 of GodH430, he and all his company, and cameH935, and stoodH5975 before him; and he saidH559, Behold nowH6258, I knowH3045 that there is no GodH430 in all the earthH776, but in IsraelH3478: nowH6258 thereforeH6258, I pray thee, takeH3947 a present of thy servantH5650. 16But he saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, before whom I standH5975, I will receiveH3947 none. And he urged him to takeH3947 it; but he refusedH3985. 17And NaamanH5283 saidH559, If not, yetH5750, I pray thee, let there be givenH5414 to thy servantH5650 two mules’H6505 burdenH4853 of earthH127; for thy servantH5650 will henceforth offer neither burnt-offering nor sacrificeH2077 unto otherH312 godsH430, but unto Jehovah. 18In this thingH1697 Jehovah pardon thy servantH5650: when my masterH113 goeth into the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417 to worship there, and he leaneth on my handH3027, and I bowH7812 myself in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, when I bowH7812 myself in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, Jehovah pardon thy servantH5650 in this thingH1697. 19And he saidH559 unto him, Go in peaceH7965. So he departed from him a little way.

20But GehaziH1522 the servantH5288 of ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430, saidH559, Behold, my masterH113 hath spared this NaamanH5283 the Syrian, in not receivingH3947 at his handsH3027 that which he broughtH935: as Jehovah liveth, I will runH7323 after him, and takeH3947 somewhat of him. 21So GehaziH1522 followed after NaamanH5283. And when NaamanH5283 sawH7200 oneH7200 runningH7323 after him, he alighted from the chariotH4818 to meet him, and saidH559, Is all well? 22And he saidH559, All is well. My masterH113 hath sentH7971 me, sayingH559, Behold, even nowH6258 there are comeH935 to me from the hill-country of EphraimH669 twoH8147 youngH5288 menH5288 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030; giveH5414 them, I pray thee, a talentH3603 of silverH3701, and twoH8147 changes of raiment. 23And NaamanH5283 saidH559, Be pleased to takeH3947 twoH8147 talentsH3603. And he urged him, and bound twoH8147 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 in twoH8147 bags, with twoH8147 changes of raiment, and laid them upon twoH8147 of his servantsH5288; and they bare them before him. 24And when he cameH935 to the hillH6076, he tookH3947 them from their handH3027, and bestowed them in the houseH1004; and he let the menH376 goH935, and they departed. 25But he wentH1980 in, and stoodH5975 before his masterH113. And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, Whence comest thou, GehaziH1522? And he saidH559, Thy servantH5650 wentH1980 no whither. 26And he saidH559 unto him, WentH1980 not my heartH3820 with thee, whenH834 the manH376 turnedH2015 from his chariotH4818 to meet thee? Is it a timeH6256 to receiveH3947 moneyH3701, and to receiveH3947 garmentsH899, and oliveyards and vineyardsH3754, and sheepH6629 and oxenH1241, and men-servants and maid-servants? 27The leprosy therefore of NaamanH5283 shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233 for everH5769. And he wentH3318 out from his presenceH6440 a leper as white as snowH7950.
