1 Samuel 12
Revised Version 1895
1And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto allH3605 IsraelH3478, BeholdH2009, I have hearkened unto your voiceH6963 in allH3605 that ye saidH559 unto meH413, and have madeH3605 a kingH4428 over youH834. 2And nowH6258, beholdH2009, the kingH4428 walketh beforeH6440 youH6440: and I am oldH1121 and gray-headed; and, beholdH2009, my sonsH1121 are with youH6440: and I have walkedH1980 beforeH6440 youH6440 from my youthH5271 unto this dayH3117. 3HereH2005 I am: witnessH5869 againstH5048 meH7725 beforeH5048 the LORDH3068, and beforeH5048 his anointedH4899: whoseH4310 oxH7794 have I takenH3947? or whoseH4310 ass have I takenH3947? or whomH4310 have I defraudedH6231? whomH4310 have I oppressedH6231? or of whoseH4310 handH3027 have I takenH3947 a ransomH3724 to blindH5956 mine eyesH5869 therewith? and I will restoreH7725 it youH7725. 4And they saidH559, Thou hast notH3808 defraudedH6231 usH559, norH3808 oppressedH6231 usH559, neitherH3808 hast thou takenH3947 aught of anyH376 man’sH376 handH3027. 5And he saidH559 unto them, The LORDH3068 is witnessH5707 againstH413 youH3588, and his anointedH4899 is witnessH5707 this dayH3117, that ye have notH3808 foundH4672 aught in my handH3027. And they saidH559, He is witnessH5707. 6And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, It is the LORDH3068 that appointed MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and that broughtH5927 your fathersH1 upH5927 outH413 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 7NowH6258 therefore standH3320 still, that I may pleadH8199 with youH834 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 concerning allH3605 the righteousH6666 actsH6213 of the LORDH3068, whichH834 he didH6213 to youH834 and to your fathersH1. 8When JacobH3290 was comeH935 intoH413 EgyptH4714, and your fathersH1 criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068, then the LORDH3068 sentH7971 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, who broughtH935 forthH3318 your fathersH1 outH3318 of EgyptH4714, and madeH834 them to dwellH3427 in this placeH4725. 9But they forgat the LORDH3068 their GodH430, and he soldH4376 them intoH3027 the handH3027 of SiseraH5516, captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of HazorH2674, and intoH3027 the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430, and intoH3027 the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of MoabH4124, and they foughtH3898 againstH3027 them. 10And they criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559, WeH3588 have sinnedH2398, becauseH3588 weH3588 have forsaken the LORDH3068, and have servedH5647 the Baalim and the AshtarothH6252: but nowH6258 deliverH5337 usH413 outH2199 of the handH3027 of our enemiesH341, and weH3588 will serveH5647 thee. 11And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 JerubbaalH3378, and BedanH917, and JephthahH3316, and SamuelH8050, and deliveredH5337 youH7971 outH7971 of the handH3027 of your enemiesH341 on everyH5439 sideH5439, and ye dwelled in safetyH983. 12And when ye sawH7200 that NahashH5176 the kingH4428 of the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983 cameH935 againstH5921 youH3588, ye saidH559 unto meH5921, Nay, but a kingH4428 shall reignH4427 over usH5921: when the LORDH3068 your GodH430 was your kingH4428. 13NowH6258 therefore beholdH2009 the kingH4428 whomH834 ye have chosenH977, and whomH834 ye have askedH7592 for: and, beholdH2009, the LORDH3068 hath setH5414 a kingH4428 over youH834. 14IfH518 ye will fearH3372 the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him, and hearken unto his voiceH6963, and notH3808 rebelH4784 againstH5921 the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, and bothH1571 ye and also the kingH4428 that reigneth over youH859 be followers of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, wellH1571: 15but ifH518 ye will notH3808 hearken unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, but rebelH4784 againstH854 the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, then shall the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 be againstH854 youH518, as it was againstH854 your fathersH1. 16NowH6258 therefore standH3320 stillH1571 and seeH7200 this greatH1419 thingH1697, whichH834 the LORDH3068 will doH6213 beforeH5869 your eyesH5869. 17Is it notH3808 wheatH2406 harvestH7105 todayH3117? I will callH7121 unto the LORDH3068, that he may sendH5414 thunderH6963 and rainH4306; and ye shall knowH3045 and seeH7200 that your wickednessH7451 is greatH7227, whichH834 ye have doneH6213 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, in askingH7592 youH834 a kingH4428. 18SoH7121 SamuelH8050 calledH7121 unto the LORDH3068; and the LORDH3068 sentH5414 thunderH6963 and rainH4306 that dayH3117: and allH3605 the peopleH5971 greatlyH3966 fearedH3372 the LORDH3068 and SamuelH8050. 19And allH3605 the peopleH5971 saidH559 unto SamuelH8050, PrayH6419 for thy servantsH5650 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, that weH3588 dieH4191 notH408: for weH3588 have addedH3254 unto allH3605 our sinsH2403 this evilH7451, to askH7592 usH413 a kingH4428. 20And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, FearH3372 notH408: ye have indeedH389 doneH6213 allH3605 this evilH7451: yet turnH5493 notH408 asideH5493 from followingH310 the LORDH3068, but serveH5647 the LORDH3068 with allH3605 your heartH3824; 21and turnH5493 ye notH3808 asideH5493: for then should ye goH5493 afterH310 vain things whichH834 cannotH3808 profitH3276 norH3808 deliverH5337, for they are vain. 22For the LORDH3068 will notH3808 forsakeH5203 his peopleH5971 for his greatH1419 name’sH8034 sakeH5668: becauseH3588 it hath pleasedH2974 the LORDH3068 to makeH6213 youH3588 a peopleH5971 unto himselfH3808. 23MoreoverH1571 as for meH1157, GodH3068 forbidH2486 that I should sinH2398 againstH2398 the LORDH3068 in ceasingH2308 to prayH6419 for youH853: but I will instructH3384 youH853 in the goodH2896 and the rightH3477 wayH1870. 24OnlyH389 fearH3372 the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him in truthH571 with allH3605 your heartH3824: for considerH7200 howH834 greatH1431 things he hath doneH3605 for youH834. 25But ifH518 ye shall stillH1571 doH518 wickedly, ye shall be consumed, bothH1571 ye and your kingH4428.
