1 Samuel 19:1-17
1And SaulH7586 spake to JonathanH3129 his sonH1121, and to all his servantsH5650, that they should slay DavidH1732. But JonathanH3129, Saul’s sonH1121, delighted much in DavidH1732. 2And JonathanH3083 toldH5046 DavidH1732, sayingH559, SaulH7586 my fatherH1 seeketh to slay thee: nowH6258 thereforeH6258, I pray thee, takeH8104 heedH8104 to thyself in the morningH1242, and abide in a secret place, and hideH2244 thyself: 3and I will goH3318 out and standH5975 beside my fatherH1 in the fieldH7704 whereH834 thou art, and I will commune with my fatherH1 of thee; and if I seeH7200 aught, I will tellH5046 thee. 4And JonathanH3083 spake goodH2896 of DavidH1732 unto SaulH7586 his fatherH1, and saidH559 unto him, Let not the kingH4428 sinH2398 against his servantH5650, against DavidH1732; because he hath not sinnedH2398 against thee, and because his worksH4639 have been to thee-ward veryH3966 goodH2896: 5for he putH4191 his lifeH5315 in his handH3709, and smote the PhilistineH6430, and Jehovah wrought a greatH1419 victoryH8668 for all IsraelH3478: thou sawest it, and didst rejoiceH8055; wherefore then wilt thou sinH2398 against innocentH5355 bloodH1818, to slay DavidH1732 without a causeH2600? 6And SaulH7586 hearkened unto the voiceH6963 of JonathanH3083: and SaulH7586 sware, As Jehovah liveth, he shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191. 7And JonathanH3083 calledH7121 DavidH1732, and JonathanH3083 showed him all those thingsH1697. And JonathanH3083 broughtH935 DavidH1732 to SaulH7586, and he wasH1961 in his presenceH6440, as beforetime.
8And there wasH1961 warH4421 again: and DavidH1732 wentH3318 out, and foughtH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430, and slew them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347; and they fledH5127 before him. 9And an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from Jehovah wasH1961 upon SaulH7586, as he satH3427 in his houseH1004 with his spearH2595 in his handH3027; and DavidH1732 wasH1961 playingH5059 with his handH3027. 10And SaulH7586 soughtH1245 to smite DavidH1732 even to the wallH7023 with the spearH2595; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presenceH6440, and he smote the spearH2595 into the wallH7023: and DavidH1732 fledH5127, and escapedH4422 that nightH3915. 11And SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto David’s houseH1004, to watchH8104 him, and to slay him in the morningH1242: and MichalH4324, David’s wifeH802, toldH5046 him, sayingH559, If thou saveH4422 not thy lifeH5315 to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be slain. 12So MichalH4324 let DavidH1732 downH3381 through the windowH2474: and he wentH3381, and fledH1272, and escapedH4422. 13And MichalH4324 tookH3947 the teraphimH8655, and laid it in the bedH4296, and putH7760 a pillow of goats’H5795 hair at the headH4763 thereof, and coveredH3680 it with the clothesH899. 14And when SaulH7586 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to takeH3947 DavidH1732, she saidH559, He is sickH2470. 15And SaulH7586 sentH7971 the messengersH4397 to seeH7200 DavidH1732, sayingH559, BringH5927 him up to me in the bedH4296, that I may slay him. 16And when the messengersH4397 cameH935 in, behold, the teraphimH8655 was in the bedH4296, with the pillow of goats’H5795 hair at the headH4763 thereof. 17And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto MichalH4324, WhyH4100 hast thou deceived me thusH3602, and let mine enemyH341 goH7971, so that he is escapedH4422? And MichalH4324 answered SaulH7586, He saidH559 unto me, Let me goH7971; whyH4100 should I killH4191 thee?
