Naaman Is Healed
1Now 1NaamanH5283, commanderH8269 of the armyH6635 of the kingH4428 of AramH758, was a greatH1419 manH376 2in the view of his masterH113, and eminentH5375H6440, becauseH3588 by him the LordH3068 had givenH5414 victoryH8668 to AramH758. The manH376 was also a valiantH2428 warriorH1368, but afflictedH6879 withH6879 leprosyH6879. 2Now the ArameansH758 had goneH3318 outH3318 3in bandsH1416 and had takenH7617 captiveH7617 a littleH6996 girlH5291 from the landH776 of IsraelH3478; and she 4waitedH1961 on Naaman’sH5283 wifeH802. 3And she saidH559 to her mistressH1404, “IfH305 onlyH305 my masterH113 were 5with the prophetH5030 whoH834 is in SamariaH8111! ThenH227 he would cureH622 him of his leprosyH6883.” 4And 6Naaman wentH935 inH935 and toldH5046 his masterH113, sayingH559, “The girlH5291 whoH834 is from the landH776 of IsraelH3478 spokeH1696 suchH2088 and suchH2088.” 5Then the kingH4428 of AramH758 saidH559, “GoH1980 7nowH935, and I will sendH7971 a letterH5612 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478.” So he departedH1980 and 8tookH3947 with him tenH6235 9talentsH3603 of silverH3701, sixH8337 thousandH505 10shekels of goldH2091, and tenH6235 11changesH2487 of clothesH899.
6And he broughtH935 the letterH5612 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, 12which saidH559, “And nowH6258 as thisH2088 letterH5612 comesH935 to you, beholdH2009, I have sentH7971 NaamanH5283 my servantH5650 to you, so that you may cureH622 him of his leprosyH6883.” 7But when the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 readH7121 the letterH5612, 13he toreH7167 his clothesH899 and saidH559, “14Am I GodH430, to killH4191 and to keepH2421 aliveH2421, that thisH2088 man is sendingH7971 word to me to cureH622 a manH376 of his leprosyH6883? But 15considerH3045 nowH4994, and seeH7200 howH3588 he is seekingH579 16aH579 quarrelH579 against me.”
8Now it happenedH1961, when ElishaH477 17the manH376 of GodH430 heardH8085 that the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had tornH7167 his clothesH899, that he sentH7971 word to the kingH4428, sayingH559, “WhyH4100 did you tearH7167 your clothesH899? JustH4994 have him comeH935 to me, and he shall learnH3045 that thereH3426 isH3426 a prophetH5030 in IsraelH3478.” 9So NaamanH5283 cameH935 with his horsesH5483 and his chariotsH7393, and stoodH5975 at the doorwayH6607 of Elisha’sH477 houseH1004. 10And ElishaH477 sentH7971 a messengerH4397 to him, sayingH559, “18GoH1980 and washH7364 in the JordanH3383 sevenH7651 timesH6471, and your fleshH1320 will be restoredH7725 to you and you will beH2891 cleanH2891.” 11But NaamanH5283 wasH7107 furiousH7107 and wentH1980 away, and he saidH559, “BeholdH2009, I 19thoughtH559, ‘He will certainlyH3318 comeH3318 outH3318 to me, and standH5975 and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 his GodH430, and waveH5130 his handH3027 overH413 the siteH4725 and cureH622 the 20leprosyH6879.’ 12Are 21AbanahH71 and PharparH6554, the riversH5104 of DamascusH1834, not betterH2896 thanH4480 allH3605 the watersH4325 of IsraelH3478? Could I not washH7364 in them and beH2891 cleanH2891?” So he turnedH6437 and 22wentH1980 away in a rageH2534. 1323Then his servantsH5650 approachedH5066 and spokeH1696 to him, 24sayingH559, “25My fatherH1, had the prophetH5030 toldH1696 you to do some greatH1419 thingH1697, would you not have doneH6213 it? HowH637 muchH637H3588 moreH637H3588 then, whenH3588 he saysH559 to you, ‘WashH7364, and beH2891 cleanH2891’?” 14So he wentH3381 downH3381 and dippedH2881 himself in the JordanH3383 sevenH7651 timesH6471, in accordance with the wordH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430; and 26his fleshH1320 was restoredH7725 like the fleshH1320 of a littleH6996 childH5288, and 27he wasH2891 cleanH2891.
