1 Samuel 20:24-40
24So DavidH1732 hidH5641 himself in the fieldH7704: and when the newH2320 moonH2320 wasH1961 come, the kingH4428 satH3427 him downH3427 to eatH398 foodH3899. 25And the kingH4428 satH3427 upon his seatH4186, as at other timesH6471, even upon the seatH4186 by the wallH7023; and JonathanH3083 stoodH6965 up, and AbnerH74 satH3427 by Saul’s sideH6654: but David’s placeH4725 was empty. 26Nevertheless SaulH7586 spake not anythingH3972 that dayH3117: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not cleanH2889; surely he is not cleanH2889. 27And it cameH935 to pass on the morrow after the newH2320 moonH2320, which wasH1961 the secondH8145 dayH3117, that David’s placeH4725 wasH1961 empty: and SaulH7586 saidH559 unto JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, Wherefore cometh not the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 to meat, neither yesterdayH8543, nor to-day? 28And JonathanH3083 answeredH6030 SaulH7586, DavidH1732 earnestly askedH7592 leave of me to go to Beth-lehem: 29and he saidH559, Let me goH935, I pray thee; for our familyH4940 hath a sacrificeH2077 in the cityH5892; and my brotherH251, he hath commandedH6680 me to be there: and nowH6258, if I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in thine eyesH5869, let me get awayH7971, I pray thee, and seeH7200 my brethren. ThereforeH3651 he is not comeH935 unto the king’sH4428 tableH7979.
30Then Saul’s angerH639 was kindled against JonathanH3083, and he saidH559 unto him, Thou sonH1121 of a perverse rebellious woman, do not I knowH3045 that thou hast chosenH977 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 to thine own shameH1322, and unto the shameH1322 of thy mother’sH517 nakednessH6172? 31For as long as the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 liveth upon the groundH127, thou shalt not be establishedH3559, nor thy kingdomH4438. Wherefore nowH6258 sendH7971 and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 32And JonathanH3083 answered SaulH7586 his fatherH1, and saidH559 unto him, Wherefore should he be putH4191 to deathH4191? what hath he done? 33And SaulH7586 cast his spearH2595 at him to smite him; whereby JonathanH3083 knewH3045 that it was determined of his fatherH1 to putH4191 DavidH1732 to deathH4191. 34So JonathanH3083 aroseH6965 from the tableH7979 in fierce angerH639, and did eatH398 no foodH3899 the secondH8145 dayH3117 of the monthH2320; for he was grieved for DavidH1732, because his fatherH1 had done him shameH3637.
35And it came to pass in the morningH1242, that JonathanH3083 wentH3318 out into the fieldH7704 at the timeH4150 appointedH4150 with DavidH1732, and a littleH6996 ladH5288 with him. 36And he saidH559 unto his ladH5288, RunH7323, findH4672 now the arrowsH2678 which I shootH3384. And as the ladH5288 ranH7323, he shotH3384 an arrowH2678 beyond him. 37And whenH834 the ladH5288 was comeH935 to the placeH4725 of the arrowH2678 which JonathanH3083 had shotH3384, JonathanH3083 cried after the ladH5288, and saidH559, Is not the arrowH2678 beyond thee? 38And JonathanH3083 cried after the ladH5288, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan’s ladH5288 gatheredH3950 up the arrowsH2678, and cameH935 to his masterH113. 39But the ladH5288 knewH3045 not anythingH1697: onlyH389 JonathanH3083 and DavidH1732 knewH3045 the matterH1697. 40And JonathanH3083 gaveH5414 his weaponsH3627 unto his ladH5288, and saidH559 unto him, GoH935, carry them to the cityH5892.
