2 Samuel 5

Darby Bible

1Then cameH935 all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to DavidH1732 to HebronH2275, and spoke, sayingH559, Behold, we are thy boneH6106 and thy fleshH1320. 2Even aforetime, when SaulH7586 wasH1961 kingH4428 over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in IsraelH3478; and Jehovah saidH559 to thee, Thou shalt feedH7462 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt beH1961 princeH5057 over IsraelH3478. 3And all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and kingH4428 DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them in HebronH2275 before Jehovah; and they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 4DavidH1732 was thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141. 5In HebronH2275 he reignedH4427 over JudahH3063 sevenH7651 yearsH8141 and sixH8337 monthsH2320; and in JerusalemH3389 he reignedH4427 thirty-three yearsH8141 over all IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 6And the kingH4428 and his menH376 wentH935 to JerusalemH3389 against the Jebusites, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776; and they spoke to DavidH1732, sayingH559, Thou shalt not comeH935 in hither, but the blindH5787 and the lame will drive thee back; as much as to sayH559, DavidH1732 will not comeH935 in hither. 7But DavidH1732 tookH3920 the stronghold of ZionH6726, which is the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 saidH559 on that dayH3117, Whoever smites the Jebusites and gets up to the watercourse, and the lameH6455 and the blindH5787 hatedH8130 of David's soulH5315...! ThereforeH3651 they sayH559, The blindH5787 and the lameH6455 shall not comeH935 into the houseH1004. 9So DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the stronghold, and calledH7121 it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 builtH1129 roundH5439 about from the MilloH4407 and inward. 10And DavidH1732 became continually greaterH1419; and Jehovah the 1GodH430 of hostsH6635 was with him. 11And HiramH2438 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and timber of cedarsH730, and carpenters, and masons; and they builtH1129 DavidH1732 a houseH1004. 12And DavidH1732 perceived that Jehovah had establishedH3559 him kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and that he had exalted his kingdomH4467 because of his peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 13And DavidH1732 tookH3947 him more concubinesH6370 and wivesH802 out of JerusalemH3389, after he had comeH935 from HebronH2275; and there were yetH5750 sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 bornH3205 to DavidH1732. 14And these are the namesH8034 of those that were born to him in JerusalemH3389: ShammuaH8051, and ShobabH7727, and NathanH5416, and SolomonH8010, 15and IbharH2984, and ElishuaH474, and NephegH5298, and JaphiaH3309, 16and ElishamaH476, and EliadaH450, and ElipheletH467. 17And the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that they had anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and all the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 up to seekH1245 DavidH1732; and DavidH1732 heardH8085 [of it], and wentH5927 downH3381 to the stronghold. 18And the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935 and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 19And DavidH1732 inquired of Jehovah, sayingH559, Shall I goH5927 up against the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou giveH5414 them into my handH3027? And Jehovah saidH559 to DavidH1732, GoH5927 up; for I will certainly giveH5414 the PhilistinesH6430 into thy handH3027. 20And DavidH1732 cameH935 to Baal-perazimH1188, and DavidH1732 smote them there; and he saidH559, Jehovah has brokenH6555 in upon mine enemiesH341 before me, as the breakingH6555 forth of watersH4325. ThereforeH3651 he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 Baal-perazimH1188. 21And they leftH5800 their images there, and DavidH1732 and his menH376 tookH5375 them awayH5375. 22And the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 up yetH5750 againH5750, and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 23And DavidH1732 inquired of Jehovah; and he saidH559, Thou shalt not goH935 up; turnH5437 roundH5437 behind them and comeH935 upon them oppositeH4136 the mulberry-trees. 24And it shall beH1961, when thou hearest a soundH6963 of marching in the topsH7218 of the mulberry-trees, that thenH227 thou shalt bestir thyself; for thenH227 will Jehovah have goneH3318 forthH3318 before thee, to smite the armyH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430. 25And DavidH1732 did soH3651, as Jehovah had commandedH6680 him; and smote the PhilistinesH6430 from GebaH1387 until thou comest to GezerH1507.
