2 Samuel 12
Darby Bible
1And Jehovah sentH7971 NathanH5416 to DavidH1732. And he cameH935 to him, and saidH559 to him, There wereH1961 twoH8147 menH376 in oneH259 cityH5892; the oneH259 richH6223, and the other poorH7326. 2The richH6223 had veryH3966 manyH7235 flocksH6629 and herdsH1241; 3but the poorH7326 man had nothingH369 at all, but oneH259 littleH6996 ewe lamb which he had boughtH7069, and was nourishing; and it grewH1431 up with him, and togetherH3162 with his children: it ateH398 of his morselH6595, and drankH8354 of his own cupH3563, and slept in his bosomH2436, and was to him as a daughterH1323. 4And there cameH935 a traveller to the richH6223 manH376, and he sparedH2550 to takeH3947 of his own flockH6629 and of his own herdH1241, to dress for the wayfaring manH376 that had comeH935 to him; and he tookH3947 the poorH7326 man's lamb, and dressed it for the manH376 that had comeH935 to him. 5Then David's angerH639 was greatly kindled against the manH376; and he saidH559 to NathanH5416, As Jehovah liveth, the manH376 that hath done this thing is worthy of deathH4194; 6and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thingH1697, and because he had no pityH2550. 7And NathanH5416 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Thou art the manH376! ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478: I anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and I deliveredH5337 thee out of the handH3027 of SaulH7586; 8and I gaveH5414 thee thy master's houseH1004, and thy master's wivesH802 into thy bosomH2436, and gaveH5414 thee the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063; and if [that] had been too littleH4592, I would moreover have givenH5414 unto thee such and such things. 9Wherefore hast thou despisedH959 the wordH1697 of Jehovah to do evilH7451 in his sight? thou hast smitten Urijah the HittiteH2850 with the swordH2719, and hast takenH3947 his wifeH802 to be thy wifeH802, and hast slainH2026 him with the swordH2719 of the children of AmmonH5983. 10NowH6258 thereforeH6258 the swordH2719 shall never departH5493 from thy houseH1004; because thou hast despisedH959 me, and hast takenH3947 the wifeH802 of Urijah the HittiteH2850 to beH1961 thy wifeH802. 11ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raiseH6965 up evilH7451 against thee out of thine ownH5869 houseH1004, and I will takeH3947 thy wivesH802 before thine eyesH5869, and giveH5414 them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lieH7901 with thy wivesH802 in the sight of this sunH8121. 12For thou didst [it] secretly; but I will do this thingH1697 before all IsraelH3478 and before the sunH8121. 13And DavidH1732 saidH559 to NathanH5416, I have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah. And NathanH5416 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Jehovah has alsoH1571 putH4191 awayH5674 thy sinH2398: thou shalt not dieH4191. 14Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemiesH341 of Jehovah to blaspheme, even the child that is born to thee shall certainly dieH4191. 15And NathanH5416 departed to his houseH1004. And Jehovah smote the childH3206 that Urijah's wifeH802 boreH3205 to DavidH1732, and it became very sick. 16And DavidH1732 besought 2GodH430 for the child; and DavidH1732 fastedH6684, and wentH935 in, and layH7901 all night on the earthH776. 17And the eldersH2205 of his houseH1004 aroseH6965, [and went] to him, to raiseH6965 him up from the earthH776; but he wouldH14 not, and he ate no breadH3899 with them. 18And it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that the childH3206 diedH4191. And the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732 fearedH3372 to tellH5046 him that the childH3206 wasH1961 deadH4191; for they saidH559, Behold, while the childH3206 wasH1961 yet aliveH2416, we spokeH1696 to him, and he would not hearken to our voiceH6963; and howH349 shall we sayH559 to him, The childH3206 is deadH4191? he may do some harmH7451. 19But DavidH1732 sawH7200 that his servantsH5650 whispered, and DavidH1732 perceived that the childH3206 was deadH4191; and DavidH1732 saidH559 to his servantsH5650, Is the childH3206 deadH4191? And they saidH559, He is deadH4191. 20Then DavidH1732 aroseH6965 from the earthH776, and washedH7364, and anointed himself, and changedH2498 his clothingH8071, and entered into the houseH1004 of Jehovah and worshipped; then he cameH935 to his own houseH1004 and required them to setH7760 breadH3899 before him, and he ateH398. 21And his servantsH5650 saidH559 to him, What thingH1697 is this which thou hast done? thou didst fastH6684 and weepH1058 for the childH3206 aliveH2416; but as soon as the childH3206 is deadH4191, thou dost riseH6965 and eatH398 breadH3899. 22And he saidH559, While the childH3206 was yetH5750 aliveH2416, I fastedH6684 and weptH1058; for I thought, Who knowsH3045? [perhaps] Jehovah will be gracious to me, that the childH3206 may live. 23But nowH6258 he is deadH4191, whyH4100 should I fastH6684? can I bringH7725 him backH7725 againH5750? I shall goH1980 to him, but he will not returnH7725 to me. 24And DavidH1732 comfortedH5162 Bathsheba his wifeH802, and wentH935 in to her and layH7901 with her; and she boreH3205 a sonH1121, and he calledH7121 his nameH8034 SolomonH8010; and Jehovah lovedH157 him. 25And he sentH7971 by the handH3027 of NathanH5416 the prophetH5030; and he calledH7121 his nameH8034 Jedidiah, for Jehovah's sakeH5668. 26And JoabH3097 foughtH3898 against RabbahH7237 of the children of AmmonH5983, and tookH3920 the royal cityH5892. 27And JoabH3097 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and saidH559, I have foughtH3898 against RabbahH7237, and have takenH3920 the cityH5892 of watersH4325. 28And nowH6258 gatherH622 the restH3499 of the peopleH5971, and encampH2583 against the cityH5892 and take it: lestH6435 I take the cityH5892 and it be calledH7121 by my nameH8034. 29And DavidH1732 gatheredH622 all the peopleH5971, and went to RabbahH7237, and foughtH3898 against it and tookH3920 it. 30And he tookH3947 the crownH5850 of their kingH4428 from off his headH7218, the weightH4948 of which wasH1961 a talentH3603 of goldH2091 with [the] preciousH3368 stonesH68; and it wasH1961 [set] on David's headH7218; and he broughtH3318 forthH3318 the spoilH7998 of the cityH5892 in great abundanceH7235. 31And he broughtH3318 out the peopleH5971 that were in it, and putH7760 them under the saw, and under harrows of ironH1270, and under axes of ironH1270, and madeH6213 them passH5674 through the brickkilns. And soH3651 did he to all the citiesH5892 of the children of AmmonH5983. And DavidH1732 and all the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389.
