2 Samuel 16

1And when DavidH1732 was a littleH4592 past the topH7218 of the ascent, behold, ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of MephiboshethH4648 metH7122 him, with a couple of asses saddledH2280, and upon them two hundredH3967 loaves of breadH3899, and a hundredH3967 clusters of raisinsH6778, and a hundredH3967 of summerH7019 fruits, and a bottle of wineH3196. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto ZibaH6717, What meanest thou by these? And ZibaH6717 saidH559, The asses are for the king’sH4428 householdH1004 to rideH7392 on; and the breadH3899 and summerH7019 fruit for the youngH5288 menH5288 to eatH398; and the wineH3196, that such as are faint in the wildernessH4057 may drinkH8354. 3And the kingH4428 saidH559, And whereH346 is thy master’sH113 sonH1121? And ZibaH6717 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, Behold, he abideth at JerusalemH3389; for he saidH559, To-day will the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 restoreH7725 me the kingdomH4468 of my fatherH1. 4Then saidH559 the kingH4428 to ZibaH6717, Behold, thine is all that pertaineth unto MephiboshethH4648. And ZibaH6717 saidH559, I do obeisance; let me findH4672 favorH2580 in thy sight, my lordH113, O kingH4428.

5And when kingH4428 DavidH1732 cameH935 to BahurimH980, behold, there cameH935 out thence a manH376 of the familyH4940 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, whose nameH8034 was ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of GeraH1617; he cameH935 out, and cursedH7043 still as he cameH935. 6And he cast stonesH68 at DavidH1732, and at all the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 DavidH1732: and all the peopleH5971 and all the mightyH1368 menH1368 were on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his left. 7And thusH3541 saidH559 ShimeiH8096 when he cursedH7043, Begone, begone, thou manH376 of bloodH1818, and base fellow: 8Jehovah hath returnedH7725 upon thee all the bloodH1818 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, in whose stead thou hast reignedH4427; and Jehovah hath delivered the kingdom into the handH3027 of AbsalomH53 thy sonH1121; and, behold, thou art taken in thine own mischief, because thou art a manH376 of bloodH1818.

9Then saidH559 AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 unto the kingH4428, WhyH4100 should this deadH4191 dogH3611 curseH7043 my lordH113 the kingH4428? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his headH7218. 10And the kingH4428 saidH559, What have I to do with you, ye sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870? Because he curseth, and because Jehovah hath saidH559 unto him, CurseH7043 DavidH1732; who then shall sayH559, Wherefore hast thou done soH3651? 11And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbishaiH52, and to all his servantsH5650, Behold, my sonH1121, who cameH3318 forthH3318 from my bowelsH4578, seeketh my lifeH5315: how much more may this Benjamite nowH6258 do it? let him alone, and let him curseH7043; for Jehovah hath bidden him. 12It may be that Jehovah will lookH7200 on the wrong done unto me, and that Jehovah will requite me goodH2896 for his cursingH7045 of me this dayH3117. 13So DavidH1732 and his menH376 wentH1980 by the wayH1870; and ShimeiH8096 wentH1980 along on the hill-side over against him, and cursedH7043 as he wentH1980, and threw stonesH68 at him, and cast dustH6083. 14And the kingH4428, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, cameH935 wearyH5889; and he refreshedH5314 himself there.

15And AbsalomH53, and all the peopleH5971, the menH376 of IsraelH3478, cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, and AhithophelH302 with him. 16And it cameH935 to pass, when HushaiH2365 the Archite, David’s friendH7463, wasH1961 comeH935 unto AbsalomH53, that HushaiH2365 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, Long liveH2421 the kingH4428, Long liveH2421 the kingH4428. 17And AbsalomH53 saidH559 to HushaiH2365, Is this thy kindness to thy friendH7453? whyH4100 wentest thou not with thy friendH7453? 18And HushaiH2365 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, Nay; but whom Jehovah, and this peopleH5971, and all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 have chosenH977, his will I beH1961, and with him will I abide. 19And again, whom should I serveH5647? should I not serveH5647 in the presenceH6440 of his sonH1121? as I have servedH5647 in thy father’sH1 presenceH6440, soH3651 will I beH1961 in thy presenceH6440.

20Then saidH559 AbsalomH53 to AhithophelH302, GiveH3051 your counselH6098 what we shall do. 21And AhithophelH302 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, GoH935 in unto thy father’sH1 concubinesH6370, that he hath left to keepH8104 the houseH1004; and all IsraelH3478 will hearH8085 that thou art abhorred of thy fatherH1: then will the handsH3027 of all that are with thee be strongH2388. 22So they spreadH5186 AbsalomH53 a tentH168 upon the topH1406 of the house; and AbsalomH53 wentH935 in unto his father’sH1 concubinesH6370 in the sight of all IsraelH3478. 23And the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302, which he gave in those daysH3117, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of GodH430: soH3651 was all the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302 both with DavidH1732 and with AbsalomH53.
