2 Kings 5

Revised Version 1895

1NowH1961 NaamanH5283, captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758, was a greatH1419 manH376 with his masterH113, and honourable, becauseH3588 by him the LORDH3068 had givenH5414 victoryH8668 unto SyriaH758: he was also a mightyH1368 manH376 of valour, but he was a leperH6879. 2And the Syrians had goneH3318 outH3318 in bandsH1416, and had broughtH3318 awayH7617 captiveH7617 outH3318 of the landH776 of IsraelH3478 a littleH6996 maid; and sheH6440 waitedH1961 on Naaman’sH5283 wifeH802. 3And sheH834 saidH559 unto herH413 mistressH1404, Would GodH559 my lordH113 were with the prophetH5030 that is in SamariaH8111! then would he recover him of his leprosyH6883. 4And one wentH935 in, and toldH5046 his lordH113, sayingH559, Thus and thus saidH559 the maid that is of the landH776 of IsraelH3478. 5And the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 saidH559, GoH935 to, goH935, and I will sendH7971 a letterH5612 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. And he departedH935, and tookH3947 with him tenH6235 talentsH3603 of silverH3701, and sixH8337 thousandH505 pieces of goldH2091, and tenH6235 changesH2487 of raiment. 6And he broughtH935 the letterH5612 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, And nowH6258 when this letterH5612 is comeH935 unto thee, beholdH2009, I have sentH7971 NaamanH5283 my servantH5650 to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosyH6883. 7And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had readH7121 the letterH5612, that he rent his clothesH899, and saidH559, Am I GodH430, to killH4191 and to makeH3045 aliveH2421, that this manH376 doth sendH7971 unto meH413 to recoverH2421 a manH376 of his leprosyH6883? but considerH7200, I prayH4994 youH3588, and seeH7200 howH3588 he seeketh a quarrelH579 againstH413 meH413. 8And it was soH7971, when ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430 heardH8085 that the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had rent his clothesH899, that he sentH7971 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothesH899? letH7971 him comeH935 nowH4994 to meH413, and he shall knowH3045 that there is a prophetH5030 in IsraelH3478. 9SoH935 NaamanH5283 cameH935 with his horsesH5483 and with his chariotsH7393, and stoodH5975 at the doorH6607 of the houseH1004 of ElishaH477. 10And ElishaH477 sentH7971 a messengerH4397 unto him sayingH559, GoH1980 and washH7364 in JordanH3383 sevenH7651 timesH6471, and thy fleshH1320 shall comeH1980 againH7725 to thee, and thou shalt be cleanH2891. 11But NaamanH5283 was wroth, and wentH3318 awayH622, and saidH559, BeholdH2009, I thoughtH559, He will surelyH3318 comeH3318 outH3318 to meH413, and standH5975, and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 his GodH430, and waveH5130 his handH3027 over the placeH4725, and recover the leperH6879. 12Are notH3808 AbanahH71 and PharparH6554, the riversH5104 of DamascusH1834, betterH2896 thanH3808 allH3605 the watersH4325 of IsraelH3478? may I notH3808 washH7364 in them, and be cleanH2891? SoH3808 he turnedH6437 and went awayH6437 in a rageH2534. 13And his servantsH5650 cameH5066 nearH5066, and spake unto him, and saidH559, My fatherH1, ifH3588 the prophetH5030 had bid thee doH6213 someH1697 greatH1419 thingH1697, wouldest thou notH3808 have doneH6213 it? howH637 muchH637 ratherH3588 then, when he saith to thee, WashH7364, and be cleanH2891? 14Then wentH3381 he downH3381, and dippedH2881 himselfH376 sevenH7651 timesH6471 in JordanH3383, accordingH376 to the sayingH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430: and his fleshH1320 cameH3381 againH7725 like unto the fleshH1320 of a littleH6996 childH5288, and he was cleanH2891. 15And he returnedH7725 to the manH376 of GodH430, he and allH3605 his companyH4264, and cameH935, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him: and he saidH559, BeholdH2009 nowH6258, I knowH3045 that there is noH369 GodH430 in allH3605 the earthH776, but in IsraelH3478: nowH6258 therefore, I prayH4994 thee, takeH3947 a presentH5975 of thy servantH5650. 16But he saidH559, As the LORDH3068 liveth, beforeH6440 whomH834 I standH5975, I will receiveH3947 noneH518. And he urgedH6484 him to takeH3947 it; but he refusedH3985. 17And NaamanH5283 saidH559, IfH518 notH3808, yet I prayH4994 thee letH4994 there be givenH5414 to thy servantH5650 twoH6776 mules’H6505 burdenH4853 of earthH127; for thy servantH5650 will henceforth offerH5414 neitherH3808 burntH5930 offering norH3808 sacrificeH2077 unto otherH312 godsH430, but unto the LORDH3068. 18In this thingH1697 the LORDH3068 pardonH5545 thy servantH5650; when my masterH113 goeth intoH935 the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417 to worshipH7812 there, and he leaneth on my handH3027, and I bowH7812 myself in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, when I bowH7812 myself in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, the LORDH3068 pardonH5545 thy servantH5650 in this thingH1697. 19And he saidH559 unto him, Go in peaceH7965. SoH853 he departed from him a little way. 20But GehaziH1522, the servantH5288 of ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430, saidH559, BeholdH2009, my masterH113 hath sparedH2820 this NaamanH5283 the SyrianH761, in notH2088 receivingH3947 at his handsH3027 that whichH834 he broughtH935: as the LORDH3068 liveth, I will runH7323 afterH310 him, and takeH3947 somewhat of him. 21SoH7200 GehaziH1522 followedH310 afterH310 NaamanH5283. And when NaamanH5283 sawH7200 one runningH7323 afterH310 him, he lighted downH5307 from the chariotH4818 to meetH7125 him, and saidH559, Is allH310 wellH7965? 22And he saidH559, AllH2009 is wellH7965. My masterH113 hath sentH7971 meH413, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, even nowH6258 there be comeH935 to meH413 from the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669 twoH8147 youngH5288 menH5288 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030; giveH5414 them, I prayH4994 thee, a talentH3603 of silverH3701, and twoH8147 changesH2487 of raiment. 23And NaamanH5283 saidH559, Be content, takeH3947 twoH8147 talentsH3603. And he urgedH6555 him, and bound twoH8147 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 in twoH8147 bagsH2754, with twoH8147 changesH2487 of raiment, and laidH5414 them uponH413 twoH8147 of his servantsH5288; and they bare them beforeH6440 him. 24And when he cameH935 to the hillH6076, he tookH3947 them from their handH3027, and bestowed them in the houseH1004: and he letH7971 the menH376 goH935, and they departedH935. 25But he wentH1980 in, and stoodH5975 beforeH413 his masterH113. And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, Whence comest thou, GehaziH1522? And he saidH559, Thy servantH5650 wentH1980 noH3808 whither. 26And he saidH559 unto him, WentH1980 notH3808 mine heartH3820 with thee, when the manH376 turnedH2015 again from his chariotH4818 to meetH7125 thee? Is it a time to receiveH3947 moneyH3701, and to receiveH3947 garmentsH899, and oliveyards and vineyardsH3754, and sheepH6629 and oxenH1241, and menservants and maidservantsH8198? 27The leprosyH6883 therefore of NaamanH5283 shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233 for everH5769. And he wentH3318 outH3318 from his presenceH6440 a leperH6879 as white as snowH7950.
