ButJonathanH3083,Saul’sשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,greatlyמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966delightedחָפֵ֥ץcha.FetzH2654in Davidבְּדָוִ֖דbe.da.VidH1732.
2So Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָן֙ye.ho.na.TanH3083informedוַיַּגֵּ֤דvai.ya.GedH5046Davidלְדָוִ֣דle.da.VidH1732,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “My fatherאָבִ֖י'a.ViH1Saulשָׁא֥וּלsha.'UlH7586is seekingמְבַקֵּ֛שׁme.va.KeshH1245to putH4191you toH4191deathH4191.Nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258then, pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994be on your guardהִשָּֽׁמֶר־hi.sha.mer-H8104in the morningבַבֹּ֔קֶרva.Bo.kerH1242,and stayוְיָשַׁבְתָּ֥ve.ya.shav.TaH3427in a hidingבַסֵּ֖תֶרva.Se.terH5643placeH5643and concealוְנַחְבֵּֽאתָ׃ve.nach.Be.taH2244yourself.
3And as for me, I will goאֵצֵ֜א'e.Tze'H3318outH3318and standוְעָמַדְתִּ֣יve.'a.mad.TiH5975besideלְיַד־le.yad-H3027my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶה֙ba.sa.DehH7704whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֔ם'a.Sher ShamH834H8033you are hiding,and I will speakאֲדַבֵּ֥ר'a.da.BerH1696with my fatherאָבִ֑י'a.ViH1about you; andwhateverמָ֖הmahH4100Ifindוְרָאִ֥יתִיve.ra.'I.tiH7200out, I will tellוְהִגַּ֥דְתִּיve.hi.Gad.tiH5046you.”
4Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֤ןye.ho.na.TanH3083spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696wellט֔וֹבTovH2896of Davidבְּדָוִד֙be.da.VidH1732to his fatherאָבִ֑יו'a.VivH1Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “May the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428not sinיֶחֱטָ֨אye.che.Ta'H2398against his servantבְּעַבְדּ֣וֹbe.'av.DoH5650Davidבְדָוִ֗דve.da.VidH1732,sinceכִּ֣יkiH3588he has not sinnedחָטָא֙cha.Ta'H2398against you, and sinceוְכִ֥יve.KhiH3588his deedsמַעֲשָׂ֖יוma.'a.SavH4639have beenveryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966beneficialטוֹב־tov-H2896to you.
5Forhe tookוַיָּשֶׂם֩vai.ya.SemH7760his lifeנַפְשׁ֨וֹnaf.ShoH5315in his handבְכַפּ֜וֹve.kha.PoH3709and struckוַיַּ֣ךְvai.YakhH5221the Philistineהַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗יha.pe.lish.TiH6430, andthe Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068broughtH6213aboutH6213a greatגְדוֹלָה֙ge.do.LahH1419victoryתְּשׁוּעָ֤הte.shu.'AhH8668for allלְכָל־le.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478;you sawרָאִ֖יתָra.'I.taH7200itand rejoicedוַתִּשְׂמָ֑חva.tis.MachH8055.Whyוְלָ֤מָּהve.La.mahH4100then would you sinתֶֽחֱטָא֙te.che.Ta'H2398against innocentנָקִ֔יna.KiH5355bloodבְּדָ֣םbe.DamH1818by puttingH4191Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732toH4191deathH4191forH2600noH2600reasonH2600?”
6Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586listenedוַיִּשְׁמַ֥עvai.yish.Ma'H8085to the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֑ןye.ho.na.TanH3083,and Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586vowedוַיִּשָּׁבַ֣עvai.yi.sha.Va'H7650, “As the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416, Davidshall not be putיוּמָֽת׃yu.MatH4191toH4191deathH4191.”
7Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָן֙ye.ho.na.TanH3083calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Davidלְדָוִ֔דle.da.VidH1732,and Jonathanיְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ןye.Ho.na.TanH3083toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046him allכָּל־kol-H3605theseהָאֵ֑לֶּהha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697.And Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֤ןye.ho.na.TanH3083broughtוַיָּבֵ֨אvai.ya.Ve'H935Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586,and he was in his presenceלְפָנָ֖יוle.fa.NavH6440asbeforeכְּאֶתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃ סke.'et.Mol shil.ShomH8032H865.
