2 Kings 11

1Now when AthaliahH6271 the motherH517 of AhaziahH274 sawH7200 that her sonH1121 was deadH4191, she aroseH6965 and destroyedH6 all the seedH2233 royal. 2But Jehosheba, the daughterH1323 of kingH4428 JoramH3141, sisterH269 of AhaziahH274, tookH3947 JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, and stoleH1589 him awayH3947 from among the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 that were slain, even him and his nurse, and putH4191 them in the bedchamber; and they hidH5641 him from AthaliahH6271, so that he was not slain; 3And he wasH1961 with her hidH2244 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah sixH8337 yearsH8141. And AthaliahH6271 reignedH4427 over the landH776.

4And in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 JehoiadaH3077 sentH7971 and fetched the captains over hundredsH3967 of the Carites and of the guard, and broughtH935 them to him into the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and he madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them, and tookH3947 an oathH7650 of them in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and showedH7200 them the king’sH4428 sonH1121. 5And he commandedH6680 them, sayingH559, This is the thingH1697 that ye shall do: a thirdH7992 part of you, that comeH935 in on the sabbathH7676, shall be keepersH8104 of the watchH8104 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004; 6and a thirdH7992 partH7992 shall be at the gateH8179 Sur; and a thirdH7992 partH7992 at the gateH8179 behind the guardH8104: so shall ye keepH8104 the watchH8104 of the houseH1004, and be a barrier. 7And the twoH8147 companies of you, even all that goH3318 forthH3318 on the sabbathH7676, shall keepH8104 the watchH8104 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah about the kingH4428. 8And ye shall compass the kingH4428 roundH5439 about, every manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027; and he that cometh within the ranksH7713, let him beH1961 slain: and beH1961 ye with the kingH4428 when he goeth out, and when he cometh in.

9And the captains over hundredsH3967 did according to all that JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680; and they tookH3947 every manH376 his menH376, those that were to comeH935 in on the sabbathH7676, with those that were to goH3318 out on the sabbathH7676, and cameH935 to JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 10And the priestH3548 delivered to the captains over hundredsH3967 the spearsH2595 and shieldsH7982 that had been kingH4428 David’s, which were in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 11And the guard stoodH5975, every manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027, from the rightH3233 sideH3802 of the houseH1004 to the left sideH3802 of the houseH1004, along by the altarH4196 and the houseH1004, by the kingH4428 roundH5439 about. 12Then he broughtH3318 out the king’sH4428 sonH1121, and putH5414 the crownH5145 upon him, andgaveH5414 himthe testimonyH5715; and they madeH5414 him kingH4428, and anointedH4886 him; and they clapped their handsH3709, and saidH559, LongliveH2421 the kingH4428.

13And when AthaliahH6271 heardH8085 the noise of the guardand ofthe peopleH5971, she cameH935 to the peopleH5971 into the houseH1004 of Jehovah: 14and she lookedH7200, and, behold, the kingH4428 stoodH5975 by the pillarH5982, as the manner was, and the captains and the trumpetsH2689 by the kingH4428; and all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoiced, and blew trumpetsH2689. Then AthaliahH6271 rent her clothesH899, and cried, TreasonH7195! treasonH7195! 15And JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680 the captains of hundredsH3967 that were set over the host, and saidH559 unto them, Have her forthH3318 between the ranksH7713; and him that followeth her slay with the swordH2719. For the priestH3548 saidH559, Let her not be slain in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 16So they madeH7760 wayH1870 for her; and she wentH935 by the wayH1870 of the horses’ entry to the king’sH4428 houseH1004: and there was she slain.

17And JehoiadaH3077 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 between Jehovah and the kingH4428 and the peopleH5971, that they should beH1961 Jehovah’s peopleH5971; between the kingH4428 also and the peopleH5971. 18And all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 wentH935 to the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and brake it downH5422; his altarsH4196 and his imagesH6754 brake they in pieces thoroughlyH3190, and slewH2026 MattanH4977 the priestH3548 of BaalH1168 before the altarsH4196. And the priestH3548 appointedH7760 officers over the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 19And he tookH3947 the captains over hundredsH3967, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the peopleH5971 of the landH776; and they broughtH935 down the kingH4428 from the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and cameH935 by the wayH1870 of the gateH8179 of the guard unto the king’sH4428 houseH1004. And he satH3427 on the throneH3678 of the kingsH4428. 20So all the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8055, and the cityH5892 was quietH8252. And AthaliahH6271 they had slain with the swordH2719 at the king’sH4428 houseH1004.

21Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.
