2 Samuel 16
Revised Version 1895
1And when DavidH1732 was a littleH4592 past the topH7218 of the ascent, beholdH2009, ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of MephiboshethH4648 metH7122 him, with a coupleH6776 of asses saddledH2280, and uponH5921 them twoH6776 hundredH3967 loavesH3899 of breadH3899, and an hundredH3967 clustersH6778 of raisinsH6778, and an hundredH3967 of summerH7019 fruits, and a bottle of wineH3196. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto ZibaH6717, WhatH4100 meanest thou by theseH428? And ZibaH6717 saidH559, The asses be for the king’sH4428 householdH1004 to rideH7392 on; and the breadH3899 and summerH7019 fruitH3899 for the youngH5288 menH5288 to eatH398; and the wineH3196, that suchH428 as be faintH3287 in the wildernessH4057 may drinkH8354. 3And the kingH4428 saidH559, And whereH346 is thy master’sH113 sonH1121? And ZibaH6717 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, BeholdH2009, he abideth at JerusalemH3389: for he saidH559, TodayH3117 shall the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 restoreH7725 meH413 the kingdomH4468 of my fatherH1. 4Then saidH559 the kingH4428 to ZibaH6717, BeholdH2009, thine is allH3605 that pertaineth unto MephiboshethH4648. And ZibaH6717 saidH559, I doH3605 obeisance; let meH4672 findH4672 favour in thy sightH5869, my lordH113, O kingH4428. 5And when kingH4428 DavidH1732 cameH935 to BahurimH980, beholdH2009, there cameH935 outH3318 thence a manH376 of the familyH4940 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, whoseH1121 nameH8034 was ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of GeraH1617: he cameH935 outH3318, and cursedH7043 stillH5704 as he cameH935. 6And he castH5619 stonesH68 at DavidH1732, and at allH3605 the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 DavidH1732: and allH3605 the peopleH5971 and allH3605 the mightyH1368 menH1368 were on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his leftH8040. 7And thusH3541 saidH559 ShimeiH8096 when he cursedH7043, Begone, begone, thou manH376 of bloodH1818, and manH376 of Belial: 8The LORDH3068 hath returnedH7725 uponH5921 thee allH3605 the bloodH1818 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, in whoseH834 steadH8478 thou hast reignedH4427; and the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414 the kingdomH4410 intoH5921 the handH3027 of AbsalomH53 thy sonH1121: and, beholdH2005, thou art takenH5414 in thine ownH376 mischief, becauseH3588 thou art a manH376 of bloodH1818. 9Then saidH559 AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 unto the kingH4428, WhyH4100 should this deadH4191 dogH3611 curseH7043 my lordH113 the kingH4428? letH4994 meH413 goH5674 over, I prayH4994 thee, and takeH5493 offH5493 his headH7218. 10And the kingH4428 saidH559, WhatH4100 have I to doH6213 with youH3588, ye sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870? BecauseH3588 he curseth, and becauseH3588 the LORDH3068 hath saidH559 unto him, CurseH7043 DavidH1732; who then shall sayH559, Wherefore hast thou doneH6213 soH3651? 11And DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbishaiH52, and to allH3605 his servantsH5650, BeholdH2009, my sonH1121, whichH834 cameH3318 forthH3318 of my bowelsH4578, seeketh my lifeH5315: howH834 muchH637 moreH637 may this BenjamiteH1145 nowH6258 doH637 it? letH637 him alone, and letH637 him curseH7043; for the LORDH3068 hath bidden him. 12It may be that the LORDH3068 will lookH7200 on the wrongH5771 done unto meH7725, and that the LORDH3068 will requite meH7725 goodH2896 for his cursingH7045 of meH7725 this dayH3117. 13SoH1980 DavidH1732 and his menH376 wentH1980 by the wayH1870: and ShimeiH8096 wentH1980 alongH1980 on the hillH2022 sideH6763 over againstH376 him, and cursedH7043 as he wentH1980, and threwH6080 stonesH68 at him, and castH5619 dustH6083. 14And the kingH4428, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 that were with him, cameH935 wearyH5889; and he refreshedH5314 himselfH5314 there. 15And AbsalomH53, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 the menH376 of IsraelH3478, cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, and AhithophelH302 with him. 16And it cameH935 to passH935, when HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH757, David’sH1732 friendH7463, was comeH935 unto AbsalomH53, that HushaiH2365 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, GodH559 save the kingH4428, GodH559 save the kingH4428. 17And AbsalomH53 saidH559 to HushaiH2365, Is this thy kindnessH2617 to thy friendH7453? whyH4100 wentest thou notH3808 with thy friendH7453? 18And HushaiH2365 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, Nay; but whomH834 the LORDH3068, and this peopleH5971, and allH3605 the menH376 of IsraelH3478 have chosenH977, his will I be, and with him will I abideH3427. 19And againH8145, whomH834 should I serveH5647? should I notH3808 serveH5647 in the presenceH6440 of his sonH1121? as I have servedH5647 in thy father’sH1 presenceH6440, soH3651 will I be in thy presenceH6440. 20Then saidH559 AbsalomH53 to AhithophelH302, GiveH3051 your counselH6098 whatH4100 weH6213 shall doH6213. 21And AhithophelH302 saidH559 unto AbsalomH53, GoH935 in unto thy father’sH1 concubinesH6370, whichH834 he hath leftH3240 to keepH8104 the houseH1004; and allH3605 IsraelH3478 shall hearH8085 that thou art abhorred of thy fatherH1: then shall the handsH3027 of allH3605 that are with thee be strongH2388. 22SoH935 they spreadH5186 AbsalomH53 a tentH168 uponH5921 the topH1406 of the house; and AbsalomH53 wentH935 in unto his father’sH1 concubinesH6370 in the sightH5869 of allH3605 IsraelH3478. 23And the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302, whichH834 he counselled in thoseH3605 daysH3117, was as ifH834 a manH3605 inquiredH7592 at the oracle of GodH430: soH3651 was allH3605 the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302 bothH1571 with DavidH1732 and with AbsalomH53.
