Joshua 4

1And it came to passH5674, when all the nationH1471 were clean passedH5674 over the JordanH3383, that Jehovah spake unto JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, 2TakeH3947 you twelve menH376 out of the peopleH5971, out of every tribeH7626 a manH376, 3and commandH6680 ye them, sayingH559, TakeH5375 you hence out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, out of the placeH4411 whereH834 the priests’H3548 feetH7272 stood firm, twelve stonesH68, and carryH5375 them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, whereH834 ye shall lodge this nightH3915. 4Then JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 the twelve menH376, whom he had preparedH3559 of the children of IsraelH3478, out of every tribeH7626 a manH376: 5and JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto them, PassH5674 over before the arkH727 of Jehovah your GodH430 into the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, and takeH7311 you up every manH376 of you a stoneH68 upon his shoulderH7926, according unto the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the children of IsraelH3478; 6that this may beH1961 a signH226 among you, that, when your children askH7592 in timeH4279 to come, sayingH559, What mean ye by these stonesH68? 7then ye shall sayH559 unto them, Because the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 were cutH3772 off before the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah; when it passedH5674 over the JordanH3383, the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 were cutH3772 off: and these stonesH68 shall beH1961 for a memorialH2146 unto the children of IsraelH3478 for everH5769.

8And the children of IsraelH3478 did soH3651 as JoshuaH3091 commandedH6680, and tookH5375 up twelve stonesH68 out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, as Jehovah spake unto JoshuaH3091, according to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the children of IsraelH3478; and they carriedH5375 them over with them unto the placeH4411 whereH834 they lodged, and laid them down there. 9And JoshuaH3091 setH6965 up twelve stonesH68 in the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, in the placeH8478 where the feetH7272 of the priestsH3548 that bare the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 stoodH6965: and they are there unto this dayH3117. 10For the priestsH3548 that bare the arkH727 stoodH5975 in the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, until everythingH3605 was finishedH8552 that Jehovah commandedH6680 JoshuaH3091 to speakH1696 unto the peopleH5971, according to all that MosesH4872 commandedH6680 JoshuaH3091: and the peopleH5971 hasted and passedH5674 over. 11And it came to passH5674, when all the peopleH5971 were clean passedH5674 over, that the arkH727 of Jehovah passedH5674 over, and the priestsH3548, in the presenceH6440 of the peopleH5971. 12And the children of ReubenH7205, and the children of GadH1410, and the half-tribe of ManassehH4519, passedH5674 over armed before the children of IsraelH3478, as MosesH4872 spake unto them: 13about fortyH705 thousandH505 ready armedH2502 for warH4421 passedH5674 over before Jehovah unto battleH4421, to the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405. 14On that dayH3117 Jehovah magnifiedH1431 JoshuaH3091 in the sight of all IsraelH3478; and they fearedH3372 him, as they fearedH3372 MosesH4872, all the daysH3117 of his life.

15And Jehovah spake unto JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, 16CommandH6680 the priestsH3548 that bearH5375 the arkH727 of the testimonyH5715, that they comeH5927 up out of the JordanH3383. 17JoshuaH3091 therefore commandedH6680 the priestsH3548, sayingH559, ComeH5927 ye up out of the JordanH3383. 18And it came to pass, when the priestsH3548 that bare the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah wereH1961 come up out of the midstH8432 of the JordanH3383, and the solesH3709 of the priests’H3548 feetH7272 wereH1961 liftedH5375 up unto the dryH2724 groundH2724, that the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 returnedH7725 unto their placeH4725, and wentH5927 over all its banksH1415, as aforetime.

19And the peopleH5971 cameH5927 up out of the JordanH3383 on the tenth day of the firstH7223 monthH2320, and encampedH2583 in GilgalH1537, on the eastH4217 borderH7097 of JerichoH3405. 20And those twelve stonesH68, which they tookH3947 out of the JordanH3383, did JoshuaH3091 setH6965 up in GilgalH1537. 21And he spake unto the children of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, WhenH834 your children shall askH7592 their fathersH1 in timeH4279 to come, sayingH559, What mean these stonesH68? 22then ye shall let your children knowH3045, sayingH559, IsraelH3478 came over this JordanH3383 on dryH3004 landH3004. 23For Jehovah your GodH430 driedH3001 up the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 from before you, until ye were passedH5674 over, as Jehovah your GodH430 did to the Red SeaH3220, which he driedH3001 up from before us, until we were passedH5674 over; 24that all the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 the handH3027 of Jehovah, that it is mightyH2389; that ye may fearH3372 Jehovah your GodH430 for ever.
