Revised Version 1895
1Then JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 the ReubenitesH7206, and the GaditesH1425, and the halfH2677 tribeH4294 of ManassehH4519, 2and saidH559 unto them, Ye have keptH8104 allH3605 that MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 youH859, and have hearkened unto my voiceH6963 in allH3605 that I commandedH6680 youH859: 3ye have notH3808 leftH5800 your brethrenH251 theseH2088 manyH7227 daysH3117 unto this dayH3117, but have keptH8104 the chargeH4931 of the commandmentH4687 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430. 4And nowH6258 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath givenH5414 restH5117 unto your brethrenH251, as he spake unto them: therefore nowH6258 turnH6437 ye, and get youH834 unto your tentsH168, unto the landH776 of your possessionH272, whichH834 MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068 gaveH5414 youH834 beyondH5676 JordanH3383. 5OnlyH7535 takeH8104 diligentH3966 heedH8104 to doH6213 the commandmentH4687 and the lawH8451, whichH834 MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 youH834, to loveH157 the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and to walkH1870 in allH3605 his waysH1870, and to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687, and to cleave unto him, and to serveH5647 him with allH3605 your heartH3824 and with allH3605 your soulH5315. 6SoH7971 JoshuaH3091 blessedH1288 them, and sentH7971 them awayH7971: and they wentH413 unto their tentsH168. 7NowH1571 to the one halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 MosesH4872 had givenH5414 inheritance in BashanH1316: but unto the otherH251 halfH2677 gaveH5414 JoshuaH3091 among their brethrenH251 beyondH5676 JordanH3383 westwardH3220. MoreoverH1571 when JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 them awayH7971 unto their tentsH168, he blessedH1288 them, 8and spake unto them, sayingH559, ReturnH7725 with muchH7235 wealthH5233 unto your tentsH168, and with veryH3966 muchH7235 cattleH4735, with silverH3701, and with goldH2091, and with brassH5178, and with ironH1270, and with veryH3966 muchH7235 raiment: divideH2505 the spoilH7998 of your enemiesH341 with your brethrenH251. 9And the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 returnedH7725, and departed from the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 outH5921 of ShilohH7887, whichH834 is in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, to goH7725 unto the landH776 of GileadH1568, to the landH776 of their possessionH272, whereof they were possessedH270, accordingH5921 to the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068 by the handH3027 of MosesH4872. 10And when they cameH935 unto the regionH1552 aboutH5921 JordanH3383, that is in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 by JordanH3383, a greatH1419 altarH4196 to seeH4758 to. 11And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 sayH559, BeholdH2009, the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 have builtH1129 an altarH4196 in the forefront of the landH776 of CanaanH3667, in the regionH1552 aboutH413 JordanH3383, on the sideH5676 that pertaineth to the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. 12And when the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 of it, the wholeH3605 congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6950 themselvesH5921 togetherH5921 at ShilohH7887, to goH5927 upH5927 againstH5921 them to warH6635. 13And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 unto the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205, and to the childrenH1121 of GadH1410, and to the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519, intoH413 the landH776 of GileadH1568, PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548; 14and with him tenH6235 princesH5387, one princeH5387 of a fathers’H1 houseH1004 for eachH376 of the tribesH4294 of IsraelH3478; and they were everyH3605 one of them headH7218 of their fathers’H1 housesH1004 among the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478. 15And they cameH935 unto the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205, and to the childrenH1121 of GadH1410, and to the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519, unto the landH776 of GileadH1568, and they spake with them, sayingH559, 16ThusH3541 saith the wholeH3605 congregationH5712 of the LORDH3068, WhatH4100 trespassH4604 is this that ye have committedH4603 againstH4775 the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to turnH7725 awayH7725 this dayH3117 from followingH310 the LORDH3068, in that ye have builded youH834 an altarH4196, to rebelH4775 this dayH3117 againstH4775 the LORDH3068? 17Is the iniquityH5771 of PeorH6465 tooH4480 littleH4592 for usH3117, from whichH834 weH834 have notH3808 cleansedH2891 ourselvesH4480 unto this dayH3117, althoughH3808 there cameH1961 a plagueH5063 uponH1961 the congregationH5712 of the LORDH3068, 18that ye must turnH7725 awayH7725 this dayH3117 from followingH310 the LORDH3068? and it will be, seeing ye rebelH4775 todayH3117 againstH413 the LORDH3068, that tomorrowH4279 he will be wroth with the wholeH3605 congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478. 