1So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732departedוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980from thereמִשָּׁ֔םmi.ShamH8033andescapedוַיִּמָּלֵ֖טvai.yi.ma.LetH4422tothe caveמְעָרַ֣תme.'a.RatH4631of Adullamעֲדֻלָּ֑ם'a.du.LamH5725;and when his brothersאֶחָיו֙'e.ChavH251and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his father’sאָבִ֔יו'a.VivH1householdבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֤וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085about it,they wentH3381downוַיֵּרְד֥וּvai.ye.re.DuH3381thereשָֽׁמָּה׃Sha.mahH8033to him.
2Then everyoneכָּל־kol-H3605who was in distressמָצ֜וֹקma.TzokH4689,and everyoneוְכָל־ve.kholH3605whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834was in debtH5377,and everyoneוְכָל־ve.kholH3605who wasdiscontentedמַר־ נֶ֔פֶשׁmar- Ne.feshH4751H5315gatheredוַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֣וּvai.yit.ka.be.TzuH6908to him; and he becameH1961captainלְשָׂ֑רle.SarH8269overעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם'a.lei.HemH5921them. Now there wereabout fourכְּאַרְבַּ֥עke.'ar.Ba'H702hundredמֵא֖וֹתme.'otH3967menH376with him.
3And Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732wentוַיֵּ֧לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980from thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033to Mizpahמִצְפֵּ֣הmitz.PehH4708of Moabמוֹאָ֑בmo.'AvH4124;and he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559to the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Moabמוֹאָ֗בmo.'AvH4124, “Pleaseנָ֞אna'H4994let my fatherאָבִ֤י'a.ViH1and my motherוְאִמִּי֙ve.'i.MiH517comeיֵֽצֵא־ye.tze'-H3318and staywith you untilעַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר'ad 'a.SherH5704H834I knowאֵדַ֔ע'e.Da'H3045whatמַה־mah-H4100Godאֱלֹהִֽים׃'E.lo.HimH430will doיַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ya.'a.seh-H6213for me.”
5ButGadגָּ֨דgadH1410the prophetהַנָּבִ֜יאha.na.Vi'H5030saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732, “Do not stayתֵשֵׁב֙te.ShevH3427in the strongholdבַּמְּצוּדָ֔הba.me.tzu.DahH4686;leaveלֵ֥ךְlekhH1980,and goוּבָֽאתָ־u.va.ta-H935into the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063.”So Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732leftוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and wentוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935into the forestיַ֥עַרYa.'arH3293of Herethחָֽרֶת׃ סCha.retH2802.
6Then Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085that Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732and the menH376whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were with him had been discoveredנוֹדַ֣עno.Da'H3045. NowSaulוְשָׁאוּל֩ve.sha.'UlH7586was in Gibeahבַּגִּבְעָ֜הba.giv.'AhH1390,sittingיוֹשֵׁ֨בyo.ShevH3427underתַּֽחַת־ta.chat-H8478the tamariskהָאֶ֤שֶׁלha.'E.shelH815treeH815on the heightבָּֽרָמָה֙ba.ra.MahH7413with his spearוַחֲנִית֣וֹva.cha.ni.ToH2595in his handבְיָד֔וֹve.ya.DoH3027,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his servantsעֲבָדָ֖יו'a.va.DavH5650were standingנִצָּבִ֥יםni.tza.VimH5324in frontעָלָֽיו׃'a.LavH5921of him.
7Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his servantsלַֽעֲבָדָיו֙la.'a.va.DavH5650who were standingהַנִּצָּבִ֣יםha.ni.tza.VimH5324in frontעָלָ֔יו'a.LavH5921of him, “Hearשִׁמְעוּ־shim.'u-H8085nowנָ֖אna'H4994,you BenjaminitesH1145!Will the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jesseיִשַׁי֙yi.ShaiH3448reallyגַּם־gam-H1571giveיִתֵּ֤ןyi.TenH5414allלְכֻלְּכֶ֗םle.khu.le.KhemH3605of you fieldsשָׂד֣וֹתsa.DotH7704and vineyardsוּכְרָמִ֔יםu.khe.ra.MimH3754?Will he makeיָשִׂ֔יםya.SimH7760you allלְכֻלְּכֶ֣םle.khu.le.KhemH3605commandersשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of thousandsאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505and commandersוְשָׂרֵ֥יve.sa.ReiH8269of hundredsמֵאֽוֹת׃me.'otH3967?