8When there was warהַמִּלְחָמָ֖הha.mil.cha.MahH4421againוַתּ֥וֹסֶףva.To.sefH3254,Davidדָוִ֜דda.VidH1732wentH3318outH3318and foughtוַיִּלָּ֣חֶםvai.yi.La.chemH3898the Philistinesבַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗יםba.pe.lish.TimH6430anddefeatedוַיַּ֤ךְvai.YakhH5221them with greatגְדוֹלָ֔הge.do.LahH1419slaughterמַכָּ֣הma.KahH4347,so that they fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127from him.
9Now there wasan evilרָעָה֙ra.'AhH7451spiritר֨וּחַRu.achH7307from the Lordיְהוָ֤ה׀Yah.wehH3068on Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586as he was sittingיוֹשֵׁ֔בyo.ShevH3427in his houseבְּבֵית֣וֹbe.vei.ToH1004with his spearוַחֲנִית֖וֹva.cha.ni.ToH2595in his handבְּיָד֑וֹbe.ya.DoH3027,and Davidוְדָוִ֖דve.da.VidH1732was playingמְנַגֵּ֥ןme.na.GenH5059the harp with hishandבְּיָֽד׃be.YadH3027.
10And Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586triedוַיְבַקֵּ֨שׁvay.va.KeshH1245topinלְהַכּ֤וֹתle.ha.KotH5221Davidבְּדָוִ֣דbe.da.VidH1732to the wallוּבַקִּ֔ירu.va.KirH7023with the spearבַּֽחֲנִית֙ba.cha.NitH2595,but he escapedוַיִּפְטַר֙vai.yif.TarH6362from Saul’sשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586presenceמִפְּנֵ֣יmi.pe.NeiH6440,so that he stuckוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221the spearהַחֲנִ֖יתha.cha.NitH2595into the wallבַּקִּ֑ירba.KirH7023.And Davidוְדָוִ֛דve.da.VidH1732fledנָ֥סnasH5127and escapedוַיִּמָּלֵ֖טvai.yi.ma.LetH4422that nightבַּלַּ֥יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915.
11ThenSaulשָׁא֨וּלsha.'UlH7586sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֜יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to David’sדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732houseבֵּ֤יתbeitH1004to watchלְשָׁמְר֔וֹle.sha.me.RoH8104him, in order to putH4191him toH4191deathH4191in the morningבַּבֹּ֑קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242.But Michalמִיכַ֤לmi.KhalH4324,David’sלְדָוִ֗דle.da.VidH1732wifeאִשְׁתּוֹ֙'ish.ToH802,informedוַתַּגֵּ֣דva.ta.GedH5046him, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you do not saveמְמַלֵּ֤טme.ma.LetH4422your lifeנַפְשְׁךָ֙naf.she.KhaH5315tonightהַלַּ֔יְלָהha.Lay.lahH3915,tomorrowמָחָ֖רma.CharH4279you will be putH4191toH4191deathH4191!”
13And Michalמִיכַ֜לmi.KhalH4324tookוַתִּקַּ֨חva.ti.KachH3947thehouseholdH8655idolH8655and laidוַתָּ֙שֶׂם֙va.Ta.semH7760iton the bedהַמִּטָּ֔הha.mi.TahH4296,and putשָׂ֖מָהSa.mahH7760a quiltכְּבִ֣ירke.VirH3523of goats’הָֽעִזִּ֔יםha.'i.ZimH5795hairH5795atH4763its headמְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֑יוme.ra.'a.sho.TavH4763,and coveredוַתְּכַ֖סva.te.KhasH3680itwith clothingבַּבָּֽגֶד׃ סba.Ba.gedH899.
15Then Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersהַמַּלְאָכִ֔יםha.mal.'a.KhimH4397to seeלִרְא֥וֹתlir.'otH7200Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Bringהַעֲל֨וּha.'a.LuH5927him upH5927to me onhis bedבַמִּטָּ֛הva.mi.TahH4296,so that I may putH4191him toH4191deathH4191.”
16When the messengersהַמַּלְאָכִ֔יםha.mal.'a.KhimH4397enteredוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935,beholdוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009, thehouseholdH8655idolH8655wason the bedהַמִּטָּ֑הha.mi.TahH4296with the quiltוּכְבִ֥ירu.khe.VirH3523of goats’הָעִזִּ֖יםha.'i.ZimH5795hairH5795atH4763its headמְרַאֲשֹׁתָֽיו׃me.ra.'a.sho.TavH4763.
