1Nowthe Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֛יםfe.lish.TimH6430gatheredוַיִּקְבְּצ֧וּvai.yik.be.TzuH6908together allכָּל־kol-H3605their armiesמַחֲנֵיהֶ֖םma.cha.nei.HemH4264toAphekאֲפֵ֑קָה'a.Fe.kahH663,while the Israelitesוְיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478were campingחֹנִ֔יםcho.NimH2583by the springH5871whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is inJezreelבְּיִזְרְעֶֽאל׃be.yiz.re.'ElH3157.

2And the governorsוְסַרְנֵ֤יve.sar.NeiH5633of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּים֙fe.lish.TimH6430were proceedingH5674onH5674, leadinghundredsלְמֵא֖וֹתle.me.'otH3967and thousandsוְלַאֲלָפִ֑יםve.la.'a.la.FimH505, andDavidוְדָוִ֣דve.da.VidH1732and his menH376were proceedingH5674in the backבָּאַחֲרֹנָ֖הba.'a.cha.ro.NahH314with Achishאָכִֽישׁ׃'a.KhishH397.

3Then the commandersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Whatמָ֖הmahH4100aretheseהָאֵ֑לֶּהha.'E.lehH428Hebrewsהָעִבְרִ֣יםha.'iv.RimH5680doing here?”And Achishאָכִ֜ישׁ'a.KhishH397saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the commandersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430, “Is thisזֶ֨הzehH2088not Davidדָוִ֜דda.VidH1732,the servantעֶ֣בֶד׀'E.vedH5650of Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834has beenהָיָ֤הha.YahH1961with me theseזֶ֤הzehH2088daysיָמִים֙ya.MimH3117,orאוֹ־'ov-H176rathertheseזֶ֣הzehH2088yearsשָׁנִ֔יםsha.NimH8141, andI have foundמָצָ֤אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672nothingH3808 H3972atH3972allH3972suspiciousin him sinceH4480the dayמִיּ֥וֹםmi.YomH3117hedesertedנָפְל֖וֹna.fe.LoH5307to meto thisהַזֶּֽה׃ פha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117?”

4But the commandersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430wereH7107angryוַיִּקְצְפ֨וּvai.yik.tze.FuH7107with him, and the commandersשָׂרֵ֨יsa.ReiH8269of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֜יםfe.lish.TimH6430saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “Make the manH376goH7725backהָשֵׁ֣בha.ShevH7725,so that he will returnוְיָשֹׁב֙ve.ya.ShoH7725to his placeמְקוֹמוֹ֙me.ko.MoH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֔ם'a.Sher ShamH834 H8033you have assignedהִפְקַדְתּ֣וֹhif.kad.ToH6485him, and do not let him goיֵרֵ֤דye.RedH3381downH3381to battleבַּמִּלְחָמָ֔הba.mil.cha.MahH4421with us,orH3808in the battleבַּמִּלְחָמָ֑הba.mil.cha.MahH4421he may becomeיִֽהְיֶה־yih.yeh-H1961an adversaryלְשָׂטָ֖ןle.sa.TanH7854to us. 5Is thisזֶ֣הzehH2088not Davidדָוִ֔דda.VidH1732,of whomאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834they singH6031in the dancesבַּמְּחֹל֖וֹתba.me.cho.LotH4246,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, ‘Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586has slainהִכָּ֤הhi.KahH5221his thousandsבַּֽאֲלָפָ֔יוba.'a.la.FavH505,And Davidוְדָוִ֖דve.da.VidH1732his tenH7233thousandsבְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו׃ סbe.ri.vo.tovH7233’?”

6Then Achishאָכִ֜ישׁ'a.KhishH397calledוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Asthe Lordיְהוָ֞הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416, you haveindeedכִּי־ki-H3588beenhonestיָשָׁ֣רya.SharH3477, and yourgoingH3318outH3318and your comingH935inH935with me in the armyבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הba.ma.cha.NehH4264are pleasingוְט֣וֹבve.TovH2896in my sightבְּ֠עֵינַיBe.'ei.naiH5869;for I have not foundמָצָ֤אתִֽיma.Tza.tiH4672evilH7463in you sinceכִּ֠יkiH3588the dayמִיּ֛וֹםmi.YomH3117of your comingH935to me to thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117.Nevertheless, you are not pleasingט֥וֹבTovH2896in the sightוּבְעֵינֵ֥יu.ve.'ei.NeiH5869of the governorsהַסְּרָנִ֖יםha.se.ra.NimH5633.

7Nowוְעַתָּ֥הve.'a.TahH6258then, returnשׁ֖וּבshuvH7725and goוְלֵ֣ךְve.LekhH1980in peaceבְּשָׁל֑וֹםbe.sha.LomH7965,so that you will not doתַעֲשֶׂ֣הta.'a.SehH6213anythingwrongרָ֔עRa'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֖יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the governorsסַרְנֵ֥יsar.NeiH5633of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ סfe.lish.TimH6430.”

8However, Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Achishאָכִ֗ישׁ'a.KhishH397, “But whatמֶ֤הmehH4100have I doneעָשִׂ֙יתִי֙'a.Si.tiH6213?And whatוּמַה־u.mah-H4100have you foundמָּצָ֣אתָma.Tza.taH4672in your servantבְעַבְדְּךָ֔ve.'av.de.KhaH5650sinceH4480the dayמִיּוֹם֙mi.yOmH3117that I cameהָיִ֣יתִיha.Yi.tiH1961beforeלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you, to thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117,that I cannot goאָבוֹא֙'a.Vo'H935and fightוְנִלְחַ֔מְתִּיve.nil.Cham.tiH3898against the enemiesH340of my lordאֲדֹנִ֥י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428?”

9But Achishאָכִישׁ֮'a.KhishH397repliedוַיַּ֣עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030to Davidדָּוִד֒da.VidH1732, “I knowיָדַ֕עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045that you are pleasingט֥וֹבTovH2896in my sightבְּעֵינַ֖יbe.'ei.NaiH5869,like an angelכְּמַלְאַ֣ךְke.mal.'AkhH4397of Godאֱלֹהִ֑ים'E.lo.HimH430;neverthelessאַ֣ךְ'akhH389the commandersשָׂרֵ֤יsa.ReiH8269of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּים֙fe.lish.TimH6430have saidH559, ‘He must not goיַעֲלֶ֥הya.'a.LehH5927upH5927with us into the battleבַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ba.mil.cha.MahH4421.’

10Nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258then, riseהַשְׁכֵּ֣םhash.KemH7925earlyוְהִשְׁכַּמְתֶּ֣םve.hish.kam.TemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242with the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֥יve.'av.DeiH5650of your lordאֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ'a.do.Nei.khaH113whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834have comeבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935with you, and as soon asyou have risenH7925earlyH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242and haveH215lightוְא֥וֹרve.'orH215,leaveוָלֵֽכוּ׃va.Le.khuH1980.”

11So Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732gotH7925upH7925earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨םvai.yash.KemH7925,he and his menH376,to leaveלָלֶ֣כֶתla.Le.khetH1980in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242to returnלָשׁ֖וּבla.ShuvH7725to the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430.And the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430wentH5927upH5927to Jezreelיִזְרְעֶֽאל׃ סyiz.re.'ElH3157.
