2 Samuel 16
Darby Bible
1And when DavidH1732 was a littleH4592 past the summit, behold, ZibaH6717, Mephibosheth's servantH5288, metH7122 him, with a couple of asses saddledH2280, and upon them two hundredH3967 [loaves] of breadH3899, and a hundredH3967 raisin-cakes, and a hundredH3967 cakes of summerH7019 fruits, and a flask of wineH3196. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZibaH6717, What meanest thou by these? And ZibaH6717 saidH559, The asses are for the king's householdH1004 to rideH7392 on; and the breadH3899 and summerH7019 fruits for the youngH5288 menH5288 to eatH398; and the wineH3196, that such as are faint in the wildernessH4057 may drinkH8354. 3And the kingH4428 saidH559, And whereH346 is thy master's sonH1121? And ZibaH6717 saidH559 to the kingH4428, Behold, he abides at JerusalemH3389; for he saidH559, To-day shall the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 restoreH7725 me the kingdomH4468 of my fatherH1. 4And the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZibaH6717, Behold, thine are all that pertained to MephiboshethH4648. And ZibaH6717 saidH559, I humbly bowH7812 myself: may I findH4672 favour in thy sight, my lordH113, O kingH4428. 5And when kingH4428 DavidH1732 cameH935 to BahurimH980, behold, there cameH935 out from thence a manH376 of the familyH4940 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, whose nameH8034 was ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of GeraH1617: he cameH935 forthH3318, and cursedH7043, 6and cast stonesH68 at DavidH1732, and at all the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 DavidH1732; and all the peopleH5971 and all the mightyH1368 menH1368 were on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his left. 7And thusH3541 saidH559 ShimeiH8096 as he cursedH7043: Away, away, thou manH376 of bloodH1818 and manH376 of Belial! 8Jehovah has returnedH7725 upon thee all the bloodH1818 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, in whose stead thou hast reignedH4427; and Jehovah has givenH5414 the kingdom into the handH3027 of AbsalomH53 thy sonH1121; and behold, thou art [taken] in thine own evilH7451, for thou art a manH376 of bloodH1818. 9And AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 saidH559 to the kingH4428, WhyH4100 should this deadH4191 dogH3611 curseH7043 my lordH113 the kingH4428? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his headH7218. 10And the kingH4428 saidH559, What have I to do with you, ye sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870? soH3651 let him curseH7043, for Jehovah has saidH559 to him, CurseH7043 DavidH1732! Who shall then sayH559, WhyH4100 dost thou soH3651? 11And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbishaiH52, and to all his servantsH5650, Behold, my sonH1121, who cameH3318 forthH3318 of my bowelsH4578, seeksH1245 my lifeH5315: how much more nowH6258 a Benjaminite? let him alone and let him curseH7043; for Jehovah has bidden him. 12It may be that Jehovah will lookH7200 on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me goodH2896 for my being cursed this dayH3117. 13And DavidH1732 and his menH376 wentH1980 by the wayH1870; and ShimeiH8096 wentH1980 along on the hill's sideH6763 over against him, and cursedH7043 as he wentH1980, and threw stonesH68 at him, and cast dustH6083. 14And the kingH4428, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, cameH935 wearyH5889, and refreshedH5314 themselves there. 15Now AbsalomH53, and all the peopleH5971, the menH376 of IsraelH3478, cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, and AhithophelH302 with him. 16And it cameH935 to pass, when HushaiH2365 the Archite, David's friendH7463, cameH935 to AbsalomH53, that HushaiH2365 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, Long liveH2421 the kingH4428! Long liveH2421 the kingH4428! 17And AbsalomH53 saidH559 to HushaiH2365, Is this thy kindness to thy friendH7453? whyH4100 didst thou not goH1980 with thy friendH7453? 18And HushaiH2365 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, No; but whom Jehovah, and this peopleH5971, and all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 chooseH977, his will I beH1961, and with him will I abide. 19And again, whom should I serveH5647? should it not beH1961 in the presenceH6440 of his sonH1121? as I have servedH5647 in thy father's presenceH6440, soH3651 will I beH1961 in thy presenceH6440. 20And AbsalomH53 saidH559 to AhithophelH302, GiveH3051 counselH6098 among you what we shall do. 21And AhithophelH302 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, GoH935 in to thy father's concubinesH6370, whom he has left to keepH8104 the houseH1004; and all IsraelH3478 shall hearH8085 that thou art becomeH887 odiousH887 with thy fatherH1; and the handsH3027 of all that are with thee shall be strongH2388. 22So they spreadH5186 a tentH168 for AbsalomH53 upon the roofH1406; and AbsalomH53 wentH935 in to his father's concubinesH6370 in the sight of all IsraelH3478. 23And the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302, which he counselled in those daysH3117, was as if a man had inquired of the wordH1697 of 1GodH430: soH3651 was all the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302 both with DavidH1732 and with AbsalomH53.