17So Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Michalמִיכַ֗לmi.KhalH4324, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100have you betrayedרִמִּיתִ֔נִיri.mi.Ti.niH7411me likeH3602thisH3602and letH7971my enemyH340goוַתְּשַׁלְּחִ֥יva.te.sha.le.ChiH7971,so that he has escapedוַיִּמָּלֵ֑טvai.yi.ma.LetH4422?”And Michalמִיכַל֙mi.KhalH4324saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586, “He saidאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559to me, ‘LetH7971me goשַׁלְּחִ֖נִיsha.le.Chi.niH7971!Whyלָמָ֥הla.MahH4100should I putH4191you toH4191deathH4191?’”
18So Davidוְדָוִ֨דve.da.VidH1732fledבָּרַ֜חba.RachH1272and escapedוַיִּמָּלֵ֗טvai.yi.ma.LetH4422,and cameוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050at Ramahהָרָמָ֔תָהha.ra.Ma.tahH7414;and he informedוַיַּ֨גֶּד־vai.Ya.ged-H5046him of everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586had doneעָֽשָׂה־'a.sah-H6213to him. And he and Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵ֔לu.she.mu.'ElH8050wentוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and stayedוַיֵּשְׁב֖וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427inNaiothבְּנָֽיוֹת׃be.noitH5121.
20ThenSaulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֨חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397to takeלָקַ֣חַתla.Ka.chatH3947Davidדָּוִד֒da.VidH1732,but when they sawוַיַּ֗רְאvai.Yar'H7200the companyלַהֲקַ֤תla.ha.KatH3862of prophetsהַנְּבִיאִים֙ha.ne.vi.'ImH5030prophesyingנִבְּאִ֔יםni.be.'ImH5012,with Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵ֕לu.she.mu.'ElH8050standingעֹמֵ֥ד'o.MedH5975andpresidingנִצָּ֖בni.TzavH5324overH5921them, the Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430cameוַתְּהִ֞יva.te.HiH1961upon the messengersמַלְאֲכֵ֤יmal.'a.KheiH4397of Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586; andthey alsoגַּם־gam-H1571prophesiedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012.
21When Saulלְשָׁא֗וּלle.sha.'UlH7586was informedוַיַּגִּ֣דוּvai.ya.Gi.duH5046of this,he sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971otherאֲחֵרִ֔ים'a.che.RimH312messengersמַלְאָכִ֣יםmal.'a.KhimH4397,but they alsoH1571prophesiedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012.So Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֣יםmal.'a.KhimH4397againוַיֹּ֣סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254the thirdשְׁלִשִׁ֔יםshe.li.ShimH7992timeH7992,yet they prophesiedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012.
22Then he wentוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Ramahהָרָמָ֗תָהha.ra.Ma.tahH7414himselfה֜וּאhu'H1931and cameוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935as farעַד־'ad-H5704as the largeהַגָּדוֹל֙ha.ga.dOlH1419wellבּ֤וֹרBorH953that is in Secuבַּשֶּׂ֔כוּba.Se.khuH7906; and heaskedוַיִּשְׁאַ֣לvai.yish.'AlH7592, “Whereאֵיפֹ֥ה'ei.FohH375are Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050and Davidוְדָוִ֑דve.da.VidH1732?” And someonesaidH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֖הhi.NehH2009,they are at Naiothבְּנָי֥וֹתbe.noitH5121in Ramahבָּרָמָֽה׃ba.ra.MahH7414.”
23So heproceededוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033to Naiothנָי֖וֹתnoitH5121in Ramahבָּרָמָ֑הba.ra.MahH7414; butthe Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430cameוַתְּהִי֩va.te.HiH1961upon him alsoגַּם־gam-H1571,so that he wentוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980along prophesyingוַיִּתְנַבֵּ֔אvai.yit.na.Be'H5012continuallyהָלוֹךְ֙ha.loKhH1980untilעַד־'ad-H5704he cameבֹּא֖וֹbo.'OH935to Naiothבְּנָי֥וֹתbe.noitH5121in Ramahבָּרָמָֽה׃ba.ra.MahH7414.
24He alsoגַּם־gam-H1571strippedH6584offH6584his clothesבְּגָדָ֗יוbe.ga.DavH899,and he tooגַם־gam-H1571prophesiedוַיִּתְנַבֵּ֤אvai.yit.na.Be'H5012beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050andlayH5307downוַיִּפֹּ֣לvai.yi.PolH5307nakedעָרֹ֔ם'a.RomH6174allכָּל־kol-H3605that dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605nightהַלָּ֑יְלָהha.La.ye.lahH3915.Thereforeעַל־ כֵּן֙'al- kenH5921H3651they sayיֹֽאמְר֔וּyo.me.RuH559, “Is Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586alsoהֲגַ֥םha.GamH1571among the prophetsבַּנְּבִיאִֽם׃ פba.ne.vi.'ImH5030?”
