2 Kings 8

American Standard Version

1Now ElishaH477 had spokenH1696 unto the womanH802, whose sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH2421, sayingH559, AriseH6965, and goH935 thou and thy householdH1004, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for Jehovah hath calledH7121 for a famineH7458; and it shall alsoH1571 comeH935 upon the landH776 sevenH7651 yearsH8141. 2And the womanH802 aroseH6965, and did according to the wordH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430; and she went with her householdH1004, and sojourned in the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 yearsH8141. 3And it came to pass at the sevenH7651 years’ endH7097, that the womanH802 returnedH7725 out of the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430: and she wentH3318 forthH3318 to cryH6817 unto the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her landH776. 4Now the kingH4428 was talking with GehaziH1522 the servantH5288 of the manH376 of GodH430, sayingH559, Tell me, I pray thee, all the greatH1419 things that ElishaH477 hath done. 5And it came to pass, as he wasH1961 telling the kingH4428 how he had restoredH2421 to life him that wasH1961 deadH4191, that, behold, the womanH802, whose sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to life, criedH6817 to the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her landH7704. And GehaziH1522 saidH559, My lordH113, O kingH4428, this is the womanH802, and this is her sonH1121, whom ElishaH477 restoredH2421 to life. 6And when the kingH4428 askedH7592 the womanH802, she told him. So the kingH4428 appointed unto her a certain officer, sayingH559, RestoreH7725 all that was hers, and all the fruits of the fieldH7704 since the dayH3117 that she leftH5800 the landH776, even until nowH6258.

7And ElishaH477 cameH935 to DamascusH1834; and Ben-hadadH1130 the kingH4428 of Syria was sickH2470; and it was toldH5046 him, sayingH559, The manH376 of GodH430 is comeH935 hither. 8And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto HazaelH2371, TakeH3947 a present in thy handH3027, and go, meet the manH376 of GodH430, and inquire of Jehovah by him, sayingH559, Shall I recover of this sicknessH2483? 9So HazaelH2371 wentH935 to meet him, and tookH3947 a present with him, even of every goodH2898 thing of DamascusH1834, fortyH705 camels’H1581 burdenH4853, and cameH935 and stoodH5975 before him, and saidH559, Thy sonH1121 Ben-hadadH1130 kingH4428 of Syria hath sentH7971 me to thee, sayingH559, Shall I recover of this sicknessH2483? 10And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, Go, sayH559 unto him, Thou shalt surely recover; howbeit Jehovah hath showedH7200 me that he shall surely dieH4191. 11And he settled his countenance stedfastly upon him, until he was ashamedH954: and the manH376 of GodH430 weptH1058. 12And HazaelH2371 saidH559, WhyH4069 weepeth my lordH113? And he answered, Because I knowH3045 the evilH7451 that thou wilt do unto the children of IsraelH3478: their strongholdsH4013 wilt thou set on fireH784, and their youngH1121 menH970 wilt thou slayH2026 with the swordH2719, and wilt dashH7376 in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child. 13And HazaelH2371 saidH559, But what is thy servantH5650, who is but a dogH3611, that he should do this greatH1419 thingH1697? And ElishaH477 answered, Jehovah hath showedH7200 me that thou shalt be kingH4428 over Syria. 14Then he departed from ElishaH477, and cameH935 to his masterH113; who saidH559 to him, What saidH559 ElishaH477 to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou wouldest surely recover. 15And it came to pass on the morrow, that he tookH3947 the coverlet, and dippedH2881 it in waterH4325, and spreadH6566 it on his faceH6440, so that he diedH4191: and HazaelH2371 reignedH4427 in his stead.

16And in the fifth yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, JehoshaphatH3092 being then kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began to reignH4427. 17ThirtyH7970 and twoH8147 yearsH8141 old wasH1961 he when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 eightH8083 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 18And he walked in the wayH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, as did the houseH1004 of AhabH256: for he had the daughterH1323 of AhabH256 to wifeH802; and he did that which wasH1961 evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah. 19Howbeit Jehovah wouldH14 not destroyH7843 JudahH3063, for DavidH1732 his servant’sH5650 sakeH4616, as he promised him to giveH5414 unto him a lampH5216 for his children alway.

20In his daysH3117 EdomH123 revolted from under the handH3027 of JudahH3063, and made a kingH4428 over themselves. 21Then JoramH3141 passedH5674 over to Zair, and all his chariotsH7393 with him: and he roseH6965 up by nightH3915, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariotsH7393; and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 to their tentsH168. 22So EdomH123 revolted from under the handH3027 of JudahH3063 unto this dayH3117. ThenH227 did LibnahH3841 revolt at the same timeH6256. 23And the restH3499 of the acts of JoramH3141, and all that he did, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 24And JoramH3141 slept with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732; and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.

25In the twelfth yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 did AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 begin to reignH4427. 26TwoH8147 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old was AhaziahH274 when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 oneH259 yearH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AthaliahH6271 the daughterH1323 of OmriH6018 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 27And he walked in the wayH1870 of the houseH1004 of AhabH256, and did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, as did the houseH1004 of AhabH256; for he was the son-in-law of the houseH1004 of AhabH256. 28And he went with JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 to warH4421 against HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria at Ramoth-gilead: and the Syrians woundedH5221 JoramH3141. 29And kingH4428 JoramH3141 returnedH7725 to be healedH7495 in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 which the Syrians had given him at RamahH7414, when he foughtH3898 against HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria. And AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to seeH7200 JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 in JezreelH3157, because he was sickH2470.
