2 Kings 9
American Standard Version
1And ElishaH477 the prophetH5030 calledH7121 oneH259 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030, and saidH559 unto him, GirdH2296 up thy loinsH4975, and takeH3947 this vial of oilH8081 in thy handH3027, and go to Ramoth-gilead. 2And when thou comest thither, lookH7200 out there JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250, and goH935 in, and make him ariseH6965 up from among his brethren, and carryH6965 him to an innerH2315 chamberH2315. 3Then takeH3947 the vial of oilH8081, and pourH3332 it on his headH7218, and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, I have anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. Then openH6605 the doorH1817, and fleeH5127, and tarry not. 4So the youngH5288 manH5288, even the youngH5288 manH5288 the prophetH5030, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5And when he cameH935, behold, the captains of the host were sittingH3427; and he saidH559, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And JehuH3058 saidH559, Unto which of us all? And he saidH559, To thee, O captain. 6And he aroseH6965, and wentH935 into the houseH1004; and he pouredH3332 the oilH8081 on his headH7218, and saidH559 unto him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, I have anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over the peopleH5971 of Jehovah, even over IsraelH3478. 7And thou shalt smite the houseH1004 of AhabH256 thy masterH113, that I may avengeH5358 the bloodH1818 of my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, and the bloodH1818 of all the servantsH5650 of Jehovah, at the handH3027 of JezebelH348. 8For the whole houseH1004 of AhabH256 shall perishH6; and I will cutH3772 off from AhabH256 every man-child, and him that is shutH6113 up and him that is leftH5800 at large in IsraelH3478. 9And I will makeH5414 the houseH1004 of AhabH256 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, and like the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201 the sonH1121 of AhijahH281. 10And the dogsH3611 shall eatH398 JezebelH348 in the portionH2506 of JezreelH3157, and there shall be none to buryH6912 her. And he openedH6605 the doorH1817, and fledH5127.
11Then JehuH3058 cameH935 forthH3318 to the servantsH5650 of his lordH113: and oneH376 saidH559 unto him, Is all well? wherefore cameH935 this madH7696 fellow to thee? And he saidH559 unto them, Ye knowH3045 the manH376 and what his talk was. 12And they saidH559, It is false; tellH5046 us now. And he saidH559, ThusH3541 and thusH3541 spake he to me, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, I have anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 13Then they hasted, and tookH3947 every manH376 his garmentH899, and putH7760 it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpetH7782, sayingH559, JehuH3058 is kingH4427.
14So JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250 conspired against JoramH3141. (Now JoramH3141 wasH1961 keepingH8104 Ramoth-gilead, he and all IsraelH3478, because of HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria; 15but kingH4428 Joram was returnedH7725 to be healedH7495 in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 which the Syrians had given him, whenH834 he foughtH3898 with HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria.) And JehuH3058 saidH559, If this be your mind, then let none escape and goH3318 forthH3318 out of the cityH5892, to goH3318 to tellH5046 it in JezreelH3157. 16So JehuH3058 rodeH7392 in a chariot, and wentH3381 to JezreelH3157; for JoramH3141 layH7901 there. And AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 was comeH3381 down to seeH7200 JoramH3141.
17Now the watchmanH6822 was standingH5975 on the towerH4026 in JezreelH3157, and he spied the company of JehuH3058 as he cameH935, and saidH559, I seeH7200 a company. And Joram saidH559, TakeH3947 a horseman, and sendH7971 to meet them, and let him sayH559, Is it peaceH7965? 18So there wentH935 one on horseback to meet him, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, Is it peaceH7965? And JehuH3058 saidH559, What hast thou to do with peaceH7965? turnH7725 thee behind me. And the watchmanH6822 toldH5046, sayingH559, The messengerH4397 cameH935 to them, but he cometh not backH7725. 19Then he sentH7971 out a secondH8145 on horseback, who cameH935 to them, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, Is it peaceH7965? And JehuH3058 answered, What hast thou to do with peaceH7965? turnH5437 thee behind me. 20And the watchmanH6822 toldH5046, sayingH559, He cameH935 even unto them, and cometh not backH7725: and the driving is like the driving of JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250; for he driveth furiously.
21And Joram saidH559, Make ready. And they made ready his chariotH7393. And Joram kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH3318 out, each in his chariotH7393, and they wentH3318 out to meet JehuH3058, and foundH4672 him in the portionH2513 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158. 22And it came to pass, when Joram sawH7200 JehuH3058, that he saidH559, Is it peaceH7965, JehuH3058? And he answered, What peaceH7965, so long as the whoredoms of thy motherH517 JezebelH348 and her witchcrafts are so manyH7227? 23And Joram turnedH2015 his handsH3027, and fledH5127, and saidH559 to AhaziahH274, There is treachery, O AhaziahH274. 24And JehuH3058 drew his bowH7198 with his fullH4390 strengthH2220, and smote Joram between his armsH2220; and the arrowH2678 wentH3318 out at his heartH3820, and he sunk downH5221 in his chariotH7393. 25Then saidH559 Jehu to Bidkar his captain, TakeH5375 up, and castH7993 him in the portionH2513 of the fieldH7704 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158; for rememberH2142 how that, when I and thou rodeH7392 together after AhabH256 his fatherH1, Jehovah laid this burdenH4853 upon him: 26Surely I have seenH7200 yesterdayH570 the bloodH1818 of NabothH5022, and the bloodH1818 of his sonsH1121, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith Jehovah. NowH6258 thereforeH6258 takeH5375 and castH7993 him into the plat of ground, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah.
27But whenH834 AhaziahH274 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 sawH7200 this, he fledH5127 by the wayH1870 of the garden-house. And JehuH3058 followed after him, and saidH559, Smite him alsoH1571 in the chariotH4818: and they smote him at the ascentH4608 of Gur, which is by IbleamH2991. And he fledH5127 to MegiddoH4023, and diedH4191 there. 28And his servantsH5650 carried him in a chariot to JerusalemH3389, and buriedH6912 him in his sepulchre with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732.
29And in the eleventh yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 began AhaziahH274 to reignH4427 over JudahH3063.
30And when JehuH3058 was comeH935 to JezreelH3157, JezebelH348 heardH8085 of it; and she painted her eyesH5869, and attired her headH7218, and lookedH8259 out at the windowH2474. 31And as JehuH3058 entered in at the gateH8179, she saidH559, Is it peaceH7965, thou ZimriH2174, thy master’sH113 murderer? 32And he liftedH5375 up his faceH6440 to the windowH2474, and saidH559, Who is on my side? who? And there lookedH8259 out to him twoH8147 or threeH7969 eunuchsH5631. 33And he saidH559, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her bloodH1818 was sprinkled on the wallH7023, and on the horsesH5483: and he trod her under foot. 34And when he was comeH935 in, he did eatH398 and drinkH8354; and he saidH559, See now to this cursedH779 woman, and buryH6912 her; for she is a king’sH4428 daughterH1323. 35And they went to buryH6912 her; but they foundH4672 no more of her than the skullH1538, and the feetH7272, and the palmsH3709 of her handsH3027. 36Wherefore they came backH7725, and toldH5046 him. And he saidH559, This is the wordH1697 of Jehovah, which he spake by his servantH5650 ElijahH452 the Tishbite, sayingH559, In the portionH2506 of JezreelH3157 shall the dogsH3611 eatH398 the fleshH1320 of JezebelH348; 37and the body of JezebelH348 shall beH1961 as dungH1828 upon the faceH6440 of the fieldH7704 in the portionH2506 of JezreelH3157, so that they shall not sayH559, This is JezebelH348.