19Howbeit, ifH518 the landH776 of your possessionH272 be uncleanH2931, then passH5674 ye over unto the landH776 of the possessionH272 of the LORDH3068, whereinH834 the LORD’SH3068 tabernacleH4908 dwelleth, and takeH270 possessionH272 among usH413: but rebelH4775 notH408 againstH413 the LORDH3068, norH408 rebelH4775 againstH413 usH413, in buildingH1129 youH834 an altarH4196 besidesH1107 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430. 20DidH3808 notH3808 AchanH5912 the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226 commit a trespassH4604 in the devotedH2764 thingH259, and wrathH7110 fellH5921 uponH5921 allH3605 the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478? and that manH376 perishedH1478 notH3808 aloneH259 in his iniquityH5771. 21Then the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 and the halfH2677 tribeH7626 of ManassehH4519 answeredH6030, and spake unto the headsH7218 of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478, 22The LORDH3068, the GodH430 of godsH430, the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of godsH430, he knoweth, and IsraelH3478 he shall knowH3045; ifH518 it be in rebellionH4777, or ifH518 in trespassH4604 againstH4604 the LORDH3068, (saveH3467 thou usH3045 notH408 this dayH3117,) 23that weH518 have builtH1129 usH5921 an altarH4196 to turnH7725 awayH7725 from followingH310 the LORDH3068; or ifH518 to offerH5927 thereonH5921 burntH5930 offering or mealH4503 offering, or ifH518 to offerH5927 sacrificesH2077 of peaceH8002 offeringsH8002 thereonH5921, let the LORDH3068 himselfH1931 requireH1245 it; 24and ifH518 weH518 have notH3808 ratherH3808 outH4100 of carefulness doneH6213 this, and of purposeH1697, sayingH559, In time to comeH4279 your childrenH1121 might speakH559 unto our childrenH1121, sayingH559, WhatH4100 have ye to doH6213 with the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478? 25for the LORDH3068 hath madeH5414 JordanH3383 a borderH1366 betweenH996 usH5414 and youH5414, ye childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and childrenH1121 of GadH1410; ye have noH369 portionH2506 in the LORDH3068: soH5414 shall your childrenH1121 makeH5414 our childrenH1121 ceaseH369 from fearing the LORDH3068. 26Therefore weH4994 saidH559, LetH4994 as nowH4994 prepareH6213 to buildH1129 usH4994 an altarH4196, notH3808 for burntH5930 offering, norH3808 for sacrificeH2077: 27but it shall be a witnessH5707 betweenH996 usH3588 and youH3588, and betweenH996 our generationsH1755 afterH310 usH3588, that weH3588 may doH5647 the serviceH5656 of the LORDH3068 beforeH6440 him with our burntH5930 offeringsH8002, and with our sacrificesH2077, and with our peaceH8002 offeringsH8002; that your childrenH1121 may notH3808 sayH559 to our childrenH1121 in time to comeH4279, Ye have noH3808 portionH2506 in the LORDH3068. 28Therefore saidH559 weH3588, It shall be, when they soH6213 sayH559 to usH413 or to our generationsH1755 in time to comeH1961, that weH3588 shall sayH559, BeholdH7200 the patternH8403 of the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068, whichH834 our fathersH1 madeH6213, notH3808 for burntH5930 offering, norH3808 for sacrificeH2077; but it is a witnessH5707 betweenH996 usH413 and youH834. 29GodH430 forbidH2486 that weH834 should rebelH4775 againstH4480 the LORDH3068, and turnH7725 awayH7725 this dayH3117 from followingH310 the LORDH3068, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 for burntH5930 offering, for mealH4503 offering, or for sacrificeH2077, besidesH905 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430 that is beforeH6440 his tabernacleH4908. 30And when PhinehasH6372 the priestH3548, and the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712, evenH853 the headsH7218 of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478 whichH834 were with him, heardH8085 the wordsH1697 that the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 and the childrenH1121 of ManassehH4519 spake, it pleasedH3190 them wellH3190. 31And PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548 saidH559 unto the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205, and to the childrenH1121 of GadH1410, and to the childrenH1121 of ManassehH4519, This dayH3117 weH3588 knowH3045 that the LORDH3068 is in the midstH8432 of usH413, becauseH3588 ye have notH3808 committedH4603 this trespassH4604 againstH413 the LORDH3068: nowH3117 have ye deliveredH5337 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 outH3045 of the handH3027 of the LORDH3068. 32And PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and the princesH5387, returnedH7725 from the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205, and from the childrenH1121 of GadH1410, outH413 of the landH776 of GileadH1568, unto the landH776 of CanaanH3667, to the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and broughtH7725 them wordH1697 againH7725. 33And the thingH1697 pleasedH3190 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478; and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 blessedH1288 GodH430, and spake noH3808 moreH3808 of goingH5927 upH5927 againstH5921 them to warH6635, to destroyH7843 the landH776 whereinH834 the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 dweltH3427. 34And the childrenH1121 of ReubenH7205 and the childrenH1121 of GadH1410 calledH7121 the altarH4196 Ed: For, said they, it is a witnessH5707 betweenH996 usH3588 that the LORDH3068 is GodH430.