Gehazi’s Greed
15Then he returnedH7725 to the manH376 of GodH430 28with allH3605 his companyH4264, and cameH935 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him. And he saidH559, “BeholdH2009 nowH4994, 29I knowH3045 that thereH369 isH369 noH369 GodH430 in allH3605 the earthH776, exceptH3588H518 in IsraelH3478; so pleaseH4994 30acceptH3947 a 31giftH1293 from your servantH5650 nowH6258.” 16But he saidH559, “32As surely as the LordH3068 livesH2416, beforeH6440 whomH834 I standH5975, 33I will acceptH3947 nothingH518.” And he urgedH6484 him to acceptH3947 it, but he refusedH3985. 17Then NaamanH5283 saidH559, “If not, pleaseH4994 let your servantH5650 be givenH5414 twoH6776 mules’H6505 loadH4853 of 34earthH127; for your servantH5650 will noH3808 longerH5750 offerH6213 a burntH5930 offeringH5930 norH3808 a sacrificeH2077 to otherH312 godsH430, but to the LordH3068. 18Regarding thisH2088 matterH1697 may the LordH3068 forgiveH5545 your servantH5650: when my masterH113 goesH935 into the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417 to worshipH2331 thereH8033, and 35he leansH8172 on my handH3027 and I bowH2331 downH2331 in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, when I bowH2331 downH2331 in the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417, may the LordH3068 pleaseH4994 forgiveH5545 your servantH5650 in thisH2088 matterH1697.” 19He saidH559 to him, “36GoH1980 in peaceH7965.” So he wentH1980 someH3530 distanceH3530H776 from him.
20But 37GehaziH1522, the servantH5288 of ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430, 38thoughtH559, “BeholdH2009, my masterH113 has sparedH2820 thisH2088 NaamanH5283 the ArameanH761, 39by not acceptingH3947 from his handH3027 whatH834 he broughtH935. 40As the LordH3068 livesH2416, I will runH7323 afterH310 him and takeH3947 somethingH3972 from him.” 21So GehaziH1522 pursuedH7291 NaamanH5283. When NaamanH5283 sawH7200 someone runningH7323 afterH310 him, he cameH5307 downH5307 from the chariotH4818 to meetH7122 him and saidH559, “Is everything wellH7965?” 22And he saidH559, “41Everything is wellH7965. My masterH113 has sentH7971 me, sayingH559, ‘BeholdH2009, justH2088 nowH6258 twoH8147 youngH5288 menH5288 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 have comeH935 to me from 42the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669. PleaseH4994 giveH5414 them a talentH3603 of silverH3701 and 43twoH8147 changesH2487 of clothesH899.’” 23NaamanH5283 saidH559, “44BeH2974 sureH2974 to takeH3947 two talentsH3603.” And he urgedH6555 him, and tiedH6696 upH6696 two talentsH3603 of silverH3701 in twoH8147 bagsH2754 with twoH8147 changesH2487 of clothesH899, and gaveH5414 them to twoH8147 of his servantsH5288; and they carriedH5375 them beforeH6440 him. 24When he cameH935 to the 45hillH6076, he tookH3947 them from their handH3027 and 46depositedH6485 them in the houseH1004, and he sentH7971 the menH376 awayH7971, and they departedH1980. 25But he wentH935 inH935 and stoodH5975 beforeH413 his masterH113. And ElishaH477 saidH559 to him, “WhereH575 have you been, GehaziH1522?” And he saidH559, “47Your servantH5650 wentH1980 nowhereH3808H575.”
26Then he saidH559 to him, “Did my heartH3820 not goH1980 with you, whenH3512 the manH376 turnedH2015 from his chariotH4818 to meetH7122 you? 48Is it a timeH6256 to acceptH3947 moneyH3701 and to acceptH3947 clothesH899, oliveH2132 grovesH2132, vineyardsH3754, sheepH6629, oxenH1241, and maleH5650 and femaleH8198 slavesH5650H8198? 27Therefore, the leprosyH6883 of NaamanH5283 shall clingH1692 to you and to your 49descendantsH2233 foreverH5769.” So he wentH3318 outH3318 from his presenceH6440 50afflictedH6879 withH6879 leprosyH6879, as white as snowH7950.