8For allכֻּלְּכֶ֜םku.le.KhemH3605of you have conspiredקְשַׁרְתֶּ֨םke.shar.TemH7194againstH5921me so that thereH369isH369noH369oneH369whoinformsגֹּלֶ֤ה אָזְנִי֙go.Leh 'a.ze.NiH1540H241mewhen my sonבְּנִ֣יbe.NiH1121makesבִּכְרָת־bikh.rot-H3772a covenantwith the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jesseיִשַׁ֔יyi.ShaiH3448,and thereH369isH369noneH369of youwho caresH2470aboutH2470me orinformsוְגֹלֶ֣ה אָזְנִ֑יve.go.Leh 'a.ze.NiH1540H241me that my sonבְּנִ֨יbe.NiH1121has stirredH6965upH6965my servantעַבְדִּ֥י'av.DiH5650againstH5921me to lieH693inH693ambushH693, as it isthisהַזֶּֽה׃ סha.ZehH2088dayכַּיּ֥וֹםkai.YomH3117.”
9ThenDoegדֹּאֵ֣גdo.'EgH1673the Edomiteהָאֲדֹמִ֗יha.'a.do.MiH130,whoוְה֛וּאve.Hu'H1931wasstandingנִצָּ֥בni.TzavH5324in frontעַל־'al-H5921of the servantsעַבְדֵֽי־'av.dei-H5650of Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586,respondedוַיַּ֜עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “I sawרָאִ֙יתִי֙ra.'I.tiH7200the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jesseיִשַׁ֔יyi.ShaiH3448comingבָּ֣אba'H935to Nobנֹ֔בֶהNoehH5011, toAhimelechאֲחִימֶ֖לֶךְ'a.chi.Me.lekhH288the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahitubאֲחִטֽוּב׃'a.chi.TuvH285.
11Then the kingהַמֶּ֡לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971a messengerto summonלִקְרֹא֩lik.Ro'H7121Ahimelechאֲחִימֶ֨לֶךְ'a.chi.Me.lekhH288the priestהַכֹּהֵ֗ןha.ko.HenH3548,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahitubאֲחִיט֜וּב'a.chi.TuvH285,and allכָּל־kol-H3605his father’sאָבִ֛יו'a.VivH1householdבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004,the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִ֖יםha.ko.ha.NimH3548whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were in Nobבְּנֹ֑בbe.NoH5011;and allכֻלָּ֖םkhu.LamH3605of them cameוַיָּבֹ֥אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ סha.Me.lekhH4428.
13Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586then saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Whyלָ֚מָּהLa.mahH4100have you and the sonוּבֶן־u.ven-H1121of Jesseיִשָׁ֑יyi.ShaiH3448conspiredקְשַׁרְתֶּ֣םke.shar.TemH7194againstעָלַ֔י'a.LaiH5921me, in that you have givenבְּתִתְּךָ֨be.ti.te.KhaH5414him breadלֶ֣חֶםLe.chemH3899and a swordוְחֶ֗רֶבve.Che.revH2719,and have inquiredוְשָׁא֥וֹלve.sha.'olH7592of Godבֵּֽאלֹהִ֔יםbe.lo.HimH430for him, so that he would riseלָק֥וּםla.KumH6965upH6965againstH413meby lyingH693inH693ambushH693as it isthisהַזֶּֽה׃ סha.ZehH2088dayכַּיּ֥וֹםkai.YomH3117?”
14Then Ahimelechאֲחִימֶ֛לֶךְ'a.chi.Me.lekhH288answeredוַיַּ֧עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “And whoוּמִ֤יu.MiH4310among allבְכָל־ve.khol-H3605your servantsעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙'a.va.Dei.khaH5650is as faithfulנֶאֱמָ֔ןne.'e.ManH539as Davidכְּדָוִ֣דke.da.VidH1732,the king’sהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428ownson-in-lawוַחֲתַ֥ןva.cha.TanH2860, whois commander overאֶל־'el-H413your bodyguardמִשְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ךָmish.ma'.Te.khaH4928,and is honoredוְנִכְבָּ֥דve.nikh.BadH3513in your houseבְּבֵיתֶֽךָ׃be.vei.Te.khaH1004?

17Andthe kingהַמֶּ֡לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to theguardsלָרָצִים֩la.ra.TzimH7323who were attendingהַנִּצָּבִ֨ים עָלָ֜יוha.ni.tza.Vim 'a.LavH5324H5921him, “Turnסֹ֥בּוּSo.buH5437aroundH5437and putוְהָמִ֣יתוּ׀ve.ha.Mi.tuH4191the priestsכֹּהֲנֵ֣יko.ha.NeiH3548of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068toH4191deathH4191,becauseH3588their handיָדָם֙ya.DamH3027alsoגַם־gam-H1571is with Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732and becauseH3588they knewיָֽדְעוּ֙ya.de.'UH3045that he was fleeingבֹרֵ֣חַvo.Re.achH1272and did notinformגָל֖וּ אָזְנִ֑יga.Lu 'a.ze.niH1540H241me.” But theservantsעַבְדֵ֤י'av.DeiH5650of the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428were unwillingאָב֞וּ'a.VuH3808H14to reachH7971outH7971with their handsיָדָ֔םya.DamH3027toattackלִפְגֹ֖עַlif.Go.a'H6293the priestsבְּכֹהֲנֵ֥יbe.kho.ha.NeiH3548of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.
18Then the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Doegלְדוֹאֵ֔גle.do.yegH1673, “You, turnסֹ֣בsoH5437aroundH5437andattackוּפְגַ֖עu.fe.Ga'H6293the priestsבַּכֹּהֲנִ֑יםba.ko.ha.NimH3548!”And Doegדּוֹאֵ֣גdo.yegH1673the Edomiteהָאֲדֹמִ֗יha.'a.do.MiH130turnedוַיִּסֹּ֞בvai.yi.SoH5437aroundH5437andattackedוַיִּפְגַּע־vai.yif.ga'-H6293the priestsבַּכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔יםba.Ko.ha.NimH3548, andhe killedוַיָּ֣מֶת׀vai.Ya.metH4191on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117eighty-fiveשְׁמֹנִ֤יםshe.mo.NimH8084menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376who woreנֹשֵׂ֖אno.Se'H5375the linenבָּֽד׃BadH906ephodאֵפ֥וֹד'e.FodH646.
19He also struckהִכָּ֣הhi.KahH5221Nobנֹ֤בnoH5011the cityעִיר־'ir-H5892of the priestsהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ha.ko.ha.NimH3548with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחֶ֔רֶבChe.revH2719,bothH4480menמֵאִישׁ֙me.'IshH376and womenאִשָּׁ֔ה'i.ShahH802,childrenמֵעוֹלֵ֖לme.'o.LelH5768and infantsיוֹנֵ֑קyo.NekH3243; he also struckoxenוְשׁ֧וֹרve.ShorH7794,donkeysוַחֲמ֛וֹרva.cha.MorH2543,and sheepוָשֶׂ֖הva.SehH7716with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.

22Then Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Abiatharלְאֶבְיָתָ֗רle.'ev.ya.TarH54, “I knewיָדַ֜עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045on that dayבַּיּ֤וֹםbai.YomH3117,whenH3588Doegדּוֹאֵ֣גdo.yegH1673the Edomiteהָאֲדֹמִ֔יha.'a.do.MiH130was thereשָׁם֙shamH8033,that he would certainlyהַגֵּ֥דha.GedH5046tellיַגִּ֖ידya.GidH5046Saulלְשָׁא֑וּלle.sha.'UlH7586.I myselfאָנֹכִ֣י'a.no.KhiH595have turnedסַבֹּ֔תִיsa.Bo.tiH5437against everyבְּכָל־be.kholH3605personנֶ֖פֶשׁNe.feshH5315in your father’sאָבִֽיךָ׃'a.Vi.khaH1householdבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.
